Sterling smiled softly and squeezed her hand back. “Do you want to try to eat something? Just a couple of bites?” he asked gently.
Sterling smiled softly and squeezed her hand back. “Do you want to try to eat something? Just a couple of bites?” he asked gently.
“No,” Eden mumbled, shaking her head. She finally removed her glasses and set them aside before resting her head back on her arm. “I really can’t stomach anything right now.”
“Okay. I’m almost done, babe. Can you hang on to you consciousness for a few minutes longer?” Sterling asked, partly teasing her.
Eden didn’t open her eyes to glare at him, but she clicked her tongue at his teasing.
“I cannot,” she mumbled. “Because you make me feel safe, and that makes me feel relaxed.”
“Well, I’m glad you feel safe around me,” Sterling whispered shoving the last bite of food in his mouth. When he was done, he squeezed Eden’s hand again. “I’m going to go put my dishes in the sink. Are you going to fall asleep in the thirty seconds I’m gone?”
“No,” Eden finally opened an eye to look at him. “My safe haven is going to leave for a few seconds. Can I fall asleep in the time he’s not here? I think not.”
Sterling chuckled and stood. He picked up his dishes, swiftly kissed Eden’s head, then brought everything out to the kitchen. After he had put everything away, he came back out and held his hand out to her.
“Ready to go back to bed, beautiful?”
Eden lifted her head up and stretched her legs, covering her mouth as she yawned. Finally, she stood up and took his hand.
“Mhm,” she hummed. “I am. Carry me?”
“As my queen wishes, so it shall be,” Sterling murmured, bending down and scooping her into his arms. He carried her, bridal style, back to her bedroom, where he then laid her down on the bed.
The action had been pretty intimate for E, especially after all the books she’d read. Especially a specific author’s, but she bit back the blush. It wasn’t hard to push it away, anyway.
She laid on the bed, looking up at her boyfriend and spread her arms for him. “Come on…”
Sterling chuckled softly and laid down beside her. He tugged the blankets up over them both and wrapped an arm around her. “Goodnight again, Eden,” he murmured softly.
Eden nestled against his side, breathing him in. She tangled their legs together, looking up to connect their lips softly before resting her cheek on his chest.
Surrounded by warmth and the loving scent of cinnamon and musk, Eden found herself slipping into sleep. She barely heard his words before her own lips parted, her words slurred. “I… love you, Sterling…”
Sterling sucked in a breath. She… what? She loved him? Really?
“Eden… What…?” he started to ask in a breath before he realized that she was already asleep. And now… he might not be able to.
Eden woke up the next morning feeling refreshed. It was surprising, considering what happened the other day, but she wasn’t complaining. She couldn’t.
She was pressed against a hard chest and a smile immediately covered her lips. Her boyfriend, Sterling. She was really in too deep with him, wasn’t she? And she had no idea if he was, too. She wouldn’t blame him if he didn’t feel the same way. She’d just realized it herself, after all. And she had yet to tell him, too.
But it was nearly time for school, and that meant getting out of his arms…
Sterling has his face buried in the back of her neck, his arms wrapped around her stomach and holding her back against his chest. He felt her stir and cracked an eye open, breathing in her jasmine scent. A smile tugged on his lips before a rock dropped in his stomach as he remembered what she had accidentally told him earlier that morning.
Should he tell her what she’d said? Or should he wait and let her tell him on her own terms, when she was awake enough to remember it?
“Morning, beautiful,” he murmured, lips pressed against her neck.
Eden shifted, his lips and warm breath tickling her, in his arms until she was facing him. She looked up at him and smiled sleepily.
“Morning, handsome,” she mumbled, reaching up to cup his cheek. “You didn’t sleep?”
“No, I did. I think I got most of the sleep I needed earlier, though, so I was up about an hour ago,” Sterling said, leaning into her touch with his eyes closed contentedly. “How did you sleep?”
“I slept nice,” Eden traced his cheek with her thumb, loving the fact that she woke up in his arms. “You know… I really love the idea of waking up like this. Pressed against you, your arms around me…”
Sterling’s heart skipped at beat at the word “love.” He smiled down at her and pressed a kiss to her nose.
“Yeah? I like it, too. I like it a lot,” he murmured softly.
Like. Just like, huh…?
She didn’t let that dampen her mood. She pulled out of arms and rubbed her eyes, arching her back slightly. “I need a shower…”
Sterling clicked his tongue and pulled her back against him. “Little bit longer… Please?” he asked quietly, pressing a lingering kiss to her cheek. “Let me kiss you for a bit?”
Eden let out a little ‘oof’ at his action before she relaxed, setting her hands on his chest. “Since you said please…” she mumbled, hand lifting up to trail his lips. “You can kiss me, slave.”
“Don’t call me that unless you want trouble, sweetheart,” Sterling muttered, pressing their lips together and rolling so that she laid on top of him.
Eden smiled against his mouth, resting her hands on his shoulders as she kissed him back.
“What sort of trouble…?”
“The sort of trouble you don’t want yet,” Sterling mumbled against her lips, reaching up to rest his hands on her waist.
