"When you dance around it," he exhaled, "When you don't just say it,"
"When you dance around it," he exhaled, "When you don't just say it,"
George set down the bowl he was holding, turned, and looked Bailey straight in the eye. “The horse bucked is off. You fell on top of me. I got up and extended a hand to help you, but you pulled me down. Then, Bailey..” He swallowed. “You kissed me.”
He blinked, clasped his hands together in a slow gesture. "Oh,"
George inhaled deeply and turned back to the apple he had been cutting. “Happy?”
Bailey replied with silence.
George swallowed again and finished slicing up his apple.
"Well," he exhaled in a drawl, "Was it good?"
George’s hand came to a stop above the plate, trembling slightly. “You don’t remember it?”
"No," he laughed quietly.
George slipped past him with a fruit and bread-laden plate, placing it on the kitchen table.
He followed him with his gaze, "Are you still upset..?"
George shook his head. “God, no.”
"Okay." He nodded curtly.
“It was… it was good. Really good.”
Bailey smiled. Just a little.
But George was turned away from Bailey, so he couldn’t see the smile. Instead, he took the man’s silence for displeasure, and his heart plummeted.
"Did you like the raspberry brandy?" He asked George.
Confused, George replied in the affirmative.
"Good. Good stuff," he acknowledged.
George tilted his head in question, turning back to Bailey. "What does that have to do with anything?"
"Well, I like talking to you,"
"…Oh." George faltered, licking his dry lips. "Okay. Are you upset about the kiss? Even though you don't remember it?"
"Not at all," he answered, shuffling up behind him. "It was a subconscious desire."
"Is it…. still subconscious?" he dared to ask, breath hitching.
"No," he replied with a bit of that crooked smile.
