Laura shrugged some, face dull. She looked exhausted, and somewhat empty at the moment.
"F-fine, I guess…" She mumbled with another shrug.

Ash didn't believe Laura, not with that look on her face. He gently ran his fingers through her hair, holding her close again quietly.
Laura kept quiet, letting him run his fingers through her hair. She honestly didn't care anymore. Mr. Ash had told her not to pretend she was okay if she wasn't, so she didn't bother to put any effort in. She wasn't okay, not even remotely.
"I'm sorry, sir…" She mumbled once more, not looking up at him.
"There's nothing to apologize for," Ash said in turn. He held Laura close. He was glad she wasn't trying to pretend, but… it broke his heart to see her so hurt. Still, it was preferable to her trying to deal with this on her own.
Laura wanted to disagree, but couldn't. She was too tired to even come up with anything to say. There wasn't really any point. So instead she kept quiet, leaning into his arms for support.
Ash leaned back against the headboard, holding Laura close. He ran his fingers through her hair again, keeping silent.
Laura leaned further up against him, looking up at him. She never tried to pull away, going limp in his arms.
"I'm so sorry…" She apologized once again. "I'm sorry for being like this. I'm sorry I… I just can't do anything right…" Laura mumbled, still leaning into him.
Ash gently leaned his head down to Laura.
"It's okay, sweetie," he said softly. "You didn't choose to be like this, it's okay. I'm here to help you…" Ash gently set his head on Laura, keeping her close.
"B-But it's not okay. I-I shouldn't be like th-this…." Laura insisted, her breathing short and shallow. Her shoulders were sinking lower, the defeated look on her face staying.
"I-I'm a kid…" She mumbled, hugging herself tighter.
Ash fell silent, holding Laura close. She was right, but he didn't think it would be a good idea to agree. He held her tightly, not letting go anytime soon.
Laura grew quiet when he didn’t respond, settling into her thoughts. She was still playing with her sleeves, pulling and prodding at the fabric. She didn’t have anything else to say. What was she suppose to say? Everything had already been said that needed to be said.
Still quiet, Ash rubbed gentle circles into Laura's back. He kept his eyes resting lightly on her, just making sure she was okay.
Laura eventually looked up at him after about twenty minutes, tears stinging at her eyes. She wasn't crying exactly, but she still wasn't exactly okay.
"I- um… I'm sorry…" She whispered. "We… we can get up."
Ash looked down at Laura, one hand going up to gently cup her cheek.
"Are you sure?" He asked softly. He didn't want her pushing herself.
"Y-yeah… I'm sure." Laura insisted, sucking in a deep breath. She rubbed at her eyes some, doing her best to get rid of the forming tears.
"We can get up."
Ash rested his head on Laura's hand a moment, then stood, holding Laura close to himself.
Laura kept close, nuzzling up into his shoulder. She didn’t want him to let her go. Not now at least. There was only so much she could handle right now.
“I-I um… what do we need to do?” Laura asked softly, looking up at him.
"I…" Ash trailed off a bit.
"We'll have to get dinner," he finally said softly. He ran his fingers through her hair.
Laura tensed some at that, looking up at him.
"I- could… could you get it for me?" She asked softly, eyes flicking back down to her hands.
"I will," Ash said softly. "But I'm not going to leave now." He wanted to stay until Laura was doing better.
“B-but aren’t you hungry? Don’t… don’t we need to eat?” Laura asked softly, looking up at him. She gave him a soft look, still playing with her sleeves.
“I-I can sit here for a couple minutes… I don’t mind.”
Ash sat down on the edge of the bed.
"I'm not leaving you alone," Ash said softly. "Not while you're recovering from this. I will not abandon you, even if only for a few minutes."
Laura gave him a confused look, not seeming to understand. Why would he want to stay with her? She didn’t mind it— she actually preferred it— but it confused her.
“I- um… I- thank you, sir. But you really… you really can go if…” She trailer, knowing he would just tell her no once more. It was silly to even try.
Ash ran his fingers through Laura's hair.
"It's okay, I'll stay," he said softly. He want going anywhere any time soon.
Laura sighed softly, resting her head against his shoulder. She looked up at him, her face relaxing some. At least now she didn't look too miserable.
"Alright, sir… if you're sure." She whispered, nuzzling into the crook of his neck as she curled up closer.
