Jamie’s eyes widened at the revelation. It made sense in his brain. He took one look at the alleyway he was just about to enter before he turned to follow Ember, grinning brightly at her.
“Pancakes sound amazing, I’d love to Ember. How does this next Tuesday sound?” He asked her softly, looking up as the door swung open. It felt so familiar, so warm. The dull ache in his chest had settled into something that felt like reassurance that everything was okay, that whoever Ember was she was an old friend. It made him chuckle to himself.
“I’ll see you around, Ember! Good luck with the bad date situation,” he called back in amusement, laughing softly as he turned to his own door and unlocked it with his key. He could do his homework here tonight. That wouldn’t be so bad.
Jamie would have been more grateful towards Fate and the grim reaper had he known what they had done for him and Ember.
The meeting had deterred him from the usual route he took, giving him the small amount of time he would have needed to miss the fatal mugging that would have killed him.
No Audric, no death, no murder, and no misunderstandings that could lead to the permanent loss of a soul.
A perfect ending that leads towards a new beginning, if one could so boldly claim.
