"Definitely I think we should a lot. I don't want my roommate to be completely deprived of human interaction. We should hang out at least once every day unless one or the other really doesn't want to" Eugene was honestly glad to start talking and hanging out with his roommate, he even wished they had before the whole pandemic started. Better late than never he supposed.
"And there's plenty more baked goods where those came from. I'm probably gonna stress-bake something tomorrow and we're not gonna have any space for anything else besides what I bake… and speaking of baking and hanging out, do ya want to learn to bake something with me?"
Once every day sounded like a dream. Jay had to bite into his cupcake to keep from smiling too much like the idiot he was.
“You have no idea how much I would love that. Once everyday it is. Just be warned, you’ve sealed a deal with a demon who has attachment issues.” He joked, laughing happily. He slid all the way onto his back, looking up the other and humming happily.
“Could we really!? I’ve never baked before. It looks interesting. I’d like to at least try to make something.” He flashed one of his famous grins, letting his eyes travel across Eugenes form.
“So… this might be awkward but… I overheard you telling someone about tattoos… do you have any?”
Eugene's smile grew, he was very happy to have a friend. Once he gets a friend, or significant other, he gets pretty affectionate. Not necessarily being love-type affection. He's a more physical person, hugging, high-fiving, leaning against, and just being more touchy with people in general. That sometimes scares off people, it more scares off friends since they seem to be too straight for friendly hugs. "You're the one that should be warned, I'm overly affectionate to anyone and everyone I'm friends with. So, sorry in advance." He took a bite of his cupcake before looking back at Jay.
"Oh it's not awkward at all. I have two- well three- tattoos and I love them very very much. I can show you if you'd like to see them!" Gene loved showing people his tattoos and he loved talking about them. He was already rolling up his sleeve to show the one on his wrist.
Jay only chuckled at Eugenes warning. “Trust me when I say that I’m most definitely going to enjoy that. Welcome to being touch starved.” He winked, grabbing one of his pillows and hugging it to his chest.
“Oh yes! I’d love to see. I’ve been thinking of getting one. But I’m hesitant to because I’m not sure what I want to get.” He slid a little closer to Eugene, eyeing the ink he could see on the other’s wrist.
"Perfect, we're obviously going to get along well." Out of habit, Eugene winked back. His dad had winked at him at random times, Gene would wink back. It was like thier little secret communication. He finished his second cupcake and threw the wrapper into the container again. Instead of grabbing another one, he curled his knees to his chest.
He wiggled a little in excitement. He showed Jay the tattoo on his wrist. "So this is just showing my love of baking and cooking, I just had to get one for that. Then the other two," Gene pulled down on the collar of his shirt to show his collarbones. "I got them together. My grandma had a koi fish pond, and I just find the fish adorable."
Jay bit his lip, hiding his face in his pillow. Making friends was exciting. Especially if you lived with them.
He listened intently to Eugene, leaning forwards to study the two koi on his collarbones. “Koi are really pretty. The only pet I’ve ever really had was my brother’s pet snake. I hate snakes. They’re just so… creepy. They move without legs and I don’t like that.” He shivered, reaching out as if he were about to touch the tattoos. He stopped himself.
“Ah, c-can I feel? Does the ink make your skin feel different…?”
Eugene laughed softly, nodding. Jay's description was kind of funny, but very true. "Yes, you definitely can. But I'm not sure, if it does I forgot. I'm so used to having them there that I forgot how my skin was before." He hummed, keeping ahold of his collar. "I've never had a pet myself, my sister is allergic to fur and my dad didn't really want any pets or animals in the house anyway."
Jay’s fingertips brushed across the colored skin, his eyes softening. “I can’t really tell. I think it’s the same.” He laughed softly, looking up at Eugene and giving him an awkward smile.
“I’ve always wanted something weird like hermit crabs or a scorpion or something. As a little kid I thought that would be so cool. Now I’m old and all I want is a companion. So maybe a dog would be best.” He laughed at himself, tracing the lines of the Koi tattoo.
A very small shudder went down his spine. He didn't make a big deal about it though because he actually liked the feel of Jay's fingers on his skin. Gene would never admit it to himself, but he like it anyway. "Yeah that makes sense. It doesn't seem like it would do much."
"Ah you're not that old, literally you're so young." Eugene smiled, relaxed by Jay's tracing of his tattoos. "It's ingrained in my head not to have a pet so either it'll take a really long time before I get one or I'll never have one. Or my partner will get/have one already."
“Your partner’s gunna be a lucky person.” He teased, running his fingers along the other’s collarbone before he tucked his arm back against his chest, grinning as he finally finished off his second cupcake. “I mean, you’ve got some pretty defined features there.”
Jay beamed, tucking himself against the pillow he was cuddling and grinning widely. “I’m sure they’ll introduce you to a pet. Most people nowadays have at least a dog.”
Gene smiled shyly, burying his face into his knees once Jay retracted his hand. He was shy when it came to compliments, although he greatly appreciated them. Not knowing what else to do or say, he nodded a little and lifted his head, smiling.
"I would assume so, it seems that people can't go too long without a pet," Eugene said softly, turning his head to look at Jay again.
Jay giggled softly, lifting his arms and letting them fall across his eyes. "Pets are fun - Unless they're snakes - because they're just like a little friend, you know?" He grinned, sighing happily. "And friends are essential. They're the best thing you could have, to feel so loved by them is so special."
He paused, removing his arms so he could look over at Eugene. "Which is why I really don't like this quarantine. I can't give my friends the love they deserve." Jay pouted cutely, rolling over onto his stomach and groaning as he felt his back pop.
"Yeah, I'm feeling that too. Quarantine sucks ass. I never knew I'd miss people this much. I always joke that I'd be fine if I was forever alone, but this is proving just the opposite. But hey, at least we have each other now, yeah?" Eugene smiled at Jay, finding his pout almost adorable.
He leaned his head against the wall. "So, what else do we need to know about each other to kick-off the friendship?"
“Mmhm! We have each other! That’s all we really need right now. Can’t really invite anyone else over. I mean we could, but it might not be a good idea.” He mused.
The question threw him a little off guard. He tilted his head as he thought, then suddenly sat up straight, searching for his sketchbook.
“Oh! Well, you might already know this but I do art! All sorts of things. I like drawing with pencil and paper the most, though.”
"Oh yeah, you briefly mentioned it before. Could I see some of your stuff?" Gene asked, watching Jay look for his sketchbook. "Somehow, art on paper is hard for me, but decorating cakes and cupcakes is relaxing and easy-ish."
“Oh, of course!” He finally managed to find his current sketchbook, but hesitated. He didn’t have anything weird or any failed pieces in here did he…? He used Eugene’s words as an excuse to stall while he flipped through it.
“I think it had something to do with the 3-D versus 2-D thinking. With decorating a cake you’re creating something that’s 3-D completely. Like a sculpture. You’re spacial observation is different than mine. Meaning, you see space differently than I do. This page is 2-D, and so I have to think differently about the space I’m given.” He explained, hoping he wasn’t rambling.
“Here, Sorry there might be some… not very good drawings in there. I’m not the best.” He sheepishly murmured as he handed the sketch book over, biting his lip.
Eugene nodded, "Yeah, that makes sense, I can see that." He mumbled, opening Jay's sketchbook to the first page. He slowly flipped through some pages, admiring each picture with a soft smile on his lips. "Oh man, these are really good! Oh and it's totally okay if there are some "not good" drawings, you should see some of my decorating fails… they're bad."
Jay started scratching at his head - an anxiety tic that hadn’t left him yet. Most of the drawings were of people, mainly men, and were partially colored. Every now and then some random drawing of a bird or some object would appear, some distorted and others looking rather good. Jay still doubted himself.
“I’m sure all decorating you’ve done looked amazing.”
"Ah… definitely not all of it. We gotta start somewhere and sometimes when you start it's all just trash." Gene said softly as he continued looking through the sketchbook. Each drawing seemed amazing in his eyes, but he wasn't a paper artist so even more simple things impressed him. "I just have to say… some of these men are really attractive…" He mumbled, pausing for a second longer on one that he thought just that.
Jay had to grin. Eugene was right. It usually was trash at the beginning point. But that didn’t mean he wasn’t embarrassed of it.
“I draw my dream men sometimes…” he admitted, laughing at himself. “This is how I stave off boredom. I draw attractive men and give them personalities and backgrounds and make them my pretend boyfriend because I’m lonely”
"Oh man, I felt that on a spiritual level. Except I can't draw for shit, so I guess that's what Sims is for." Gene giggled quietly as he got to the end of the sketchbook. With a smile, he handed it back to Jay. "Thanks for letting me see your drawings, I think they're all pretty good. I'm easily impressed though so, yeah."
“Oh man I’ve had so many Sim boyfriends, and that was before my Gay Awakening” he took the sketchbook back with a smile, hugging it to his chest. “But then I saw a bunch of other people who were super attractive and realized I was Pan because literally everyone is attractive when you’re unattractive.”
He burst into a small fit of laughter, trying hard to thank the other for his compliment.
"I think mine was when I watched The Hunger Games for the first time. I was too busy staring at Finnik instead of paying attention to the story. I had to watch it multiple times to get the plot. But I was also all over Katniss. And that's how I found out I was Bi." Eugene also giggled. Now he was really wondering why it took this long to get to know his roommate.
"Okay, but when did someone ever say you were unattractive? I don't actually want to know if someone did, but if it did actually happen, they were lying to themselves."
“Finnik is really attractive though…” Jay admitted, raising his eyebrows. “He is the type of man I’d date.” With a soft laugh Jay poked Eugene, grinning. “But you have to admit that another attractive man out there is Newt Scamander, from Fantastic Beasts. Maybe it’s just me though. I liked his hair and eyes.”
The male shifted awkwardly on his bed, looking away for a moment. “I’m rather plain. And I don’t wear too much makeup or flashy clothes or anything like that to be noticed. I kind of just, fade into the background.” Jay sighed softly.
"You don't have to be 'out-there' to be attractive, sometimes the most attractive people are mostly unknown or unseen. It's a sad truth." Eugene explained, trying to help Jay feel better about himself. Not that Gene was super confident about himself, he definitely wasn't, but he always tried to take compliments and try to appreciate himself as much as possible.
"Ohh Newt's hot too… too many celebrities are too good looking and it's not fair to the rest of us."
