Avery hummed her agreement, walking to the edge of the water. She stared down at it, tightening her arms around herself. “Are we really sure this is such a good idea?”
Avery hummed her agreement, walking to the edge of the water. She stared down at it, tightening her arms around herself. “Are we really sure this is such a good idea?”
Dylan shook his head, "Nope. But like I said, there's nothing here but us. Can't you tell? Can't you feel how still it is around us?" He gestured around, in the dark sections Kagi's light didn't reach, "We're all safe and sound, if you don't count hypothermia and drowning."
Avery snorted and shook her head. “I still don’t like this. At all. Are we sure there isn’t somewhere more open that the river flows through? Maybe we should travel deeper into the cave and check, follow the river as far as possible.”
(Hey so im gonna back out of this. I just don’t have the time and I don’t really like the character I used in this anyways)
(Oof. Okay. Sorry you won’t be here anymore! You’ll always be welcome to join again if you want to.)
(Yeah, sorry I have to leave)
(No worries! I totally understand.)
(awe)
Kagi narrowed her eyes and looked around, before walking deeper into the water.
"We just need to get out of here as soon as possible. Find food, shelter, a way to dry our clothes and tend to our wounds."
"It'll be fine, Avery. Let's go." Dylan followed Kagi and gestured in front of her, "Keep swinging that light. We'll get outta here."
One step was much lower than the few others, and Dylan stumbled face first into the water, then pushed himself back up, spitting water.
“Shoot, are you okay?” Avery asked, stepping further into the water. She held her hands out to help him up, her gaze flitting over the water.
Kagi flashed the light in their direction, biting her lip in anxiousness. Her stomach was suddenly churning and she felt a little dizzy; like she would be sick.
But why? she thought. This doesn't make any sense.
Maybe, since she couldn't remember anything, this was her subconscious telling her something. Maybe she was afraid of the water, maybe she had something bad happen with it in the past. Since Dylan stummbled, maybe she lost someone to the murky depths at some point in the life she had no recollection of. Nevertheless, she had to keep going, no matter the queazy feeling.
"Fine! Fine," He responded quickly, casting a quick glance around. The stillness was still there. Good. "Mind the step, there."
They continued on with attempting to get any deeper, the whole while Dylan began feeling a little deflated. The water wasn't a bother, but he hated how slow it made him, and how close the whole place felt around him. What he wouldn't give to feel wind… open air…
He tried to remember when the last time he had been out in the open was. Instead, he got only vague images of flying which, though obscured, offered some degree of wistful joy.
Avery followed him through the water, though she was still wary. “I still don’t like this,” she mumbled, spinning around a couple of times before following.
"What even are we looking for?" Kagi asked, shining the light around lazily.
Dylan shrugged, "A way out? Answers? Something besides nothing?"
“Hopefully and preferably a way out,” Avery said, wrapping her arms around herself tightly. “Does anyone see anything at all?”
"No. And wading around like ducks is not going to help; we have to go under," she advised roughly. "That's where we find tunnels."
Dylan shook his head, "That doesn't make sense though. There should be another surface level entrance to this part of the cave somewhere. Going under is more likely to drown us than anything else. Besides, I don't feel like…… wait a minute."
The stillness of the darkness had faded. Something was moving, somewhere. There was no sound, though. No tremors. But millions of tiny feet were scampering about, right on Dylan's left arm yet a good half a mile down the tunnel. At least, so it felt.
It's just my imagination. It has to be.
He returned to reality to find Kagi looking at him expectantly.
"Nevermind. Point is we should be able to find something on this level, right?"
“Exactly what I’ve been saying. There should be another entrance to the cave, probably at the end, or beginning as it very well may be, of the river,” Avery said, glancing over her shoulder. Just because everything had been okay so far didn’t mean that it would the rest of the time.
The water was getting deeper, and sooner or later Kagi would just have to swim. She wasn't that tall, and the moment came quickly. The paddled through the water aside the other two for a solid minute before hearing a noise; like tiny little feet.
"Did you guys hear something?" she asked quietly.
Dylan nodded, "Forget hear something. I felt it… It's like… like… thousands of tiny feet running across my arm. I thought I was insane, but they're there. Disturbing the dark…" He trailed off when he realized the two were looking at him.
"What? You don't feel them?"
"I don't feel them, necessarily I-" but she never finished her sentence, because without so much as a yelp she was jerked under the water.
