Cas stood, careful still of boundaries as he moved and sat next to Nik, making sure there was still a decent amount of space between then, "If there's anything I can do to help you feel more comfortable then just let me know."
Cas stood, careful still of boundaries as he moved and sat next to Nik, making sure there was still a decent amount of space between then, "If there's anything I can do to help you feel more comfortable then just let me know."
Nik shrugged his shoulders a little bit. "I don't think…" He shook his head. "I don't know." His voice was quiet. Subdued. He ran a hand through his hair, not looking at Cas.
"Nikolai, I can't help make your stay here more comfortable if you don't let me know what, exactly you want." Cas said, scooting just a little closer.
"I. Don't. Know." Nik repeated firmly, looking down at the fire. He shook his head a little, swallowing and still trying to process all of this.
Cas sighed, "Don't know what you want or don't know what to make of the whole situation?" He asked.
"…Both." he finally replied after a moment, linking his fingers together and looking at the floor now. "But why does it matter?"
"Because even though I'm a dick and I well, kidnapped you, I still want to get to know you, help you figure this all out with the time you'll have here." He said, no hint of lies in his voice.
"Yes, you are a dick." Nik agreed after a little bit. "And…" he shook his head, closing his eyes.
"And what?" He leaned forwards onto his knees, interested to hear what Nik cut himself off from saying.
He shook his head again. "Doesn't matter." he kept his eyes closed, running his hands through his hair and trying to control his breathing.
"No, it does matter. Everything you say matters." Cas said sternly. He wanted to know, genuinely interested.
"No." Nik replied simply, swallowing and taking deep, measured breaths.
"Yes. Tell me, Nik." There was a layer of softness in his voice that wasn't there before.
Nik's eyes flickered open at the softness, but he didn't look at Cas. He shook his head again, looking over at the fire. "I don't want to."
Cas wanted to press on the issue, but he didn’t, “Okay, then.” He settled on, sighing softly.
Nik closed his eyes again, still trying to process this. All of it. The traveling, the new place. The kidnapping. He swallowed, not sure what to say or do about any of this.
A part of the king felt bad, for the pain he had put Nik through. But, he had made him a deal, and he would honor it, even if he didn't want Nik to leave.
Nik wrapped his arms around himself, taking a deep breath. He opened his eyes, the strange, mismatched colors shining in the light of the fire.
"How are your eyes two different colours?" Cas asked after a few moments of silence, curious. He'd only met one person with two different coloured eyes before and even then he didn't know how it happened.
"Heterochromania iridris." he replied. "It's a condition where one of my eyes has a section that's a different color than the rest." he gestured to his left eye, with its strange brown and green mix.
Cas looked, studying the eye, "Do you know how it happens? Is it some form of magic?"
He laughed. "It's not magic, no. Just genetics." he shook his head slightly. "It's a mutation in my genetics that causes it to happen. It's really rare, but I somehow managed to get it."
“Sounds like magic or sorcery or… something along those lines,” Cas cracked a small smile, “It suits you.”
"It's neither one, I promise. It's science." he replied, shaking his head again. "But thanks, I guess." he seemed to have grown a little more comfortable, just from that.
“I don’t know much about your human science,” He shrugged a shoulder, “It’s all so confusing, I can’t wrap my head around it.”
