The Reaper boredly watched the human walking to their unknown demise. The allyway dark, and the only light coming from the sliver of moon high in the night sky.
A rat scutted by, earning a look of disgust from the Reaper. A moment of distraction, and before she could look up again the shouts erupted. She sighed deeply, breathing in the sour smell of the alleyway, and walked to where the shouts came from. A few vagrants here and there, but none looked at her.
Only the dead and dying could see a reaper. See Death as it came to claim them. But that was the title of the Grim Reaper. Not hers, she was just a reaper. Plain and boring.

Jamie was positively shocked. He couldn’t remember what had just happened in the last few moments. It was all just a blur that drew a deep panic into his stomach.

One moment he had been fine and then the next…? Pain, and a lot of it, before a strange calm. He stared down at his hands, flexing his fingers. They seemed to be still working.

But if they were his and he was him, then who’s body was the one that laid in front of him. The body shared his face. But he was right here, he swore he was. The blood around the body definitely wasn’t his. It couldn’t be.

The Reaper made her way to Jamie, careful of not stepping on any trash. Her hands where stuffed in the pockets of her black hoodie, a wicked looking scyth slung across her back. "Its dangerous to be in an alleyway this late at night, alone."
Her bright green eyes narrowed twords the human, waiting for the eruption of panic, questions, the tears and pleas to let him stay.
"You look a bit pale, are you okay?" Never mind the fact that this human had just died, and had yet to fully realize that. Her humour, after all, was a bit twisted like that.

His eyes locked onto her’s and in his moment of panic, he forgot how to speak. His stormy gray eyes traveled back to the body then to his hands. This wasn’t processing fast enough.

“I-I’ve always gone this time of night… I’ve never been touched. I don’t understand what happened. What’s going on…?” He didn’t wait for answers before he moved to the body and dropped to his knees to study the face.

There was something unsettling about seeing the paled, dead face of yourself staring blankly back at you. It wasn’t right. “I’m… not okay…”

@Dirt

The Reaper dropped to a crouch beside him, her hands not leaving her pockets. She offered no comfort to Jamie, and no words. Letting it just sink in always seemed to be the best. Letting them watch as the blood pooled. The realization that he'd died would hit him soon enough.

A few minutes had passed before The reaper finally groaned and stood. "Come on, time to go." There was no sympathy in her voice. She pushed her wild red hair from her face, and extended a hand to Jamie. That look of boredom returning to her face.

"Unless you'd rather stay here forever? Doesn't effect me either way." Her hand stayed extended. Those bright green eyes still narrowed.

@Toxic_Persephone group

Jamie shuddered, looking rather lost. Usually he was bright and confident, but this was a situation he didn’t understand. Not quite.

When the Reaper stood and spoke, he blinked. “Go where? Stay here?” He took a step towards her before freezing when his eyes landed on the weapon at her back. His mouth formed a soft ‘oh’ before the panic set back in.

“Am I dead!?”

@Dirt

Bingo, The Reaper didn't answer his first two questions. And only answered the last one with a smile. Her hand stayed extended, awaiting his. Her eyes now longer narrowed at him, but much rather full of mischief. "You might want to take my hand before, they get here." And as if in answer to what the Reaper had said, a low snarl could be heard.

Something that didn't sound quiet human. Something that feasted on the dead souls if the Reaper wasn't fast enough. And if the Reaper was unlucky, they'd feast on her too. "Dying twice doesn't sound very fun to me, and frankly, I don't want the death one of those *things offer." Her out stretched hand started to pull back, and she looked as if she was ready to bolt.

@Toxic_Persephone group

In a moment of pure instinct, Jamie grabbed her hand. “Alright! I don’t want to die twice! Please just get me away from here!” He cried out, looking like he was close to a mental breakdown at any second.

@Dirt

(YEET)

the second Jamie took the Reapers hand the world around them seemed to change. The night sky becoming a duller shade. Buildings turing into dead and dying trees. And the only real pop of color seemed to be the Reapers frizzy red hair. "Safe and sound." She offered a smile, trying to calm the Soul.

The dulling of his surroundings left a deep pit in his stomach. This all had to be some kind of dream or a sick prank, right? He had just died. But every time he had taken that path he had never been harmed. Obviously this was all some kind of wrongful doing and he'd wake up sometime tomorrow to be ready for work. He would let his roommates know he was going out and they'd tell him not to be dumb like always… right?

Pure panic was now coursing through the Soul's nonexistent body. He was hyperventilating, clawing at his throat. He was dead. "This can't be happening… this isn't right… those sounds were just dogs… They're the neighbors dogs. I'm still alive. This is all a dream. I'll wake up. I'll wake up and go to work and continue everything I've always done…" He gasped, dropping to his knees as she spoke. "I don't want to be dead… I didn't ever get to do what I wanted."

@Dirt

This wasn't the first time she'd seen someone totally freak out iver being dead. His words where the same as everyone else. But this was happening, it was real, Jamie had died. And just like every other soul she had taken to the after life, this wasnt a mistake.
Everyone from the money they had been born had a clock. It counted down to their moment of death. The same thing had happened to her years ago. But the only difference had been that she had expected her death. She'd seen it coming days before it even happened.

"Breath," The Reaper ordered, her eyes softening. It wasn't often she felt pity for a soul- bust this one. "There's plenty of time in the after life to do whatever you want."

@Toxic_Persephone group

“The after…?” He hugged his knees to his chest, taking in a trembling breath. It didn’t do any good. The panic stuck in his heart like a thorn and refused to let up. “I’m dead how can I do anything!?” He snapped, looking the reaper over a few times. Jamie couldn’t tell what she was thinking.

He sat for a few moments, letting his breath even out and his heart to stop racing before he spoke again. “Is it really safe here…?”

@Dirt

((So some of the RP might get the tiniest bit religious- is it chill if I mention heaven and he'll and all that jazz from time to time?))

The Reaper rolled her eyes, explaining this hundreds of times did get old. But it was part of the job. "You can do anything you want once you make it to the afterlife. Well depending on where you go. If you lived a good life or not."

"Here? Specificly this spot? Absolutely not. The path to the after life is full of trails, and crawlers, and shadows. So, unless you want your soul to be completely destroyed, I do suggest we get moving. There is a check point a few miles from here, and if we're lucky we'll make it there and get to rest without worry."

@Toxic_Persephone group

(Yeah go ahead, that’s alright! Also sorry for the wait. I had a lot of laundry to do)

“This isn’t the afterlife?” He asked, standing slowly. His knees felt weak, they nearly didn’t hold him up. He wasn’t worried about going to hell or whatever was for sinners and bad people here.

“Take me to the afterlife… please. This is beyond what I know…”

@Dirt

((I wish I could blame my disappearance on my laundry- but I can't. Anyway! Sorry about falling off the face of the earth again. 💀))

The Reaper shook her head to his question. "Its a path." She felt like a broken record repeating herself so much. But sometimes that's what people needed for the point to get across.
"And there's no need to be so scared." Well there was. But Jackie didn't need to know that, And Ember wasn't going to tell him unless she absolutely had to.

@Toxic_Persephone group

(You're okay. I understand the dropping off the face of the earth. I might have to do that soon. I'm going crazy.)

Jamie nodded hesitantly before he made a step down the path. "H-How long does it take to get there?" He asked hoarsely, nearly clinging onto her.

@Dirt

(your mental health first! Take a brake if you need. Rest thy selfffff. Also I just realised I said Jackie instead of Jamie. 💀)

"Depending on your life choices, it shouldn't be to long." Unless of course the Jamie was an awful person- But Ember didn't think that's how it was. She'd lived a pretty crapy life and here she was, years later still paying it off.
"Best not waste anymore time. Like I said, there's a check point up ahead." She attempted to offer a smile. The last few souls she'd helped had been totally accepting, so it seemed she was out of practice with the more jumpy ones.

@Toxic_Persephone group

(Thanks, I'll do that for sure. sorry for the wait btw, had a panic attack. We okay now tho. and that's okay! Don't worry about it)

Jamie nodded again. Of course it wasn't really anyone's fault he was so hard to deal with other than his own. He had died so quickly he almost hadn't realized he was dead. In fact he was still certain this was all a fever dream or some coma dream.

He smiled awkwardly back at her and started down the path this time, tilting his head.
