Adrien slapped his hands over his ears to muffle the sound but he didn't leave. At least, not yet. He grabbed the collar of Alex's shirt and dragged him inside, slamming the door behind both of them and shoving the entryway table in front of it to act as a barricade. "What the fuck!?"
Alex started pacing in front of the table, running a hand through his hair, “Shit, something must have followed us back through the Void,” He turned to Adrien, “Let me out.”
"No!" Adrien skittered in front of the table, blocking Alex from getting back outside. "Are you fucking kidding!? All you've got is a sword, it'll fucking snap you in half!"
Alex rolled his eyes, tempted to push Adrien out the way but refrained, “I won’t snap me in half. I’ve dealt with these things before, I’ll be fine.”
(Hey, fun plot idea, what if Alex gets kinda beat up so Adrien has to bandage him up while they both try to pretend they don't care at all about each other and totally don't give a shit that Alex almost died?)
Adrien gave him a hard look, plopping down stubbornly on top of the table and crossing his arms. "Fuck off, you're gonna get a huge chunk taken out of your side because that thing had teeth the size of daggers and then I'm gonna have to pay for your trip to the ER! No!"
(Lol I love that, let’s do it)
“Somehow you manage to be more stubborn then I am and I don’t even know how thats possible,” Alex huffed, blowing a strand of hair out of his face, “If I don’t kill that thing then it’s going to try and kill you or some innocent stranger. Let. Me. Through.”
(nice!)
"Fuck. Off. The only reason you even survived the last fight was 'cause I managed to hit myself with lightning, you are not going out there again!" Adrien glared at him, wincing when something large, heavy, and very murderous rammed itself against the door, sending the table forward a few inches.
“Adrien we don’t have time to argue,” Alex walked to the side of the table, grabbing it and pulling it a little further away, “If I don’t kill it this entire town is dead. I’m going out there.”
The thing his the door again and the wood splintered under its weight. Adrien finally got off the table, grabbing Alex's sleeve before he could do anything stupid like rush out to try and save the day. "Fine but if you get hurt I swear to god I'm gonna kill you."
Alex just smirked back, “Go ahead and try sweetheart but you would never.” He pulled his arm away, opening the door and slamming it shut before the thing could go at it again.
Adrien winced, rushing to the closest window to see what was happening. His worry had already called a storm into the sky, a roiling mass of clouds settling above to block out the sun, but he was helpless to command it as Alex faced off against the monster.
Alex swung his sword once, steadying his feet before dodging the creature as it lunged at him, rolling to the side. He stood, waiting for it to attack again before he swung, scratching it's side and making dark black blood drop from it's side. The thing hissed, digging it's feet in the ground before lunging again.
Thunder began to rumble, low at first and then louder and louder as anxious tendrils of lightning collided above. The thing was big, bigger than the one they'd faced off against yesterday, and Alex looked so small in front of it. So breakable.
He wasn’t so lucky this time, the creature swiping his feet out from under him and causing the walker to stumble. He thing almost seemed to grin, picking Alex up in his claws. Alex bared his teeth, trying not to show any fear as he swung his sword down and through it’s arm, making the creature retract for a moment.
Adrien felt cold all over and then he heard a shrieking sound. At first, he thought it was him, so scared that he didn't even realize he was screaming, and then he realized that it was the wind. Air buffeted the creature, hurling rocks and twigs into its hide while swerving around Alex's suspended body. It was strong enough to knock the thing back a foot, at least before it got its bearings."
Alex glanced over to Adrien for a brief moment, looking back to the creature a moment later. He spat on the ground, racing forwards and swinging. It would have been a perfect hit, would have if the thing hadn't ducked at the last second, causing him to miss and stumble. The thing charged, clawing him across the chest deeply and flinging him into a near by tree.
Adrien winced when Alex looked at him, eyes flickering over to the monster already beginning to shake off its surprise. He felt like he was watching in slow motion as Alex swung to kill it, a savage race of happiness then dread then abject terror tearing through him as Alex swung, missed, and tumped against the tree. There was a crack. He didn't know if it was a bone or the branches.
He didn't know a lot of things, actually, because the world had gone funny and silent and though thunder rumbled oin the edges of his senses all he could really see Was Alex, slumped over and bleeding. The thing advanced and he yelled… something. It didn't matter. It was drowned out by a crack of thunder so loud it pierced Adrien's shock and the all-consuming flare of lightning as it hit the creature over and over.
Alex grunted, using the last of his strength to stand leaning against his sword. With a groan, he hauled the sword like a javelin, straight into the centre of the creature. That, combined with the lighting, the creature fell to the ground, Alex following shortly after. He grabbed his stomach, feeling the wetness from the blood lying there.
Adrien was running outside the minute the creature collapsed, dropping to his knees by Alex with a nervous look. There was a lot of blood. It was hard to tell if he was even breathing. "You fucking dick, you said you were gonna be okay!" He reached down to cup Alex's face in his hands, slapping him gently. "Get up, you're not allowed to die yet!"
Alex somehow managed to crack a tiny smile, “I’m not dead yet, calm down.” He mumbled. Slowly, and painfully, he pushed himself up from the ground, hissing at the pain that shot through his body. The cuts were deep, deeper then he originally thought but at least none of his organs had fallen out.
Adrien winced as fresh blood burbled from his cuts, aggravated by his movement, and wrapped an arm around Alex's waist to help him to his feet with minimal injury. His shirt looked like it had been put through a blender with a live squirrel inside. His pants weren't much better. "Yeah, yet. Wrap your arms around my neck idiot, we're going back inside so I can stitch you up."
"When did you learn how to stitch up wounds?" Alex raised a brow, doing as he was told for once in his life and wrapping an arm around Adrien's waist. He could barely stand up and walk but he was trying… and he didn't think Adrien could carry his weight inside.
Adrien struggled to get Alex inside even with him carrying most of his own weight and when he set the world walker down on the couch it was none too gentle. "You pick a few things up after repeated surgery. Did you know superglue can be used in place of thread in an emergency?"
Alex hissed slightly, clutching his wounds and frowning down at them, then at Adrien, "No, I didn't, and I don't care unless the glue stops my organs from falling all over your furniture." He pushed against his stomach, applying pressure to calm down the bleeding.
Adrien passed him a light blanket to press over the cuts and then jogged over to the bathroom. He came back with a bottle of painkillers, which he tossed to Alex, and a first aid kit. "How high is your pain tolerance?" he asked, pulling out a needle and threading it with practiced eased. He barely even looked at the eye, eyes too busy scanning over the cuts and trying to assess the damage.
