“Colton!” Paige cried, standing up with him and blocking the boys from throwing a punch. “Colton, Bryson, don’t!” she begged.
“Colton!” Paige cried, standing up with him and blocking the boys from throwing a punch. “Colton, Bryson, don’t!” she begged.
“He started it!” Colton scowled at the other guy, “Sorry, Paige.”
“No I didn’t!” Bryson snapped, lunging at Colton.
Paige fell backwards against the table and cried out.
Bryson instantly looked at her. “Oh, Paige, I’m sorry!”
Colton growled at Bryson, “If it were just you and me you’d be out cold by now.”
“Stop! Stop! Both of you!” Paige pleaded, trying desperately to hold back her tears.
Colton looked to Paige and sighed, “I’m sorry Paige… maybe I should just stay away from you since clearly your brother seems to know best.”
Paige looked at him with wide eyes. "No, please, don't…" she whispered.
"That seems like a worthy solution," Bryson retorted.
Colton frowned, “Look, I know what you've heard about me, and yes it’s bad, I know. But I won’t hurt your sister if that’s what you think I’m gonna do.”
"And how can I trust you?" Bryson challenged, looking from Colton to Paige.
“One month. Give me one month to prove myself and if I haven’t then I’ll stay away.” Colton shrugged.
Bryson narrowed. "Fine," he agreed bitterly. "One month. Not a day more."
Paige sighed. Conflict had been avoided.
Colton nodded, visibly relaxing the slightest bit, “Good doing business with you.”
Paige stood and leaned on Colton's arm. "Bryson, you can go now," she said softly.
Colton wrapped Paige in a hug, not bothering to talk to Bryson anymore without getting angry again. He sighed and looked away from him.
Paige relaxed into Colton's arms.
Bryson frowned, then eventually turned and walked away from the couple.
"Did he leave?" Paige asked quietly.
Colton nodded, running a hand through Paige’s hair, “Yeah, he did.” He said quietly.
"I'm sorry, I should have warned you about how protective he is…"
“Hey, it’s fine. I don't care about him, I care about you and making sure you’re okay. I’m sorry I got angry.”
She nodded, her forehead rubbing against the fabrics of his shirt. "It's okay."
“No, it’s not,” Colton replied, sighing through his nose, “I had no right to do what I did.”
“No, it’s not,” Colton replied, sighing through his nose, “I had no right to do what I did.”
"I don't know what to say now," she whispered.
“Do you want to get out of here?” Colton asked quietly, “Take a walk before out next class?”
She nodded. "Yeah."
Her lunch remained uneaten on her tray.
Colton looked to her lunch, “Bring your lunch. You’re eating it as we walk. No arguing.”
