"Believe me, over 900 years of being aromantic and you're surprised that I'd finally get out of my own head after a considerably painful regeneration trauma? Never mind. I do think this has quite a good chance of working, yes, but I have proved myself wrong before. Now, shall we?" he asked.
"Of course, Doctor." Melanie nods, and she brings out a lighter from her back pocket of her jeans, which has a dark pink leopard pattern on it. "I have four of these…whatever we're to call them, to scare the reptilian thing out there away." They're about the size of Melanie's fist. "I'll light them, you throw them, okay?" And she starts lighting them, handing them to the Doctor. "Hold them by the gauze, it shouldn't be ignited yet."
"Right." he said, taking the makeshift explosives and, once lit, tossing them towards the creature. You could see it better, it was a giant thing, with iron scales and a long, spiked tail, glowing yellow eyes. And it had company. The leader roared, then charged at the building with its fellows, but so far it was holding up. Fortunately.
"Jesus Christ! What are those things? I'm kinda glad that we're out of their reach" Melanie's the slightest bit frantic. "Are they leaving?"
"I have no idea, but I'm not so keen on finding out. Let's go." he said, moving back down the stairs.
"Okay. I sure am glad I didn't go out there and try to fight them…" Melanie follows him down into the diner, somewhat exhausted.
"Don't worry, I wouldn't have let you." he smiled, taking off his coat and draping it over her shoulders. The coat smelled faintly of honey, sandalwood, and something spicy. "Cheer up, I'm sure all will turn out perfectly fine. Remeber, you've got me here to solve this for us."
"What necessarily made you and I a team? And besides, how am I supposed to cheer up after seeing…seeing whatever those…those things were?"
"Pure chance, Melanie, but you have a lot more skill than most of your species shows. Trust me," he smiled, leading them back to the others.
"Wha-there are way more people out there who are better than me! Like, I can't do psychic-voodoo… Whatever you do!" Melanie crosses her arms inside, trying to make a point.
"Melanie, Melanie, Melanie, MelanieMelanieMelanieMelanie. You're ever so hard on yourself. I mean, really. You have potential. Millions of atoms from the beginning of time came together to form you in all your Melanie-ness, and you underestimate yourself so much?" he asked with a pained look.
"Okay, please stop. I think I've heard my name enough times for me to question its own existence. God, it's like saying a word over and over again; eventually, it becomes meaningless. And, okay, I can do some things better than others, and I have had a rough life, but that doesn't make me much different from anyone else! Look, I wish I could sugar-coat this, but it's hard for me not to: I'm just some boring, old, low-life person who happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, and I'd rather get back to my life than spend time philosophizing over how the universe began, or how humans came into existence. But I can't because those things might still be out there!"
"You're not different?" the Doctor snorted. "Oh, I hate to tell you this, but you very much are. You're so individual. There is nobody else like you, and there will never be. And you're strong, I've seen it. Melanie… you can do anything, alright? Anything. You could travel the stars." he smiled, patted her shoulder, then walked off to see to the scared clump of civilians.
"Like hell I could," Melanie grumbles, walking over to a booth and sitting in it. "Sure, let's all be some wonderful happy community where people can fly on rainbows and travel the universe…somehow without needing oxygen to breathe!" Melanie was talking to herself now. "And we all live happily ever after, yay!" As much as she doubted his words, Melanie couldn't get them out of her head. She refused to believe that she could be something great, but there was a glimmer of hope in her mind.
"You're a highly pessimistic young woman, you know that?" the Doctor asked.
"Sadly, yes, I do know that. It's a common thing for me to do, so I do apologize in advance." Melanie sighs, and leans against the wall. "And now I'm stuck here, bored out of my mind with freaked-out people who probably have much better lives than me, and I bet you're-nevermind, I don't know if I can compare you to me. Yep, this is my pessimistic life."
"Seriously? Melanie, you're much better than me! You can see the universe, really see it. You're gifted. The stars themselves can't compare to you, much less me!" he exclaimed.
"I have high doubts, but fine" Melanie stands, and has a slight smile on her face. "Better calm down this crowd anyways," she gestures to the group of people, some whom are panicked.
"Okay, everyone!" Melanie yells, "So, we don't know if they're gone or not-and it's not the best idea to go out there and find out, so we'll probably have to wait this out. How, I don't really know, but please, everyone stay calm. In the meantime, plan for us staying here tonight, so that means blankets and other soft objects, and we'll hope for the best!"
"Exactly. Also, if anyone has any idea as to what's going on here, we need all the information we can get if worst comes to worst." he said somberly.
"And between all of us, I think it's best that the Doctor and I look out, probably in shifts, seeing as we've seen these things." And wouldn't panic as they would. "I'll volunteer for the first watch, I'm a heavy sleeper, and I usually don't like being woken up." Melanie smiled shyly.
(Also, can I compliment you?
- You do an amazing job writing/speaking as the Doctor
- This RP is probably one of the only ones where I can't wait to continue it! I'm probably going to see if I can watch Docter Who at all.)
The Doctor didn't actually sleep all that much, Time Lords only needed a few hours each week, but he decided to take this time to talk to the others, find out what they knew. "Ah, Tobias, was it? Tell me, since your friend seems to be, er, our of it at the moment and your other seems unable to talk… you seem to be less scared than the others, but not in the way Melanie might be. Like you know more than you're telling. I promise, I won't bring it up with the others, you can go on living your life. Just tell me what I need to know, so we can all get out of here safely." he smiled. Tobias just turned away, looking out the window. Nothing was out there so far, but you could hear a faint growling. "Listen, I don't know nothing, okay? Besides, of all the people we could suspect, you're the biggest one!" he stood up from his position of leaning against the counter, fists clenched. "You get off on this! You come in here, oh so posh and all, like you own the place, and next these… things attack!" he shouted.
(Aww, thanks! I do some voice acting as well as improv in my daily life, that's probably why I find it easy to get into character lol. hides stash of fanfictions she's been editing to get characters more into character yeah, that's probably the only reason. And I'm glad this is an intriguing plot, I'm actually using one of my own life experiences for this. No, I wasn't attacked by space lizards, but I did get stuck in an elevator once with a bunch of strangers. The elevator kept creaking and groaning, it was an old thing, and when we finally got out [it was only 45 minutes before help arrived, thank God. I've heard people get stuck for days at a time sometimes] I kept going over the experience in my head, and eventually wrote a little thing based off it.)
(Oh, also, sorry for the late replies. I'm really busy most days, lol. Sorry!)
(It's fine!)
Melanie, after pacing for a while around the diner, eventually gets bored and slouches in the booth that she ate in, and sighed, "Who knew watching over people could be so boring?" Melanie stifles a yawn, "And maybe tiring…"
"Tobias, I want you to calm down, now. You're-" he was cut off at Tommy playing an upbeat rhythm on his stylophone. "Oh, for goodness sake." Tricia sighed, getting up. "He's been acting weird ever since he got that damn thing! Toby, you can tell the man! Doctor, you… well, Tobias is right of course." she said, slightly unsure. "I can see this line of inquiry will prove fruitless." he said. The Doctor left them, then walked over to Melanie. "I can take the watch from you if you'd like, you must be exhausted."
"Wake me if the world burns down," Melanie jokes. "Seriously though, wake me up if there is an immediate danger." Melanie lays in the booth, with the Doctor's coat serving as a blanket (I think she still has that, right?) and her feet almost touching the floor. Within a few minutes, she's lightly snoring.
