Fox was wandering the grounds of the university after his last class Friday evening, and the chilled, autumn wind but his nose and stung his cheeks. He glanced up at the cloudless sky with a smile. Kiera was going to be meeting him soon, and they would be going out to dinner.
Caspian shivered slightly under the onslaught of a sudden wind, pushing a mess of tangled black hair up and out of his forehead. He tugged a woollen scarf slightly tighter around his neck, turning his face away as the wind blew harshly once again.
I have so much work to do…. an exam tomorrow.. oh god I'm going to fail…
His thoughts went on like this on his way back to his dorm, but in his haste to mentally go over a set of complicated theorems he didn't notice where he had stepped and crashed straight into another guy. (Fox)
Fox stumbled backward in surprise. “Woah, dude. Careful where you’re walking,” he chuckled. “You good?”
"Sorry!" Caspian stumbled backwards, blinking to clear his head. "Yeah, I'm fine- sorry– are you okay?"
Stupid, stupid Caspian. You're such a moron. Always, always an idiot.
“Yeah, I’m good. No worries.” Fox stuck out his hand in greeting. “I’m Fox. You must be new? I don’t think I’ve seen you around, and I know basically everyone here.”
Caspian shook the hand, looking the guy over. He was clearly one of the more popular students, everything about his stance screamed relaxed assurance. "I'm Caspian. Nice to meet you. Yeah, I'm new."
It was hard too, especially since his family and only barely been able to scrounge enough money to send him here, and he still wasn't where he needed to be; at the top of his classes.
Fox nodded and stick his hands in his pockets. "Where are you from, Caspian?"
Caspian did his best to match Fox's relaxed posture. "Seattle. Before that, Korea. You?"
"I'm just from the town over. I somehow managed to get a scholarship here," Fox said with a shrug. "Not sure why they chose me, of all people, but who'm I to complain about free college, right?"
Caspian nodded, faking a convincing chuckle. "Free college sounds like a definite perk. Did you get an academic or sports scholarship?"
“Academic. Who knew I was smart enough for that?” Fox laughed. “Anyway, what degree are you going for?”
Caspian rubbed at the back of his neck awkwardly. “Marine Biology. How about you.”
“Journalism, actually. I’m an aspiring writer,” Fox chuckled.
“Cool! So like, travel journalist? What kind?” Caspian asked, relaxing slightly.
