Lucas looked at her innocently.
“Like what?” He tilted his head. “You’ve got something in mind?”
Lucas looked at her innocently.
“Like what?” He tilted his head. “You’ve got something in mind?”
Ashley shrugged and pulled her phone out before standing. “Dance with me, boyfriend,” she asked softly, smiling over at him as she pressed play on a slow song.
Lucas hesitated.
“Can we do something else?” He asked hesitantly. “I’m not really in the mood to dance?”
Ashley’s eyebrows furrowed and she pressed pause on the music. Lucas not in the mood to dance? That was practically unheard of…
“What’s wrong?” she asked gently, making her way to his side.
Lucas winced, remembering what happened not a few days ago.
“Nothing,” he answered way too quickly. “I just feel like doing something else.”
“Babe… I can tell something is bothering you. Since when does Lucas McArthur not want to dance?” Ashley questioned, worry in her eyes. “Please, Lucas… Tell me what’s wrong…”
Lucas sighed, setting his pencil down on the desk.
“I got kicked out of the team,” he said rather bitterly. “Even before the rounds started to select candidates.”
Oh, no…
“Can… Can I ask why?” Ashley whispered, wanting desperately to reach out and take his hand but unsure if he wanted her to right then.
Lucas sighed.
“It was my fault,” he said. “We were supposed to train the new kids and they were doing everything wrong and not taking anything seriously, so I blew up on them.”
“Oh… I’m sorry, babe,” Ashley said softly, finally giving in and taking his hand gently. “Maybe… Maybe you can ask for a secon chance?”
“No,” he sighed, leaning back and squeezing her hand. “They’ve already planned everything out. They picked Vanessa already, too.”
“I’m sorry, babe,” Ashley sighed, bringing his hand to her lips and pressing a light kiss to the back of it. “But there will be another opportunity. I’m sure of it.”
“Well, whatever,” Lucas sighed. “It wasn’t a very big deal, either.”
“That’s not what it sounds like to me. You’re upset about this. It’s obviously a big deal,” Ashley said softly.
"Well, what can I even do about it?" he muttered. "There's nothing I can do to get my position back."
Ashley sighed and shook her head. “I don’t know, Lucas… But I do still think you could use a break…”
Lucas sighed.
"Well, what do you want to do?" he questioned. "Wanna play cards? Uno? Ludo?"
“I suck at Ludo and you know it,” Ashley laughed. “Sure, let’s play Uno.”
Lucas shrugged.
"The only person I can win against is you, so…" he smirked at her before laughing. "Right, you wanna get the cards or should I?"
Ashley scoffed and stuck her tongue out at him. “I’ll grab them. You go get comfortable on the couch.”
"All right," Lucas stood up and tossed himself over the couch.
Ashley chuckled as she walked over to get the deck of cards. She grabbed the box, then made her way back to the living room, where she sat beside Lucas.
“Ready?” she asked as she pulled the cards out.
"Ready to take you down?" Lucas smirked. "Definitely!"
(Skip Five Minutes:)
"What? Oh, come on!" Lucas stared at the swap card on the deck and then at his cards, which were two. "You can't do that, Ash! I was winning!"
Ashley laughed lightly and played her last card. “Sorry, babe. Maybe you shouldn’t have been so boastful earlier about winning.”
Lucas grumbled.
"Well, let's play it again. I'll beat you this time!"
