“Thanks,” Anya said, accepting it gratefully. “Okay. Split up?”

Spencer shot her a look, an eyebrow raised.

"In your condition, there is no way I'm letting you off by yourself."

“Seriously? Way to be condescending,” Anya grumbled. “Fine. Where to first?”

(Okay, night!)

"I'm not being condescending! I'm trying to make sure you don't get hurt any more than you already are," Spencer defending himself. "Let's check on Lily first. She got put in Eliza's room."

“Okay,” Anya agreed. “I go there, you cover me. Ready, set, go.” Anya raced off, leaving no time for calculations or arguing. She had given Spencer two options: protect her, or let her fend for herself, and at this point, Anya was pretty sure which one he would choose…. like, 99.9% sure….

Spencer narrowed his eyes at Anya's retreating form, then sighed and followed her. Of course, he was going to protect her. He was a gentleman, after all.

And you like her…

Anya ducked around doorways and kept her head low, remaining alert but inconspicuous. She looked over her shoulder once to see Spencer following her.
Yay! My mathematics haven’t gotten as bad as I feared!
She rounded a corner and came upon a door that she knew to lead straight to Eliza’s room.
Here we go… Anya eased open the door and was met by a mass of trigger-happy soldiers. (Bad guys tho not good guys ;P) She rolled out of the way, praying that Spencer would do the same, and felt her hip throb.
You have got to be kidding me.

Spencer ducked away with a silent groan. Of course. Of course, now that they were somewhere that was supposed to be safe, they would get found and attacked.

He grumbled under his breath about Jake's security measures, or lack there-of.

A man in the group of soldiers stepped out in front of them. “Ahh, the infamous spies,” he said scornfully, rubbing his hands together. “Not so special after all, hmm?”

"Spies? There are spies here?" Spencer asked, looking around obliviously. "My coworker and I were just visiting a friend before we head to work in the morning. I didn't know he had spies here."

“Wait, are you saying that… there are real spies?” Anya said excitedly, jumping to her feet as though nothing was wrong. “They’re not jusr legends?!?! OMG, I’m a huge fan of the Black Widow!! Is she here?” Anya then proceeded to look around, as though she expected to find her.

"Oooh, it would be really cool to meet her, wouldn't it? And Hawkeye, he's super cool," Spencer enthused, nodding.

“I’ve been dreaming of this moment!” Anya gushed.

"So have I! I can't believe we're about to meet the Black Widow and Hawkeye!" Spencer looked to Anya with a grin on his face, a question in his eyes. Where are we going with this?

Let’s just roll with it…
“My mum will be so excited to see!! Do you think I could take a picture with her?!” Anya squealed, clapping her hands.

Spencer laughed. "That would be awesome! Maybe I could get a picture with Hawkeye. Do you think they'd let us? Ooooh, what if we got their autographs?!?"

“Oh my gosh, that would be amazing! And if we got extras, we could frame them, in a display!! Oh, Emily will be sooo jealous!!” Anya grinned, dancing in place.

The man sighed. “No, we do not have the Black Widow or… this Hawkeye you speak of. But we have you!” He did the appropriate villain laugh.

Anya looked crestfallen, then confused. “Me? What about me? I thought you said you had the Black Widow??”

//in case you were wondering, I modeled the villain after the Infinity War marketing team.

"Wait… No Hawkeye?" Spencer asked, his eyebrows scrunching together. "How have you never heard of Hawkeye? He's only the best super spy…"

“That’s probably why,” Anya smiled, twirling her hair on one finger. “Hawkeye is just too good. It’s also probably why they don’t have Black Widow.”

(What is your tragic story?!?)

Spencer nodded slowly. "Yeah, probably. They're just too good to get caught, I suppose. I mean, why would they be here, in some random person's condo, of all places? That'd just be stupid."

“Really strange,” Anya agreed, wrinkling her forehead. “Unless… what if… WHAT IF THIS ISNT JUST SOME RANDOM CONDO?!?! What if it’s… a secret base?! Ooh, that would be so cool!”

(What.)

"Ohmygosh, heck yeah, it would!" Spencer exclaimed, bouncing on his toes. "We're in a secret base, and we didn't even know it! I wonder if my friend knew… He probably didn't. He's such an idiot that he totally wouldn't even know that there was a secret super spy base in his apartment."

“Aw man, this is even better!! I wonder if we could find it… start pulling levers!!” Anya squealed, clapping her hands again. She ran to the kitchen and started pulling hooks and levers.

(I swear, this is so funnily stupid…)

Spencer raced into the kitchen behind Anya, subtly making sure she wasn't going to hurt herself more than she was. He pulled on drawers, random bulging places, and wherever else he could.

"I wonder if we'll find the entrance?" he enthused.
