“William….” Mom started once everyone had been served. “Where were you?”
Will blushed. “I-Er- I- we- um….” he couldn’t quite get the words out. He wasn’t sure what he wanted to explain first.
“Speak, son.” His dad said firmly.
Jack rolled his eyes, and then yelped as he was kicked by Anna under the table.
Rykah didn't know how to help, but he knew he should..
With Will’s nervousness, he accidentally rambled our the entire story, all of it. Even the parts he didn’t want to tell. Jack and Anna both watched in horror and slight awe, afraid of what was coming next. Once Will finally finished, ending on coming back here, his father stood up. He stared at them, his expression cold and unreadable.
Rykah paled fearing what might happen to Will. His wings also puffed up protectively.
“Excuse me?” Dad said. All three siblings flinched, Jack’s hand finding Will’s wrist.
Rykah wanted to shrink away, not entirely sure what to do.. but his hand found Will's wrist knowing that it would comfort him he found the other boy's pulse.
“I…..” Will’s face changed from terrified and panicked to prideful. “You heard me.”
Jack’s grip tightened so much it was almost painful, and Anna stood up, ready to step in between them.
Rykah managed to get ahold of himself, and slid his hand down into Will's,
Will squeezed.
“You can’t talk to me that way.” Their father said angrily. He looked about ready to hit Will, and that’s what all of his siblings thought to.
“Will, go to your room please. Let me speak to your father alone.” Mom said.
“No!” His father said. “He needs to learn a lesson.”
Jack suddenly grabbed Anna’s hand as well, made sure he had a good grip on Will’s hand, looked behind him, and suddenly they were back out in the forest.
Rykah blinked as they ended up out in the forest. "What the?"
“That was about to get bad.” Jack said tiredly. He had opened a portal into the forest, as it was his power.
"How did…." rykah was still a bit confused…
“I Can open portals.” Jack said, while Will hugged him gratefully.
Rykah nodded, trying not to let his confusion overwhelm him.
“Yeah….. they got the cool stuff.” Will said, smiling.
Anna, feeling like she probably needed to clarify, said, “I’m a shapeshifter. But…. not animals, or anything. Just my appearance.”
"Cool" said Rykah, "but, what do we do about your parents?"
“Mom’ll hopefully calm Dad down a bit, then they’ll call us, saying they’re sorry.” Anna said, while Jack rolled his eyes.
“What’ll probably happen is that Dad decides to invite Anna and I back to the house, and we have to sneak Will in.” Jack never had been an optimist.
"Will can always stay with me.." said Rykah quietly, "My dad gave us a way to get back and forth, and my mom probably won't care too much.."
“Let’s just see what happens first, then we can make arrangements.” Anna said.
Will nodded.
"Right" said Rykah.
Anna’s phone suddenly rang, and she quickly answered it, walking away. Will crossed his fingers.
(I’m assuming phones are a thing?)
(Only in their world!)
Rykah watched, although confused cause he'd never been good with technology…
(Ok, just double checking.)
Anna came back after a few minutes of shouting, which mostly had just sounded like gibberish to them, and large hand gestures.
“Will…..” Anna said. “They’ve invited you back home. Mom says Dad’s going to apologize, and all is okay.”
Rykah sighed in relief, smiling at the news.
