“Says the small human that fits perfectly in what I crafted to fit him,” Isaac gives Haze a wide devious smile. He picks his satchel up from off the ground and swings it was over his head so it is across his body. “Sleep tight, don’t let your human bed bugs bite. I still don’t get that saying. It baffles me.”
Isaac sits down making himself comfortable on the ground, leaning against a tree. He watches the horizon, waiting for the sun. He trains his head up at the moving stars and scoffs. His eyes go back to the horizon. As soon as it breaks dawn, they’ll be on the move again to retrieve the crown.
Haze had slept most of the night, though he did start to whimper, his body curled tightly. There was the terrors he was talking about
Isaac watched the sun slowly creep above the horizon. He notices Haze’s distress and nudges him slightly. He tilts his head as he’s never seen a creature so terrified in its sleep. He puts his hand on Haze’s back and starts to rub it with hope he’ll wake, or that’ll ease the fear.
“Haze,” Isaac said. “It’s time to wake. Dawn has broken.”
Haze gave a soft jerk as he was broke from the dream, “ alright..” he said softly, gathering his things
Isaac wonders farther into the forest, hoping his human companion will follow. "Why do you become terrified in your sleep?" Isaac pondered. He never understood why they fright so easily. He has now lost his hard edge while supplying Haze with his needs. Many would call Isaac soft and a disgrace. Morning hunger doesn't take over, as he's never felt hunger. He grips onto his satchel tightly as he stares down a squirrel. His shoulders go up in a defensive mode as a larger animal appears from the underbrush. Isaac lets out a curse in Latin and backs up slowly. The animal glances at Isaac with terror and scampers off. His smile becomes twisted with the knowledge that he still strikes fear into most creatures. Isaac turns to Haze, looking him up and down.
"You're thin," Isaac notes. "Thinner than me."
“ I am supposed to be, “ he said softly “ and I scare because I have bad dreams.
“Supposed to be?” Isaac starts on his path through the forest on his journey to retrieve the crown. His steps are quite heavy and tempered. Hunger catches up with him and he grimaces to keep his urge to kill down. He picks an apple off of a tree and throws it to Haze. The wind picks up, but Isaac is not bothered by the chill. It’s like he can’t feel it.
Haze started to shiver as he ate the apple “ fuck its cold..” he whispered to himself
“Your planet is strange like that. It gets absurdly cold for no reason,” Isaac unbuttons his coat and slips it off. He gives it to Haze, “It may be big, but it's better than freezing to death.” Isaac stares at the horizon, “You’re very complainant for a human. Most are yapping a mile a minute with questions. Others threaten, but you're quiet.”
“ I enjoy my sensory, these sounds, the sights, and the feel of everything around me”
“You’re the type to take in your surroundings? Tell me, what do you notice?” Isaac treks along the path, stepping over large roots. He ducks under tree branches. The hunger intensifies and he clenches his fists. Isaac kicks a rock to swallow his urges, and it bounces off a tree.
“ your hungry, there's three to for deer up ahead if your quiet.”
Isaac stops in his tracks and says in a low, hush tone. “Clever boy, but a demon’s hunger is never fed. The desire to kill can be stifled though. Your deer might be helpful, so I don't turn on you.” Isaac's eye twitches, and he carefully takes a hunting knife out of his satchel.
“ tracks say about a mile..”
Isaac spins the hunting knife, "You've been hunting before?" His heart is beating wildly against his chest. Such a hunt was exhilarating feeds both physical and mental hunger, but not indefinitely. Isaac takes a few methodical steps forward, then comes to a stop. He trained his eyes up ahead to plan a strategy to surprise the deer just a mile away. "You like deer?" Isaac asked with a psychotic smile. He ignored all emotions, as hunger forces you to do. He continued on his path, advancing closer to the deer. Isaac muffled his footsteps by wading through mud rather than leaves. If you weren't aware of Isaac's presence, you wouldn't know he was there. Let alone know of his existence.
Haze sighed, sitting and waiting.
After a while, Isaac comes back with a bloody knife. Any trace of what he's done has been wiped away. He sits close to haze and puts the knife back in his satchel. He smiles, "I feel better, sorry about that." He seems well-mannered, better than before. "I've never stopped and gazed around a forest. It's serene," he laughs. "Do you like to spend time in forests? You seem like that type of person."
“ yes, it helps clear my mind” he said, leaning on the other as he relaxed further. Haze seemed almost distracted but being next to Issac made everything fade but the thought of him. Maybe it was the gen but it was helping
Isaac is startled by Haze leaning on him, but he doesn't dare to move like how one wouldn't disturb a puppy sleeping on their lap. "I'm guessing touch soothes you physically, and a serene place calms you mentally," Isaac manifests his wings and wraps one around Haze. "I guess we can stay here for a few minutes."
“ honestly, it's just you. You held my hand and I had no worries, I let go and they all flood me. It's like contact with you just takes my mind away” he mumbled, closing his eyes
Isaac blinked. No human has said anything so… peculiar to him. He didn’t understand this feeling, the one that holds you in a little bubble as the world continues. He guessed that’s how Haze must feel. The understanding of basic anger grounded him to the human plain. And a few seconds of shock, he smiles. “No creature has ever said anything like that to me.”
“ I'm not sure if that's good or bad,”
Isaac considers the weight of his words, “Well, there’s a first for everything. I don’t think it’s either. I’ve just never had someone close enough.” Isaac has the urge to ruffle Haze’s hair. And so he takes the plunge, he ruffles Haze’s hair. “Every moment I spend with you is making me—human-like. It’s an interesting change.”
Haze laughed, bubbly and sweet. His smile was bright as his golden eyes rested on Issacs.
Isaac tilts his head slightly and smiles with playful suspicion, his fangs covering a few of his bottom teeth. Creases form around his eyes, and the bridge of his nose wrinkles, "You have the same eye color as me. Either you can shift your appearance, or it's a coincidence". Isaac folds in his wing and puts an arm around Haze instead, "You must also really love when someone ruffles your hair." Isaac lets out a low, warm giggle, "Now all we need is a warm campfire, but unfortunately, it's the day. We're wasting its light."
