He began humming softly as he finished with the beef and got a new pan for the tofu. Once done, he came up behind Laura and rested his head on her shoulder, still humming.

She gasped quietly in surprise. "Nicky… you scared me."

"Oh, sorry. I just wanted to see how you were doing." Why was his name coming from her so nice?

"I'm stirring this," she giggled. "I'm doing fine."

The urge to kiss her tattoo was worming it's way into his head, so he focused on watching the lemonade spin. "That's good. So, tofu or beef?"

"Beef," she replied, continuing to stir.

"Uh huh. Favorite musical?" He was desperately trying to distract himself.

"Hamilton," she answered quietly. "Why?"

"Oh, Hamilton is good!" He ignored the last part. "I can rap every single song amazingly. I really like Heathers though."

"Legally Blonde, too," she remarked, leaning her head against his. "Why are you asking me this?"

"Am I not allowed to make conversation?" There was a hitch in his breath, and he wrapped his arms around her waist.

Her heart raced, and she blushed furiously. "I-I… Uh, y-you can…"

IT'S NOT WORKING. "Good. Favorite Hamilton song?"

She swallowed nervously and blurted not her favorite song, but the song that first came into her head: "Helpless."

Nicky hummed a bit of the song. "I absolutely adore Wait For It."

"Me too," she said quietly.

Nicky was screaming in his head. "Lin Manuel is a genius, managing to rhyme inimitable and make it sound good in a song."

"Exactly," she whispered.

The lemonade was definitely stirred now, but Nicky really didn't want to move. "Favorite musical song ever?"

"You're killing me, Nicky," she whispered.

"Huh?"

"What are you doing?"

"I'm not sure I understand the question." The lie was evident in his voice.

"I hate liars," she whispered into his hair.

He choked, face heating up. "I-I don't know what you're-urgh."
