Spencer's pocket vibrated as his phone received a text. He glanced around the supermarket before pulling it out and checking the screen.
DIRECTOR BARNS: New mission. Meet at my office in ten.
With a sigh, Spencer shoved the phone into his back pocket and left the store. Turning the corner as soon as he was out, he walked down the alleyway and stopped in a seemingly random place. Glancing around to make sure no one was watching him, he pressed a hand to the brick wall. Blue light outlined his hand, and a hidden door slid open, revealing a polished, white hallway. He slid inside, and the door automatically closed behind him.
Anya’s wristwatch vibrated. She turned her head to check it inconspicuously, still in a meeting. New mission. At my office. ASAP. From the Director himself. Anya stood up abruptly. “Excuse me, sir,” she told her boss. “Something’s happened to my sister. Is it okay if I….” she gestured to the door, letting a panicked expression cross her face. Her boss nodded, and she left, speedwalking to the extraction point and getting in the waiting car. They sped off to HQ.

(Okay. See ya later!)
Other agents greeted Spencer as he walked inside the base, heading to the director's office to receive his assignment.
When he arrived, he knocked on the door and stuck his head in, calling, "Sir? I'm here."
Director Barns looked up from his desk. His immaculate, dark brown hair was a stark contrast to the piles of paperwork sitting in front of him. He gestured for Spencer to come in when he noticed him standing outside his door.
"Have a seat," he said, pointing to the chairs across from him. "We're just waiting for one more agent to arrive, and then I will start briefing you on your assignment."
"Yes, sir," Spencer said, taking a seat.
Anya rushed into the base immediately after the car had been hidden, knocking politely on the Director’s door. “Sir?” She said, poking her head inside, surprised to see another agent inside but covering her expression. “He thinks my sister has been hurt. This will either have to be very quick or very long.”
(I'm here for a bit!)
"Come in, come in," the director told Anya, waving her inside. "We were just waiting for you."
Spencer turned around slightly to see who was at the door. He gave the unfamiliar girl a nod, then faced the director again.
"A few hours ago, I just got word that someone was trying to infiltrate the White House. I was told, by Mr. President himself, to send in at least two of my best agents to find out who it was and why they were doing it. There is also a good chance that they will try again.
You both will need to keep your identities secret, so as soon as you are dismissed, I'm going to have you go to the disguise room. Janet will help you pick some new things out, and then Sophia and Daniel will help you with your hair and makeup." He glanced at Spencer as he said, "Don't worry about the makeup part. The most you'll be wearing is – possibly – a fake mustache or mole or something."
Picking up two manilla folders from his desk, Director Barns handed one each to Spencer and Anya. "These have all the information you will need for this assignment. Be careful, and don't get caught. You are dismissed."
Spencer took his folder, then thanked Barns. "You won't regret this, Sir," he declared, then left the room. He waited just outside the door for the girl, hoping to introduce himself.
Anya accepted her folder wordlessly. She was about to leave but she turned back to the director. “What about my unfinished previous assignment, sir?”
(I've gtg for the day, but I'll be back tomorrow.)
"Someone else will complete it," Director Barns stated, looking down at his paperwork.
“Thank you, sir,” Anya nodded, exiting the office. She was surprised to see the other spy, the boy, standing outside, waiting for her. “Oh. Hello.”
Spencer nodded at the girl.
"Hey. I'm Spencer," he introduced himself, sticking his hand out. "I thought it might be a good idea for me to introduce myself since we'll be working together."
Anya shook his hand professionally. “Anya. I think you were right. But I also think that we should know each other by the code names we will be operating under.” She gestured to her folder. “But we cant open these here, so….”
(I totally wrecked my knees last night… So I'm going to deal with them as fast as I can, then I'll try to be back. Sorry if I don't respond for a bit.)
Spencer nodded.
"I agree. That sounds like a good idea. I was just going to go back to my room, but we could go to the study together if you'd like," he suggested.
//dude take care of yourself i have to go rn anyway
“The study would be fine,” Anya nodded curtly, leading the way.
(I'm trying to! Lol. I'll "see" you later, then.)
Spencer's eyebrows shot up momentarily as he walked quickly to catch up to Anya. Before he caught up to her, he put a more neutral expression back on his face.
"So," he started as they walked, "How long have you been with the organization?"
“Few years,” Anya said nonchalantly. I’m not about to say 20. “You?”
Spencer scratched the back of his neck as he thought about it.
"I think it's been about four, now," he replied.
“Nice. A senior in our ranks,” Anya smiled.
"Sure, yeah," Spencer chuckled. "Not really, though. Some people have been here ten times as long as I have."
“Yeah,” Anya half-laughed, half-sighed. “Excited for the new mission?”
