Ae-Ri’s POV
“Winn?” She scrambled off the couch and to her feet, hands balled into fists—but there was no danger present. Pasithea was nowhere to be seen.
“What—What happened?”
Ae-Ri’s POV
“Winn?” She scrambled off the couch and to her feet, hands balled into fists—but there was no danger present. Pasithea was nowhere to be seen.
“What—What happened?”
Winston's POV
“We’re at my apartment. You missed the shot and passed out. Pasithea got away. Since Opal’s isn’t safe, I carried you here. Opal is asleep still. I uh… I hope you’re okay with pancakes for breakfast.” Winston summarized, skillfully flipping a pancake in the pan with a smile.
Opals POV
Opal slowly drifted awake. She didn’t remember where she was at first, and then she slowly remembered the events that had transpired the night before. They had come back to Winston’s because it was close. Then she remembered what she’d said to Pasithea, and what Pasithea had said back. A blush was creeping its way through her cheeks when she remembered what had happened to Ae-Ri. Darting up she looked around around for her before seeing her talking to Winston, who looked like he was showing off his pancake skills. “Ae-Ri, are you alright? Do you have a headache?” She asked, concerned.
Ae-Ri’s POV
“Goddammit,” Ae-Ri growled, swinging her fists through the air. “We were so close. So close. And she got away, because I passed out.” Frustrated and clearly angry with herself, she bit back several curses and a harsh reprimand for Opal.
Winston watched Ae-Ri out of the corner of his eye, placing the pancakes he had cooked into a stack. “Y’all need to eat. We have a long day ahead.” He changed the topic quietly, feeling his heart race with an onset of sudden anxiety, Stop being nervous, coward. There’s nothing even wrong and you’re panicking. He mentally reprimanded himself.
Ae-Ri shot Opal a look that clearly hinted at a nice little conversation when Winston was out of earshot. Gritting her teeth, she tried to calm herself down, suddenly realizing that she was still in costume.
“Thanks for breakfast, Winn,” she finally forced out, exhaling shakily. “Has anyone from Mission Control dropped by?”
OpalsPOV
Opal stayed quiet as she read Ae-Ri’s glance, she dosing need telepathy to know what that meant. She was going to get a talking to, but what for, not being able to help them, or practically helping Pasithea. She Shook her head to herself, wondering how badly she messed up.
Winston’s POV
“My Ma said someone came around earlier. Said we gotta be down to headquarters by 10:30. I… I’m actually sorta nervous about it. They want me in a different room than y’all.” Winnie scratched at the back of his neck and began to tap his fingernails on the counter, ignoring the food in front of him.
Alecs POV
Alec was woken up to the sounds of a very loud bird. “Hey, tweedy bird, zip it!” He called to the bird, “Some people are trying to sleep.” The bird gave him a small look, and kept on chirping. He sighed in defeat, and got up, and looked around and finding a box of unopened pop tarts. “Well, bone apple teeth to me.” He said, taking one out and warming it with his electricity. Once he finished it he got up and walked out of his ‘home’. He had to go case a new bank, but not before giving the bird, the bird.
Opals POV
Opal was nervous about the debriefing, what was going to happen if they found her guilty of aiding and abetting Pasithea?
Ae-Ri nodded and unzipped the sides of her suit, stepping out and discarding it on the arm of the couch. Naturally, she was wearing clothes beneath it, but not her usual punk-like attire. Instead of a leather jacket and ripped jeans, she wore simple black leggings and an EXO t-shirt. That, plus the fact that her face was bare of any eyeliner, made her look a little….. softer. More human. Less terrifying.
“Y’all think they’ll kick me out?” Winnie asked suddenly, looking worriedly in between the two girls. “I never showed ‘em the talent they wanted. I ain’t got what it takes. I— I think they saw me last night and don’t wanna have that liability.” He began to chew on his fingernails, trying to hold back the fear pulsing through his veins.
“Y’all still come around to visit, right? Even if they boot me?” He added quietly, lowering his gaze to the squeaky floor.
Ae-Ri thawed almost immediately. The harsh, frustrated demeanour slipped off her shoulders like a discarded cloak as she came forward to envelop the stricken teen in a hug. "Hey, you'll be fine. They're not going to kick you, plenty of the supers here had anxiety issues when they started out. Some still do." Though her tone was flat and hard, it was clear from both her word choice and her actions that she was trying her hardest to comfort him, despite the walls she'd built around her heart.
Opals POV
Opal looked over to Winston,That’s right she thought, I can still help him She reached over to hug him with Ae-Ri, “Always. I won’t ever leave you.” … because I need you as much as you need me.
Winston’s POV
“Thanks.” Winston wrapped his arms around the two girls, comforted by their support. He released them several moment later, taking a deep breath. “Still doesn’t explain why they want me away from y’all.”
"They might want to suggest you take some other training courses," Ae-Ri offered, shaking out her tousled bedhead. "Or they might be offering you a mission with someone other than us. It'll be fine."
*If anything, Opal might be in more trouble than you are…."
She cleared her throat, adding an afterthought. "Also, not a word about Opal's interaction with Pasithea. Alright? Mission Control can't find out."
Opals POV
Opal winced at Ae-Ri’s words, yup, I’m in trouble, “We’ll always be there, even if something happens, and it may not even be a bad thing.” She said, hoping to lift his spirits. “It could just be that they want to get your side of the story separate.”
Winston’s POV
“They’re gonna interrogate me?” Winnie looked horrified at the thought of this. “It’s almost time to go too… Can y’all say I’m sick? I don’t wanna go.” He protested quickly, eyeing the clock.
Ae-Ri's POV
"You'll be fine," Ae-Ri repeated, gesturing towards the pancakes, which were beginning to burn. "I'll whoop the ass of anyone who hurts you. And it wouldn't be an interrogation, just a…..questioning. That's all."
Opals POV
Opal let a small smile tease her lips, she could help him here” Yes she’s right,” she referenced to Ae-Ri, “ Not interrogate, debrief. You’re going to be okay.” She said smiling softly.
Alec’s POV
Walking down the street from a big bank, humming easy street.
Winston’s POV
Winston quickly took the extra burnt pancakes off the stove, shutting it off as well. “Listen for me?” He looked at Opal, hoping the girl would keep tab on his thoughts. “If something bad happens, you’ll come?”
OPALS POV
Opal put her hand on his forearm reassuringly, and gave him a honest smile, ”I’ll be there as fast as I can.”
Ae-Ri's POV
Ae-Ri shifted, slightly awkward from the overload of emotions. She preferred to keep things simple, easy to stomach and understand. Too many feelings only complicated the mix.
Suddenly, a thought struck her. "Shit. Where's Flicker? Did he—it—come back with you guys after I passed out?"
Winston’s POV
“Thanks, Opal.” Winston allowed himself to relax a little. “I didn’t see it, but I was also carrying you.” He replied unhelpfully, feeling guilty that he hadn’t thought about the little creature.
Opals POV
Opal thought back, but couldn’t remember grabbing the drone. “No, I’m sorry, I didn’t grab it either, I lost track of it before you were knocked out.”
Alec’s POV
Alec was running from a pair of junkyard dogs. He had been at the junkyard to replenish his satchel. He was now sing-running, Who let the dogs out?
