"No, no, I'm not really here to draw attention. Just a careful observer, me. So, why don't you tell me a little about yourself? Hmm… from what I can tell, you're a college student with not very much money, born on October the 25th, you were raised by less than loving parents who normally left you to your own devices, suffered a serious depressive episode quite recently, and you're quite skilled in martial combat. Did I miss anything? Other than a name, which I believe begins with an… M. Yes?" the Doctor said, standing up, palms down on the table.
Melanie goes rigid, then relaxes. "Oh, I get it! You're one of those con artists who can tell things by a person's face. Always wanted to do that… Never really liked street magic, though. Don't think I could learn it."
"It isn't magic, just basic telepathy-sorry, yeah,it's street magic." the Doctor shrugged.
"That 'M' name? Melanie. I'm sorry if I come off as a little… unknowing? I spend most of my time figuring out financial problems, especially revolving around college. I don't know if I can save enough for another year, so I've been looking at jobs, most of them low-paying. And I don't think I'll get a decent job-oh, I'm rambling again, sorry. So, what should I know about you? Besides the fact that you're dressed nicely in a diner?"
"Oh, nothing, nothing. Just a friendly, passive observer, just playing my part in things." he hesitated, "What if I told you there were other worlds, planets, universes?" the Doctor asked quietly.
"It's always a possibility. I mean, isn't the definition of a universe pretty much a place where anything and everything exists? I'm open to the idea, I guess, is what I'm saying." Melanie crosses her arms, "Why? Are you trying to play a Dr. Strange on me?" (Marvel)
(gtg in 4 minutes, but I might be on tomorrow)
(Lol, see you later!)
"Hardly. I'm just a friendly alien, Melanie." the Doctor grinned. "I've been placed you could only dream of. E-Space, Caerdroia, the Antiverse, planets like you wouldn't believe. And eras, oh, like World War Two? My best friend, she was a self-proclaimed Edwardian Adventuress…. never mind her, though, I'd rather not… I mean… sorry."
"So, let's say I do believe that you're an alien. No offence, but you look pretty normal at first glance. Maybe not when it comes to socializing, but you could pass as a person with something like ADD, maybe." Melanie sighs, and thinks of a quick excuse to leave. She didn't want to be mean, and she liked this man, but he comes off as a little weird to her. "You could tell me your stories another time, but for now, I have to head home, or my mom would kill me." Melanie stands and puts a $20 partially under her plate that held her half-eaten meal. "I think that should pay for your drink, too." Melanie smiles. "And thank you for talking with me."
(Don't think I can RP more today)
"Oh, my pleasure, Melanie. Have a safe journey home-" the lights flickered out, and a low growling sounded from outside. "What was that?" the waitress yelped.
(Sorry for the late reply, I had to go get my blood drawn :(. )
(It's fine. It happens at least once in our lives, some more than others. Also, I found out that I can't watch Dr. Who ;-; I was looking forward to that…)
Melanie jumps and holds her fists up quickly. "No, no no no no no! This is just a power outage, uh… from the blizzard outside! Yeah…" Her eyes wander frantically, her mind looking for a rational reason than aliens. If it was a blizzard, then what was the growling? Maybe some animal thought it was in danger and growled at the diner? That'd be too far-fetched.
Wait. That stranger was talking about a mangled body, as if an animal did it. And it was buried under snow, something only a-
"It's some sort of large dog, possibly even a wolf, but we're not known to have any attacks like this." Melanie said to her boothmate urgently.
"No, no, it doesn't sound like a dog." the Doctor shot up and pressed his face to the window. And a gleaming, yellow eye looked back. It roared, a colossal figure rammed the building, making it tremble. "Barricade the doors!" the Doctor ordered, and to his surprise, nobody moved. All were frozen in terror. "I said barricade the doors! Ugh, why must it always be me?" he began to push a large table near the entrance to block the doors.
"Need help?" Melanie asks, but she doesn't listen for an answer. She helps the man push the table to the entrance and guides citizens to the back of the diner. "Hey, you know how I kind of don't believe you? You're sounding a lot more reliable now!" Melanie says as she pushes another table. "What the hell is that?"
"No idea. Although, I have the assurance that it's big, hostile, and has a lot of teeth. We may have-" he grunted as he gave the table a final push, then began to stack up chairs, "we may have discovered a new species, actually. It's entirely possible." he shrugged.
"Well, that's just great, isn't it? A new, human-eating thing trying to kill us!" Melanie grunted, hoisting chairs over her shoulder to stack on the table. Melanie chuckles slightly, "I still doubt whether my parents would care or not if I died. Kind of sad." Melanie looked around. "Any other recommendations to allow us to live another day?"
"Well, staying calm for a start. I don't think whatever it is will get in any time soon. Now, it looks like we'll be trapped here for a little while, so let's scan the place for it's most vulnerable points, make sure the others here are alright, see if we can get them to help." the Doctor said.
"Well, first, I am calm, I may be having an adrenaline rush, but I'm as calm as I can be. As for everyone else, I don't know if we can rely on them. I have a feeling that we're probably the only two in this building that has ever seen death before. I don't know if there's a back entrance or not, but it's wise to stay away from windows, and, of course, every diner has windows." Melanie sputtered frantically. "Are we gonna try to ride this out, or are we going into the offense? Actually, wait, no. Not with scared-to-death civilians here. But how are we supposed to ride this out? Whatever that is, it probably has way more brute strength than either of us!"
"I'm aware, that's why I told you to stay calm. And I think that humans are generally more reliable than you'd think." the Doctor said. He walked over to the others, a group composed of the three new arrivals, a trucker, a waitress, and the blonde sitting at the bar. "As of the moment, I'm a bit confused as to what has been happening, and I'm sure you are too. We're just going to wait this out, I'll get everyone out safely. I promise."
Melanie follows him and whispers, "How are we supposed to wait this out? Out of the…many fights I've been in, there's been nothing like…like this." Melanie gestures to the barricaded door, hearing the growling of the fiend.
"We're going to do it all the same. I've been through worse." the Doctor hissed in reply.
Melanie gawks. "Worse? Please! When I said 'nothing like this,' I meant that I've never gone up against an unknown creature-thing. You have no idea how…how unfair life can be to a person like me, and yet I still at least try! Hell, if it were me, I'd probably fight it or die trying." Melanie's voice dropped, and she looked down. "And why should I believe a man who knows more about me than what I'd care to admit than what I know about him? If I were someone else, I'd accuse you of being a stalker, you being a careful observer and all. Just-" Melanie looks up with a determined face. "Promise me you'll explain things to me after this, no matter how unbelievable it may sound, and I'll do as you say, at least until this conundrum ends."
"I can't explain anything to you, I can't tell you anything. Telling you my name would be enough reason for them to erase you from history. You need to forget me after all of this is over." the Doctor said.
Melanie stares at him. "Someone I knew told me I was as stubborn as a mule. I don't know, or really care, what 'erase you from history' means, but goddammit, how am I supposed to live-if I even survive this-without knowing what the absolute hell is happening here!?" She was screaming now, and her eyes widen. "I-I'm sorry I yelled. You probably have a good reason to not tell me, probably something beyond my understanding. So I'll try to forget this if I survive. I may not return to this diner without being cautious, but I'll get over it." She walks to the front of the diner with a peaceful look on her face, and she thinks about what to do next.
