Kyle rushed into class the second the bell rang, taking an empty seat at the back of the class.
Marlee rushed to her seat but then noticed the boy from the park sitting in the back of the room.
Kyle gave the girl a small look that meant, ‘What?’
Marlee turned around embarrassed.
Kyle couldn’t help the small smile that crept up into his face but he pushed it down.
Marlee blushed slightly feeling someone watching her from behind.
The class went quickly and when it was over, Kyle slowly walked up to the girl who was looking at him, “Why were you looking at me this morning?”
"W.well, I had seen you in the park this morning and I hadn't reconsidered you but then I saw you in class and I just haven't noticed you before." Marlee stuttered, feeling intimidated by the boy.
“Oh. Well, good. I don’t like being seen.” Kyle replied, taking a step back and rubbing at his neck.
"I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable, I tend to do that to people." Marlee said sheepishly.
Kyle shook his head, “No, no you didn’t. I’m just not used to uh… people and um… them being nice enough to notice me.”
"Oh, well I'm sorry if I upset you or anything. I'm Marlee by the way." Marlee said lowering her eyes.
“Kyle,” He replied, rubbing at his sore wrists, “Why haven’t you insulted me yet?”
"What? Why would I insult you?" Marlee questioned.
Kyle shrugged, “Everyone else does.”
"But I'm not like everyone else." Marlee replied.
“How would I know that?” Kyle raised an eyebrow.
"I'm a farmgirl raised by a single mother who raised me right. I despise mean girls due to bullying in my past but I'm still one of the nicest girls you could find around." Marlee said, trying to sound as sincere as she possibly was able to.
“Well, I’m like the complete opposite to you so… we should probably never talk again.” Kyle slipped a hand into his pocket.
"Oh… um, well I'm sorry." Marlee mumbled, grabbing her books and started heading to the door.
“Wait,” Kyle called out, already regretting this decision, “Or… you could just disregard that and uh… we could… talk…?”
"Only if you want to, I don't want to make you uncomfortable. I tend to do that to a lot of people." Marlee said, biting her lip nervously.
Kyle shook his head, “You don’t make me uncomfortable. And I’m not good at socialising so sorry about that…”
"No, it's okay. I just am a bit socially awkward. I push people away with my over happiness." Marlee stuttered.
“I push people away with my pessimism,” Kyle shrugged, “Then again I haven’t had anyone to push away but…”
