Elijah nodded slowly, yet blinked rapidly, clearly not understanding. His eyebrows knitted together and his lips curled into a slightly confused smile. His lips parted slightly in question, but nothing came out. At the very least, he gained confirmation that there was a Heaven… maybe?
"Ookaaay. I guess?" he sighed. "I suppose you're right, it doesn't make sense to me at all." He chuckled lightly. "That's alright though, humans weren't made to understand everything." His mint green eyes met with Azael's blue ones. It wasn't quite the most awkward thing, but it couldn't be considered comfortable. It was something different that Elijah couldn't quite describe. It was like that weird grey area between wanting to look away and never wanted to let go of the stare.
"No, you weren't." Azael agreed with a soft laugh. "I wish I could explain it better, but…there are certain things I am not allowed to say, and other things that I do not know how to say." He shook his head slightly, looking at Elijah and meeting the human boy's green eyes. He wished he could explain better. I could take him there? He blinked at the thought. No. No. That's against the laws, and they would be very angry with both him and me. "It isn't exactly…heaven as you would think of it. Like from your Bible, or Kor'an, or any of the others. It's…those texts pull things from my land and people, but it is not exact. Not… accurate."
Elijah nodded again, his key sign of not understanding. He squinted his eyes and pulled his eyebrows together again. "Okay…" he replied. The mention of the Bible only served to confuse him more. He had never read the Bible before so he didn't quite know what the angel was talking about. "I see…" He tried his best to make it seem like he understood, but it only made it more obvious that he didn't. Moreover, painfully obvious.
He sighed softly. "I'm sorry that I can't explain it better." he said softly. "I really am. I just…I don't know where to begin. How to compare it or anything like that." he ran a hand through his hair, looking at Elijah carefully. "I'm sorry." he said softly. He shrugged.
Elijah smiled, this time not in confusion. He let out a soft chuckle and tilted his head. "It's alright, no need to apologize." Elijah removed his hand from the angel's wrist and quickly rubbed his hand along that of the taller male. He stood with a smile and began walking into the kitchen of his house, his skin regaining its usual pink undertones.
"That aside," he said stretching, his words slightly strained, "I'm hungry." He opened the fridge to a scene that he should've expected at that point. Half a jar of salsa, a pint of milk, a bag of rotten apples, and a plateful of disappointment. He sighed deeply, closing the fridge with a gentle push and rejoining Azael on the couch.
"And I forgot to go grocery shopping. Again," he yawned, slowly laying back against the couch's beige cushioning. He laughed slightly at his own forgetfulness, although the laugh didn't sound all too amused. "I guess I have to go back out of the house… or go hungry." He shrugged his shoulders lightly. "I'm beginning to favor the latter." He looked around slowly, his eyes catching a menu pinned to his refrigerator with a magnet. "Unless…"
Azael watched Elijah for a moment, blinking. He didn't quite understand what Elijah was talking about, other than hunger, but nodded. "I do not quite understand." He said slowly, studying Elijah with those blue, blue eyes. "What are you planning on doing?" His voice was careful, calm and quiet. Reserved. An angel, through and through.
Elijah blinked back at the angel, not knowing how someone couldn't understand the simple concept of ordering food. "'What am I planning on doing?'" he repeated the question, almost as if he didn't hear it, but of course he did. "Why I'm sitting my lazy self back down on that couch and having someone bring food to me," he answered.
He raised himself from the couch, gently pushing against the cushion to help him push off. He walked over to the large stainless steel refrigerator in his kitchen and yanked the menu from under the magnet. As he read through the options of his favourite pizza place, he glanced at Azael, suddenly becoming embarrassed. Something about ordering food in front of someone who was almost a complete stranger to him made him feel funny.
He made a low humming sound and slowly put the menu back on the fridge. "On second thought, I'll go hungry." He walked back into the living room, seating himself on the carpet floor rather than the couch that time around. He placed his hand against his chin in thought, quickly pointing one finger in the air in a seeming lightbulb moment.
"What's it like flying?" he asked, tilting his head slightly. "I've always been curious."
He blinked, cocking his head a little bit. "Oh. Alright." He didn't quite understand what Elijah meant, but didn't push it. "Oh. Flying is…amazing." he said with a smile. "It really is. I can show you when my wings heal, if you like." He ran a hand through his hair. "I should be strong enough to lift you."
Elijah smiled brightly at Azael's offer. Ever since Eli was a small child, he wanted to know what flying was like, moreover, he wanted to be a bird. And even though he wasn't going to be a bird, he still wanted to take the angel's offer. "I'd love that," he chirped, his face brightening significantly. "But for now, I guess I'll keep asking questions… Have you ever seen the stars or been to space for that matter? If so, what was it like?"
Another thing that Elijah had loved so much as a child, and even a teenager, was space. In the middle of the night, he'd always grab his telescope and open the curtains of the window. He'd just look far into the night sky in bliss, never wondering about could've been out there. He'd sit there every night, smiling as bright as the constellations far overhead. He had aspired to be an astronaut, but life just didn't work out like that, so he ended up in medical school, cramming for exams almost every other day.
"Of course I've seen the stars." Azael replied with a smile. "And as for going to space…" he thought for a moment. "I am not sure. Your definition of space may be different from mine, so I am unsure how to answer your question." of course Azael would take Elijah flying if Elijah so desired it. It was the least he could do. Then he thought of how he would have to wipe Elijah's mind of Azael when this was over, and he didn't know what to do. He didn't want to take Elijah's memories. He wanted Elijah to remember, wanted…he didn't know what he wanted. He was a Seraph; he wasn't…supposed to want anything but God's will.
(Hey, it's me, Nie. I forgot the password to my account so my friend gave me theirs.)
(hey! Ooh that sucks, man)
(Yeah, I'll find a way back in somehow, but this is the account I'm using for now. Just wanted to let you know so that you weren't confused by me replying from this account.)
(yeah. Alright! Thanks for telling me :) )
Elijah's eyebrows pulled together slightly. He was sort of confused about Azael's comment on space, but knew that asking wasn't going to clear up much. He looked around the room in silence, before looking back into the deep eyes of the celestial body in front of him. "So, umm… I've been asking a lot of questions, do you have any for me?"
Azael bit his lip for a moment, thinking. "Ah. I…do not think so." He replied softly. The angel knew that the less he knew Elijah, the easier it would be later. Even though he didn't want to. But it was necessary. Or at least, that was what he told himself. Necessary. Of course.
(I just wanna let you know that I haven't forgotten about this! I'll reply ASAP! Thanks for your patience)
