(I gtg in a couple of minutes. I may be on over the weekend, I may not, I don't know, but I will be on Monday.)
(Alright.)
Melanie stares at him. "Someone I knew told me I was as stubborn as a mule. I don't know, or really care, what 'erase you from history' means, but goddammit, how am I supposed to live-if I even survive this-without knowing what the absolute hell is happening here!?" She was screaming now, and her eyes widen. "I-I'm sorry I yelled. You probably have a good reason to not tell me, probably something beyond my understanding. So I'll try to forget this if I survive. I may not return to this diner without being cautious, but I'll get over it." She walks to the front of the diner with a peaceful look on her face, and she thinks about what to do next.
The Doctor sighed, bringing a palm to his face and bringing his fingers through his hair. "All right, all right, that might have been mild hyperbole. Okay, I'm… where to start. An alien. Called the Doctor. Yes, that is a name. Doctor Who? Just the Doctor, thanks. Now, we really should get to work on figuring out what those things are and why they're here." he said.
"I didn't mean for you to retaliate much, but that's fine…Doctor…?" She tries the name and knows it's going to be a while to get used to it. "Ok, I need to ask you a few questions-not about yourself, since we'd be getting nowhere if I did-but about the monster. When you looked outside, did you see anything other than its eyes, like skin, fur, any noticeable features? Um…We need to know how desperate it is to kill someone, provided that it's probably hungry, and (I'm pretty sure its nighttime since the Doctor saw glowing eyes) since it's dark out, and no one's really seen this thing during daylight hours, do you suppose it's scared of the light, perhaps? I have a lighter that I could use, but I don't want to waste fuel. Before you ask, NO I do not smoke, that's revolting. I just have it to remind myself that I'm not always in control of everything, especially when I'm upset."
"I'll address your comments in reverse order. Lighters are useful, I actually have a set of Everlasting Matches in my pockets. No, the diner gives off enough light as it is, it, or possibly they, wouldn't be scared. And I didn't see much, just big teeth, eyes, and scales, and a lot of it." he said.
"What're we supposed to do then? We got, what, at most ten civilians who are scared to bits, and all we do is wait this out? I can't just stay here doing nothing!" Melanie starts pacing, her temper slowly rising. "And I'd rather do something productive than stay in this…this one hell of a diner!" She was half talking to herself, half talking to the Doctor. "How are we supposed to figure anything out if they're disguised by the dark? I can't-no, I don't want to understand this. I want this to be a dream, but dreams are never this vivid, never this realistic! What the hell am I supposed to do in this mess?"
"Breathe, Melanie. I can get us out of here." the Doctor said, then clapped his hands, the sound louder than one would expect. "Alright, everyone! I am the Doctor, and this is the lovely Miss Melanie. If you would all be so kind as to introduce yourselves, we can get to work." he said. "Flo." the waitress mumbled, "Pat." said the blonde, "Max," the trucker grunted, "I'm Tricia," the female in the black-haired trio said. "Tobias. What kinda name's the Doctor, huh? Oh, and that's Tommy," he pointed to the third, "he's in one of his little trances. Again." he snapped towards the male, who was absentmindedly running his knuckles across the keys of a stylophone (It's a sort of mini-piano? Google it maybe, IDK.) and staring at nothing.
Melanie scowls at the Doctor. "I don't like people" She uttered under her breath. Melanie sighed and faked a smile, still looking at the Doctor. "Please, don't call me Miss Melanie. I know it's courteous, but please, call me Melanie, or Mel if you prefer." She walks over to the Doctor. "And I am anything but lovely." She hisses in his ear, still with the fake smile. "But, a good way to introduce ourselves to these people! It really is nice to meet you all, even in these… unideal conditions." Melanie's voice still sounded cheery, even though she was irritated. She was not a people person. Even though it was easy to talk to them, they were almost always predictable to Melanie.
(I think I'm bumping this…I wanna know what happens next, Sparky…)
(Oh God, I'm sorry! Today has been a bit busy, lol, I've been having a lot of medical exams cuz my iron is low, which is kinda weird because I've been eating fine. I'm not at risk of anything lethal at the moment, not even enough to cause that much harm, but we are kinda concerned. I'll be fine tho, lol.)
"Alright then, Melanie. Or Mel. And believe me, you haven't proven yourself to be the nicest, far from lovely, I was only being formal for posterity's sake." he said. "Alright, it's lovely to meet everyone. I promise, I'll be getting you out of this. You'll have to trust me, however," he glance to Tobias, "and I promise to return that trust of you remain faithful. Nobody is to leave the diner, whatever is out there surely will prove deadly. That being said, we need to spread out, cover the weakest points, keep whatever's out three out. Understand?" he asked.
"What we know is very little, but, if we can all ride this out, we should all be fine! Whatever is out there will lose interest and go somewhere else, preferably away from society. Are there any emergency supplies that may be of any use to us?" Melanie addresses the waitress.
"Well, we have a first aid kit, and plenty of food to last quite a while." Flo offered, unsure. The Doctor nodded pleasantly to her, and then to Melanie. He was giving her the floor, letting her assert the situation.
(gtg, I'll be back around 9:15 EST)
"Okay, given that the-whatever it is out there-has scales" She nods to the Doctor. "It's reasonable to believe that it's some sort of reptile or amphibian. But what doesn't get me is the cold weather… So does that mean it's a mammal with scales?" Melanie starts pacing. "So we have a medical kit, which could-" She looks up to the Doctor. "I'm assuming this place has a roof that we can access, yes? Doctor, I may be doing something risky, but I'd be helping us know more about its-or their-appearance." She catches her breath. "Okay, a medical kit has the basic stuff-cotton balls, gauze, and rubbing alcohol. I think that, if I could get myself to the roof with the medical kit, I could douse the cotton balls in the rubbing alcohol, maybe wrapping the gauze around half of it and light them, throwing them around the building. The only thing that could go wrong is if they could climb, or if it's on the roof already."
"Good plan, very logical. Tell me, what do you want to achieve from this? Are you trying to kill the creature or see if they're scared off?" he asked. The Doctor abhorred meaningless violence, it went against everything he had stood for in all his lives.
"I'm hoping to at least see what they look like, but scaring them off works too. After that, if they come back, we'll hopefully not be trapped." Melanie seems a bit happy with herself.
"It's a sound plan. Tell me, Flo," he turned to the elderly waitress, "is there a roof access?" she looked confused. "Yes, but I don't see why you'd want to go out and face that thing,"
"Okay, I'll do it" Melanie sounded determined and nervous, maybe anxious. "Can we access the roof from inside?"
"Yes, there's a set of stairs in the back." Flo nodded, and the Doctor shot off towards them. Tobias looked confused as to why anyone would be so eager to face the thing, but then let it go.
"Jesus! No need to run! I opted to do this anyways, and besides, you don't have the medical kit!" Melanie runs after him, pausing to find the medical kit, only to go up the stairs where the Doctor was. "Fast runner, you are. Even in that outfit" Melanie's huffing by now.
"It's helpful to be able to sprint quickly from one place to another, what with my lifestyle and all. And what's wrong with my outfit, might I ask?" he raised an incredulous eyebrow.
"You know what? You do you. Even if you are dressed up, I'd better not start up a whole thing where I don't believe you, in which, I still don't, by the way." Melanie sits on the roof and opens the kit, sorting through the things that they'd need.
(gtg)
"I'm not dressed up, this is my normal outfit. I found it in a locker of a morgue, if you must know, and the shoes, which fit perfectly by the way, that's very important, were given to me by a certain Doctor Grace Holloway. Lovely woman, her, but not much of a traveller. We kissed underneath some fireworks, but she left me pretty soon after." he said, slightly pained. Grace. But he was past her by now, and either way, there was more to worry about than a woman he didn't even get the chance to know all that well.
Melanie cringed at the kissing part and shook her head, "If you keep your head in the clouds about Ms. Grace, you might end up dead. Anyways, we should be ready to do this, I just need to soak the cotton balls. Do you think this will work?" Well, we can try, Melanie answered in her head. "And before you get more into it, I'd rather not know of your love life; we've only known each other for what? Twenty, thirty minutes?"
