Marlee shifted a little.
Marlee shifted a little.
“So uh…. how close is your home from here?”
She looked around. "About seven minutes."
He glanced at his watch nervously, "O-Okay…"
"If it doesn't work, I can just go back to the cafe, I don't want to make you late."
“No, no it’s fine, I won’t be late.” Lies
"Are you sure?"
“Yeah, I’m sure.” He offered a small somewhat shy smile.
Marlee blushed at his smile. "Okay."
His eyes stayed locked to hers for a moment before he looked away, blushing.
Marlee smiled a little. She didn't expect him to be so shy.
Kyle was still smiling a little as he looked down as his feet as he walked.
Marlee blushed a little. She wondered what he was thinking about.
Kyle opened his mouth to speak but a care pulled up on the side walk next to them, "Kyle! Get your useless ass in the car, now!" A man said. Kyle winced, his eyes widening in panic as he turned to Marlee.
"I-I'm sorry, I have to go." He said quietly.
Marlee was taken aback by the man. "Okay…um I'll see you at school, or I'll text you." Marlee offered him a sweet smile.
Kyle offered a small smile back before the man honked at him, “KYLE!”
Kyle winced again and quickly hurried into the backseat as the car sped off.
Marlee waved but she knew he hadn't seen her. She headed towards her house watching birds fly around.
Kyle knew he was in deep trouble and knew he should have gone home when he had to yet… having the chance to make a friend? Maybe it was worth it.
Marlee took out her phone and texted Kyle. "Today was a lot of fun, let's do it again sometime."
Kyle’s phone buzzed and was glad his dad didn’t hear it or him as he replied, Sure, I’d love too.
