"You should never apologise for interrupting me," She whispered to him. "If you ever need help, I'm here for you. Don't forget that."
"You should never apologise for interrupting me," She whispered to him. "If you ever need help, I'm here for you. Don't forget that."
Lucas closed his eyes, his hands shaking violently now. He quickly tried to brush away the tears falling down his cheeks, but he could only push them away so quickly.
"Do you want me to help clear your cuts?" Carter asked, as softly as possible.
"I-I don't want you to, but I know I should…" Personally, I'd like them to stay open until I bled out. Lucas allowed Carter to drag him over to the sink.
Carter started to run the water over Lucas' cuts. "Can I…can I show you something?" She asked softly.
Lucas hissed through his teeth in pain when the water hit his cuts. He had to fight a strong urge to run. "W-What?"
Carter reached up and pulled her shirt off, turning to face away from Lucas. She had many healed cuts along her back, all coming from a different instrument.
Lucas examined the scars quietly before looking back at his own arms. "It's been a while, hasn't it…? They're all healed.." I shouldn't have cut so deep…
"I wasn't as popular in school as dad thinks. I had bullies, like everyone else. They thought they could break me down until I was nothing. They tried so many things."
Lucas had crossed his arms at this point, subconsciously digging his fingernails into them. "L-Life's kinda shit, huh?" He noticed fresh blood on his arms from his fingernails. "God dammit…"
"You should have come to me," She said, pulling her shirt back on. "I know that we don't always get along, but I care for you. You're my brother."
"W-Well, I didn't think you would care… dad wouldn't care, and mom isn't around enough to care… and it's no secret I haven't really got any friends." Lucas stared guiltily at the floor, trying to prevent the tears welling up in his eyes from falling.
"You always have me," She said, a small smile on her face. "I'm not gonna leave you. I promise."
Lucas looked back up at Carter, rubbing his tears away as soon as they fell. He hugged Carter again, trying to stop his shaking.
"You don't need to be scared to come to me. I will always be here for you. I swear."
Lucas nodded quietly. I know she cares, but it can still be hard to ask for help sometimes. "I-I really should leave you alone now… you're busy." He smiled weakly to reassure her and managed to slip from her grasp.
Carter watched him go, knowing that he needed space. She sensed Spencer move closer, and she felt him wrap his arms around her. "Life is hard."
Lucas walked until he was out of sight, at which point he ran up to his room. He sat on the edge of his bed and hid his face in his hands, crying quietly.
"Yeah, it is," Carter replied softly. "Sometimes you have ups, but sometimes you have downs. And you never know when it's going to hit."
I should have been more careful… She didn't need to know. Lucas put his headphones on and turned the volume up.
"Yeah, but that's life," Spencer sighed. "It's a rollercoaster of fuck ups and emotions."
I should probably rewrap them… He thought to himself, grabbing some bandages and wrapping them around his arms. He tore off the excess with his teeth since he didn't currently trust himself with sharp objects.
"I guess we just reached a good part though," Carter thought out loud. "I mean, we're going to Broadway."
Do I really have to leave here so soon? I'm terrified of acting, and I won't be able to go to college… I'll be stuck living with Carter forever. Lucas lay back on his bed and stared at the ceiling.
"Yeah, which is amazing," Spencer laughed. "Did you ever think that we would have the opportunity to go on Broadway when we started MouseTrap?"
