"Our helpful and clearly bored warriors have agreed to help us. They're still hella pissed that Kali nearly wiped out their entire race."
"That's…..good, I guess," he said, beginning to stretch his arms.
She raised a brow and pocketed the note, then pet Drax. "You're acting weird today."
He didn't respond, pretending to focus on his stretches. She doesn't remember, then.
She ducked her head and waved at him. "Hellooo?" Drax squawked and picked at her hair, distracting her from Runner as she scowled and attempted to shoo the bird away.
"It's nothing," he said, trying to wave her off. "I'm fine."
She yelped and fell over, Drax still messing with her. She was thoroughly distracted from pestering Runner as the shadowy falcon pestered her.
He sighed, pausing from his stretches to try and help her with the bird. "This is a bit silly."
Drax backed off the moment Runner came over, squawking and flying up into a nearby tree. Tessa pushed her hair out of her face and scowled up at the bird.
He offered his hand. "You were just mugged by a bird."
"Fuck off," she muttered, grabbing his hand and letting him help pull her up. "He never acts like that…"
Runner shrugged, immediately pulling his hand away as soon as she got her balance back and looking away from her.
She studied him with narrowed eyes, trying to figure out why he was acting so weird. Last night was a blur to her–all she could clearly remember was him carrying her up to bed.
"Let's just get to training," he said quickly, shoving his hands in his pockets.
"Okay…" she said slowly, then headed out into the middle of the dusty yard behind the house. With a toe, she flicked up two bamboo staffs and held out one for Runner to grab. "Let's start with your reflexes."
He groaned, taking one of the staffs like it was a poisonous snake. "Daw shit, okay."
"You're going to have to do it at some point, and I'm going to be less brutal of a teacher than Leon and the others are going to be, so just deal." She twirled her staff, eyeing him for a bit with a blank face, then gripped her staff and lazily swung at his ankles.
He at least made an attempt to move away, but just ended up of his ass when his legs were swiped out from under him.
"Oh, come on!" She stabbed her staff into the ground and leaned against it, looking down at him with a look of confusion and a hint of concern. "I wasn't even trying. What the hell is up with you today?"
"You seriously don't remember what happened last night?" he asked, choosing to just stay on the ground for the time being.
"I was plastered last night. That shit doesn't pull its punches," she said, then rolled her eyes. "All I remember clearly is you carrying me up to bed. That's it. Everything else is a blur. Ziltch. Nothin'."
He let out a sigh, pulling a face. Fuck it. He explained everything that happened the best he could remember, a blush creeping further and further on his face with each word he said.
She blinked when he was done. Then blinked again. And once more. "Fuck me…" she muttered and walked into the house.
He nodding to himself, feeling a ball of frustration grow in the front of his skull. "Fuck," he grumbled aloud, grunting as he got up to his feet.
Tessa paced back and forth, fingers digging into her scalp as she ran through what Runner had described. It all came rushing back to her in embarrassing clarity when he had retold it. Shit shit shit shit shit shit shit.
