John was lying on the couch, with his wife on top of his chest. He rubbed lazy circles over her swollen stomach, bordering the edge of sleep while he listened to the fireplace and her breath.

Jane was boarding on falling asleep when she heard the doorbell ring. "I'll get it," she murmured, sitting up to attend to the waiting person.

Her husband sighed with gentle disappointment, "If you must…"

The most dreaded man peered back. "Hello. I'm back."

Jane withered at the sight of him. "H-Hello, Captain. Would you like me to take your coat?"

"Yes." He stepped inside, dropped it on her.

"Excuse me," John stood up, "Captain. I'm sure as a man with plenty of… Physical training, surely your coat isn't heavy enough to wear you out?"

Jane hung up the coat without a word.

John picked it back up off the hook, and dropped it at the Captain's feet. "With all due respect," he spoke calmly, "My pregnant wife has enough on her hands, and I am your superior. You will treat me and my house as such."

Simcoe blinked a few times. Bewildered. He spoke, finally, just a deadpan yes, sir.

Jane's head was lowered, and her gaze was the same.

"Jane, my love," John spoke fonder towards her, "Bed?"

She looked up and over at him. "Of course, John," she said softly.

He scooped up her hand and led her along. The captain huffed with agitation behind them.

Jane smiled and let herself be lead by John. As long as he was here, she was safe.

"I'll get him out of here in due time." John reassured her, "At least before I have to leave. That wont be for some time, though,"

"Thank you, my dear husband," she sighed.

"Absolutely." He closed the bedroom door behind them, and let out a long sigh. "I missed this," his voice dropped to a spfter volume, "Being with you."

They stopped jusr on the fridge of the enemy camp. The General was taking one last survey.

Pierre took the opportunity to shift closer to Edonine, murmuring a few words of comfort.

She didn't say anything back to her fiancé. But he knew she heard his words and let them in. The General peered back over to his flock of armed men. Speaking in amost silent words and mostly gestures, he split the mass of men into thirds: one to follow the general, and the other two to flank the British camp.

"I did too," she said quietly, looking up at him with love and admiration.

He brushed his hands up her arms, "Beautiful,"
