Yukio, not in her suit, as she was worried it would cause too much attention, came over and sat down. Her hood was up though, obscuring her face. Turning to Lyra, she immediately noticed the bruise as it gave off heat as it tried to heal.
"Lyra, are you alright?" She asked. Her voice was different than the previous night, as her suit had changed her voice to further hide her identity, and Yukio realized she had never given Lyra her name, or a false one. "That's a pretty nasty bruise. Wasn't there last night."
Lyra nodded, "Yeah…just walked into a wall this morning." She sat down and zoned out for a minute. She had plans to meet her brother later and lying to him was harder.
When she realized that she was just staring, she scoffed and tilted her head, "So…what exactly is the point of your powers? You know how you got them?"
"Oh, I was born with them." Yukio said, tilting her head. "Not sure why- how about you?" She asked. "How did you get your powers?"
Yukio, of course, had not noticed the makeup covering the bruise. The water in makeup was similar enough to the water in skin, she often didn't notice it unless she was actively looking.
Lyra shrugged, "Was born with them as well….something about a prophecy or something. My parents freaked and I spent 10 years of my life basically locked up. I mean….it was ok. I wasn't allowed to really leave the West Corner of the manor but my brother's came to visit me. My older brother fought with my mom everyday until she let me out. It took 10 years but…"
She narrows her eyes and sighs, "He left and then it was just me and my twin brother. It wasn't the same though."
Yukio looked up, surprised. "That sounds … Awful-"
Yukio sighed. "I'm sorry that happened to you. I'll tell you something in return, okay?"
Yukio sighed.
"My powers help me see. I'm blind, but with my powers, I can sense the moisture of things around me, giving me better sight anyway."
Lyra smiled softly and shrugged, "It's life at my house. My older brother had it worse. Then my twin……well I'm the heiress of the family now."
She listened and tilted her head as Yukio told her about their powers. Lyra hummed, "Hmm, that's weird but also very helpful. Mine is basically just fire and destruction. Haven't played around with it a lot to figure if I can do anything else. Basically I can shoot fire, control fire, and fire resistant."
Yukio nodded. "I can also control water and water temperature, sense water and water temperature, and am resistant to the cold."
Lyra nodded and tensed up when people got close. Once they left their area, she relaxed. "Interesting….hey, do you wanna go grab something to eat?"
Yukio looked up at her. "I- uh- sure!?" She responded, not expecting the question.."ah- sorry. People… Don't usually ask me if I want to do things, they just assume I do. Perks of being visibly blind- Yes, I would like to get something to eat."
Yukio was embarrassed at her awkwardness, but was pleased that Lyra had asked.
Lyra got up and smirked, "I mean you did just tell me you have better sight than me so…anyways I know a good restaurant. My brother works there."
As they walked through the town, Lyra thought about Yukio. Finally she said, "I'd appreciate it if you don't bring up my bruise if my older brother is working…"
Yukio nodded, finally noticing the makeup covering it. She covered her mouth.
"Oh my gods, I am so sorry- I didn't even notice the makeup, just the heat coming off of it." Under her hood, her face turned red, mortified.
"If I had known, I never would have mentioned it!"
Lyra nodded as they went inside, "I'm fine. Just…a book fell on me." Her story inconsistent to earlier. They took a seat and Lyra frowned, "Wait, do you need me to read the menu? Or can you somehow read it?"
She didn't know if that was offensive so when her older brother popped up, she was thankful for the distraction.
"Sirius!" Lyra got up and hugged him. Sirius laughed and swung her around. He then saw Yukio and waved, "Hey there, you her date?"
Lyra groaned and rolled her eyes, "No she's not." Sirius ruffled her hair and then frowned as he saw a hint of a bruise, "Did they –"
Lyra gave him a look and he shut up. He dragged her to the back of the restaurant to talk to her. When she came back she gave a guilty look, "Sorry about that."
Yukio smiled. "It's fine. I can read the menu if I really try, but the differences between the ink and paper are so small, it's very difficult. I.. don't usually go out for food.." She said, concentrating on the menu.
"I'm assuming that was your brother?"
Lyra nodded and stayed silent until the waiter came to get their order. She didn't like what her older brother was planning. She looked up at Yukio and examined her, "Has your family…..I mean…. what's your home life like?"
Yukio tilted her head.."My family… My father left before I was born. He has found out about my mother's powers, and hated them. He didn't even know about me. My mom died a month or two ago. My mom was kind, helped me train and control my power. But she was gone a lot. Someone had to earn money. My grandparents were going to help out, but when they found out I was blind, they went non-contact.. I never met them."
Lyra hummed and thought about it, "That sounds like a nice family." And she genuinely thought it sounded nice. Compared to what she dealt with at home, it sounded like heaven. The food arrived and once she finished eating she stared at Yukio, debating whether to tell her something or not.
Yukio ate slowly, seeming to have slight trouble with guiding the fork to her mouth. "It was, for the most part. I was expected to stay at home though, I was never allowed to go out or make friends." She finished eating soon after Lyra, looking up at her. "You alright?"
Lyra hesitated and for the first time, she seemed unconfident, "My twin brother took his own life and ever since then I've been questioning the things that go on in my family. Is it normal for your parents to lock you up for part of your life because their afraid of you? Or to torture your older brother so much he runs away? Or to hit you when you mess up?" She looks away and avoids Yuji's eyes.
Yukio looked up, surprised. "No! It's not! Lyra, you need to get out of there, that's abuse. Do you need a place to stay? My mom left her house to me, and it's got plenty of room. How can I help?" Yukio asked, reaching over to touch Lyra's hand.
(Sorry, I'm sick rn. I'll respond once I feel better.)
Lyra shook her head and finished her meal, "I'm fine. My parents would kill me if I left. They would have no heir. Besides, I think my older brother is taking care of the situation. He won't tell me what but I'm hoping his boyfriend and him take me in before I go out in the world on my own."
She smiles slightly at the thought of that.
Yukio frowned. "They can't kill you if they can't reach you. Are you certain you don't need someplace to stay?" She asked, watching Lyra.
Lyra nodded and smiled awkwardly, "I know it's weird but their still family…and I don't think I'm ready to leave them right now." She waved the waiter over and paid the bill.
Yukio nodded. "I kinda get that…" She said, setting some money for her food on the table. "But still, my place is always open if you need somewhere to go."
