“Us? Like… on a date?” He asked slowly, glancing at her again. He wouldn’t be able to express how much he would like a date with her. But he was prepared to laugh off the suggestion.
“Us? Like… on a date?” He asked slowly, glancing at her again. He wouldn’t be able to express how much he would like a date with her. But he was prepared to laugh off the suggestion.
Yes, us. You are the only person out here.” She props herself up on her elbows. A date? She hasn’t meant it like that but she definitely would like to go out on a date with him. After a moment she nods her head. “Like on a date.” If she doesn’t try asking him now then she never will.
Cameron sat up when she rose on her elbows, his dark eyes rather bright with hope when she told him it was a date.
“Then yes. I would like that. A lot.” He willed himself not to blush, but a bit of it fought through onto his cheeks. “Where should we go?” Should I dress up for her? I bet she’d like that.
Ava blinks in surprise when he actually agrees to it. That’s a pleasant but unexpected surprise. She can’t be bothered to stop the smile tugging at her lips. “Is that Japanese place we used to go to still open?” She asks, hopeful. The food there is amazing. Oh fuck. This is actually a date. I haven’t been on a real date since I died. That’s a sudden and painful realization.
Cameron mirrored the smile on her face, excitement building up in his chest and making his heart thump in his chest all over again.
“Yeah, it is. We could go there and ask to get our usual seat near the oceanside if you’d like?” Now he was keen to make it the best date, to set off a chain of better ones. Well… hopefully.
“That would be great,” Ava agrees, excitement in her eyes for the first time in a long time. The restaurant is pretty nice so that means she’ll have to get dressed up a little but it’ll be worth it.
Cameron smiled warmly at her excitement, standing up and dusting himself off.
“I’m gonna go get ready. You’re welcome to go home and come back if you want.” He glanced down at Lily with a slight frown. She was sleeping away peacefully with Kreja. That’d probably be the only way she would stay down.
“Do you think you can keep Kreja here?”
Ava raised to her feet as well. “Yeah, I’ll be back a little later.” She’ll have to get dressed and then check in with her brother and father to let them know that she’s okay. “Of course he can stay. He was so excited when he realized we were coming. Kreja really does love Lily.”
“Okay. I’ll be sure they stay that way.” He looked down at the sleeping dogs again, his lips pulled up in the first genuine smile he had for a while.
“He does, doesn’t he? Lily does too, I think. She’s such a sweet girl. It’s hard to say that she wouldn't.”
"Kreja normally doesn't get along well with other dogs but he's always loved Lily. They are just so sweet together." She smiles softly at the dogs before stretching out a little. "Yeah, Lily is a sweet girl. I don't think she knows how to dislike anyone.'
“They are sweet together. And she doesn’t. She likes everyone she meets.” Cameron hummed and stepped up onto the porch, looking down at Ava. “Alright. So… see you later, then. Do you wanna meet up here?”
Ava nods her head. "Meeting up here sounds good." She agrees with a slight smile. "Kreja should sleep the entire time but let me know if he's any trouble," She tells him, hoping that her crazy dog will behave.
“Oh, he’ll be fine,” Cameron assured gently. “Lily will keep him in check, even from her massage pad.” He started to trot inside, wondering what he should wear. He would probably go pretty casual, since she knows him pretty well.
Ava chuckles before following him inside, casting Kreja and Lily one more glance. “I’ll see you later.” She says before heading out of the house through the front door. It’s about a fifteen minute walk back to her hotel so she should pick up the pace a little.
Cameron practically jumped up the steps in his haste to make it to his shower. He nosed through his clothes curiously, taking out a not-ratty pair of jeans that were pressed and brand new, a belt, and a neat black v-neck. He tossed them on his bed and took a shower, also deciding to shave and toss up his hair a little.
Ava makes it back to the hotel and heads up to her room. After taking a quick shower, she gets dressed in a pair of fitted dark wash jeans, a blue v-neck shirt, and a pair of heels. Her hair is curled and left down with a few strands pulled back. She then puts on a pair of simple blue earrings, a silver bracelet, and a silver bird in flight necklace. An alert from her phone lets her know that it's time for her to check in with her father.
Cameron ran his fingers over his smooth face, glowering at his reflection in the mirror. Something didn’t look right. Maybe it was the fact he just looked tired. He couldn’t quite help that, but he just rubbed water into his face and wiped off anything that might’ve been on his face. He got dressed and slipped on a pair of shoes that weren’t beaten down, trotting downstairs after applying deodorant. He didn’t need to get too fancy for her. Ava probably wouldn’t appreciate cologne. He wasn’t even sure he had any.
“I’m fine. No, I won’t be coming home early. I’m actually about to meet with someone.” Ava is doing her best to wrap up the conversation with her father so she can get going. “Yeah, yeah, I know. Bye.” With a relieved sigh, she tucks her phone away. She glances at the clock and nods. It’s time to go. She grabs her leather jacket and tugs it on before heading out of the door.
Cameron sat near the dogs with a soft sigh, glancing down at them with a warm smile. The massage pad had stopped after the thirty minute mark, and it was just the dogs sharing each other’s warmth. He was half-tempted to bring them inside but he was afraid of disturbing and riling up Kreja. Deciding it was best to move them before it got cold, he stood and slowly and gently picked up Lily on her pad. Lily stirred a little and rose her head against his chest as she was supported, Camern gently nudging the other dog with a foot.
“Come on, Kreja, we’re going inside.”
Kreja lifts his head and huffs at Cameron, not happy about being woken up. With a yawn, he stands up and stretches. He wags his tail and trots inside.
Ava exits the hotel and walks down the street to head to Cameron’s house. The sun is starting to set and it’s starting to get a little cooler outside. She shivers a little and wraps her jacket closer around her body.
Cameron shifted his large dog in his strong arms, smiling at Kreja and bobbing after Kreja. He walked upstairs and slowly laid Lily down on the bed, carefully taking the pad from under her and gently kissing her nose.
“You’re a princess, my puppy. You get some sleep with Kreja okay?”
Lily’s mouth popped open into a smile, and she gave Cameron’s cheek a kiss. He chuckled and gently stroked her ears.
“Thanks Lily girl. I’ll be home… eventually.”
Kreja trots after Cameron, clearly excited to be back here. Once they’re in the bedroom, he leaps up onto the bed and curls up next to Lily with a happy sigh.
Ava approaches the door and knocks. When she hears the familiar sound of Kreja barking, she can’t help but crack a smile. That crazy dog has always had an issue with these types of things.
Lily’s tail thumped but she didn’t stand to go investigate the sound. Cameron finished wrapping her up again in a blanket, but this time inviting Kreja to share with her once he calmed down.
Cameron also called for Ava to enter with his loud, bellowing voice. Hopefully she’d hear it and assume he was upstairs.
Kreja barks several times when he hears someone knocking on the door. He only shuts up when invited to snuggle up under the blanket. With a doggy smile, he accepts the offer and cuddles up right next to Lily.
Ava opens the door and steps inside when she hears Cameron’s shout. A quick glance around tell her that he’s not down here. She heads upstairs and ends up finding him wrapping a blanket around the dogs.
Cameron hummed and tucked it securely under Kreja, glancing up over his shoulder with a slight grin.
“Hey, I’m almost done here. Just making sure these two are comfortable before we go. I don’t want Kreja getting Lily excited.” He chuckled and gently booped Kreja’s nose and kissed Lily’s. He straightened up and meandered over to Ava running a hand through his hair.
“You look great!”
