“Oh. Do you not have to sleep?” He asked softly, watching her carefully. “Do I not have to sleep?!” He asked, suddenly shocked. “But I felt so tired…”
“Oh. Do you not have to sleep?” He asked softly, watching her carefully. “Do I not have to sleep?!” He asked, suddenly shocked. “But I felt so tired…”
(Awww, the funny word changes are gone.)
"Well you don't have too, but it still helps." She tapped the bags under her eyes. Most Reapers had them, there where very few that could still get a good night's rest. "Considering you're still in the human mind set of the living," she cringed at the word, "you probably still need sleep."
(Now I’m sad. I loved them. They were funny)
He nodded gently. “I still feel living. It’s strange.” He murmured, rubbing at his face. “I can still feel and see and hear… it’s strange. I lost my body but it still feels like that I’m in it.”
"Its your spirit body," Ember shrugged not really knowing how to explain it. But she didn't really try to explain either.
(Okay so I have this idea. It'll make the RP longer though so Idk if you wanted that to happen.)
“It’s a spirit body? What does that mean?” He asked softly, tilting his head.
(Ooo go ahead, I’d love to hear what you have to say! I don’t mind a longer rp)
Ember shrugged again, "like it's your body as a spirit. You have your mortal body, and then this one. The one that houses your soul." She tried to think of a better way to explain it but came up with nothing.
(Basically before they get to the gates of the after life they're gonna get zapped back to the human realm and they will be living again. Idk if that makes sense.)
"Oh. Like a container for my soul. And once this one is gone I'll be gone to, right?" He leaned back on the bed, sighing softly and falling silent for a moment.
"You have a body too. Were you hurt at all by those creatures? I can help with the wounds, I've taken a few classes on things like how to help someone who's injured and stuff. I wanted to be a doctor at first."
(Oh that does make sense! That would actually be really cool!! I say we go for it!)
Ember nodded her head in agreement. If she was being completely honest, Jamie would have made a good reaper. But she was glad he hadn't had a violent death. No one deserved it.
"Well it's mostly healed by now," she pulled up her shirt just enough to prove her point. The claw marks where nothing more then long angry red marks now. It hadn't taken to long to heal, and of course she healed quickly in the reaper realm, but she could swear she could still feel the blood.
"What kind of doctor?" She leaned back on her hands. The nightmare becoming a distant thought. Talking with Jamie was calming.
“That’s good. You need to be more careful out there. Bring a second weapon if you’re allowed to. A small knife or something. Those things were mean.” He laughed, shaking his head at the memory. “I think I killed one. At least injured it.”
He hummed, smiling over at his reaper friend. “What kind? I wanted to be a nurse actually. A male nurse, to be exact. Yes I know it’s not the same as a doctor but I’ve always wanted to be an assistant and help out. And I wanted to work with other’s, one-on-one. A nurse does that more often than a doctor.”
"I'll ask the council about it." Not many Reapers needed a second weapon. But then again, not many Reapers where known to chuck their scythes to a soul.
Not that a small knife would do much damage against a crawler, but a weapon was a weapon.
"It looked pretty dead when I passed it up. But I wouldn't trust it. Even if you think you've killed a crawler, always keep running." Ember chewed on her lip, a dark shadow seeming to pass over her. But it quickly passed.
"Oh a nurse? That sounds like fun." As a young Reaper Ember had worked a hospital. She'd seen nurse's in action, they interested her.
“Good. I might not be able to hold you to it but I’m taking your word.” He laughed softly, smiling brightly for what felt like the first time in a really long time.
He didn’t comment on the crawler part, wishingtk push that experience back and out of his head. It wasn’t pleasant. “I hoped it would be. But I was starting to have my doubts. I’m not sure what I wanted to do.”
"Well I'm sure you would have made a great nurse. You're good at keeping your cool." Ember offered a smile.
The sun had began to rise, making the reaper realm look almost inviting. That is if you didn't know what was out there. Ember looked out the small window in the room, her smile growing. She opened her mouth to say something but just as she did there was a knock at the door. Her eyes slid to Jamie, confusion written on her face. "Expecting someone?" She joked before going to answer the door.
“Thank you, thats very kind.” He smiled back, relaxing into his position with a soft and relaxed sigh.
He liked the sunlight that poured in through the window. It was inviting and made his whole situation seem less bleak and strange.
Jamie was almost annoyed when the knock sounded. He shoved his emotions down and laughed at her joke. “Not really, no.”
Ember answered the door, and when she saw who it was, she practically shouted his name. "Teddy!" She threw her arms around the man. Of course Teddy wasn't his real name. It was a nick name Ember had given him.
Theodore was a tall, rounded man. His brown hair shaggy, and his beard even more so. He and Ember had been friends ever since she became a Reaper. "I heard you where in town," He said in a gruff voice, "I just had to come check up on ya'." His eyes slid to Jamie. "And you must be the current Soul." He gave a warm smile.
"Jamie this is Teddy." Ember stepped back to let Theodore in.
Jamie smiled at the warmth the stranger had received. The man knew Ember, and well by the way she reacted, so Jamie felt safe. He stood and made his way closer to Teddy.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you Teddy.” He said politely as he held out his hand. “I am the current soul, it’s been a little crazy.”
Ember groaned, "a little is an understatement."
Theodore let out a deep laugh, shaking Jamie's hand. "I'm sure it has been." He turned his attention back to Ember, "I don't mean to butt in, but the Counsel needs you for something." His smile didn't waver. But Ember understood.
She nodded her head and gave Jamie a smile. "Why don't you guys get to know each Other then. I'll Meet you at the waffle house in a few. You good with that Jamie?"
Jamie tilted his head at Ember as the two spoke. “That is alright. Take your time. The Council sounds important.” He sat back down on the bed, sighing softly.
This whole thing was a little overwhelming.
As soon as Ember left Theodore's expression turned urgent. "Have you been approached by anyone strange?" The counsel would fill Ember in. But knowing her, she wouldn't tell Jamie.
“Strange? Well, so far everyone has been rather strange but yes. There was someone who offered me some sort of help or aid when I needed it or something like that… They said they were a friend.” He murmured, tilting his head.
"They didn't offer to take you anywhere?" Theodore didn't want to freak Jamie out- but there was something strange going on in the Reapers realm that no one could explain. "Didn't say he was going anywhere? Did you get a good look at their face?"
Ember had been ecstatic to see Teddy again. With Deaths always coming in, it seemed they never had a spare moment to just hang out. She hopped they'd get some time at the waffle house, but her hopes would in vain.
Before she'd even made it half way to the counsel, a stranger stepped into her path. At first glance she'd have thought him to be a fellow Reaper. Dark clothes, horrible bags under the eyes. But there was something off- "care if I join you?" His voice was soothing, kind sounding. To kind.
"Depends, where are you going?" She wished she hadn't left her Scythe back at the hotel-
A grin came to the strangers handsome face. "The same as you."
His voice tugged at Embers memories, she had heard him say that line before- a very long time ago.
Jamie shook his head. He really couldn’t remember anything. “I had just been attacked. I didnt get a good look. It was a male I believe.”
Theodore sighed, "perhaps it was just a friendly someone." His smile returned to his lips once again. Whatever urgent look simply vanishing from his face.
"So the waffle house right? I'm sure Ember should be back soon. We should start heading over."
Ember stumbled a few steps. Whatever feeling of peace she'd had that morning with Jamie destroyed by her sudden panic. What had just happened? The last she remembered she had been talking to a stranger when- well she didn't know. That was as far as the memory went.
She'd had just been in the Reapers Realm- but now? Ember hadn't the faintest idea where she was. The Realm of the Living, heaven, one of the nine circles of Hell?
“I hope. I wouldn’t want to end up dead twice.” He grumbled, rubbing at his face. Teddy’s smile helped him relax a little. The older man seemed to understand what was going on well.
“Yes, the Waffle House. It’d be good to start.” Jamie took his time in standing up, stretching out his arms as he joined Teddy. “How long have you been here?”
"In the town, I arrived this morning. In the Realm, Its hard to keep track of the years…but much longer than Ember. She's so young for a Reaper." Theodore added the last part more to himself. "I'm glad she got a soul close in age. With that alleyway of hers she gets much older souls. You two been getting along well?"
“She is young. I guess it just proves life doesn’t spare anyone.” Jamie murmured, rubbing at the scar that marked him as dead. “Alleyway? Yeah… we’ve been getting along well. We’ve talked about some pretty deep things but I guess when you die you have the want to do that. Are all Reapers like Ember?”
