Pierre nodded and stumbled away into the confines of his bedroom.
Dear April,
His hand began to tremble, so he paused before continuing.
I am writing on behalf of your lover, Cruz, to ask that you come to [insert address] as soon as possible. He was taken prisoner by the British a few days ago and was found in the woods today, and it pains me to tell you that he will not be able to lay eyes on you when you arrive, because he has none left to see with. Please come quickly.
Sincerely, Pierre (a friend of Cruz)
Pierre could hear the Spaniard come to life in the other room– when the doctor tried to clean out the sockets, the man opened his mouth in a bloody scream, violently reared awake.
Pierre came running the moment the scream pierced the air. “Cruz?!”
"Well," John smiled widely, "I'm glad you found someone who can make you happy, Peter," he congratulated.
'And you as well, John," Peter replied with a wink.
Someone tapped Jane's shoulder, and she squealed happily. "Sarah!"
The beautiful strawberry-blonde grinned playfully. "Hullo, Jane!"
Pierre came running the moment the scream pierced the air. “Cruz?!”
The doctor had to hold the wild man down, til his feverish screams drowned back into unconsciousness.
"He'll.. He may be like this for a while," the doctor breathed. "He's still in shock,"
Pierre covered his mouth, but a muffled sob still escaped from between his fingers.

John blinked. He'd not met Sarah before.
Pierre covered his mouth, but a muffled sob still escaped from between his fingers.
Edonine stayed far away, expression blank and her shoulders hunched.
"I've done what I can," the doctor exhaled. "Keep him in bed. If an infection settles, fetch me immediately," the doctor spoke.
"Yes, sir," Pierre said in a shaky voice, "Thank you."
Geoffrey looked over at them, in morbid silence.
"I'll get him into a bed.." Edonine murmured.
"I'll help," he told her, unable to look at anyone but Cruz.

"John, this is my friend, Sarah Davis," Jane introduced the girl. Her hair was braided and wrapped around her head like a crown. "Sarah, this is John, my new husband."
"How do you do?" Sarah asked, beaming at John and extending her hand.
"Ah, rather tired," he admitted quietly, taking her hand and just bowing his head, instead of kissing it like normal.
"I'll help," he told her, unable to look at anyone but Cruz.
She shuffled forward as the doctor left, and began to.. Try, at least, to pick up the full grown man.
Pierre helped her carry his best friend, laying him down on the bed. "I should probably send that…" he murmured, gesturing to the letter. "And I'll write to the General."
"Yes," she whispered, staring at the blinded man.
"Ah, rather tired," he admitted quietly, taking her hand and just bowing his head, instead of kissing it like normal.
Sarah wrinkled her nose in confusion, then giggled. "Such a gentleman…" She'd been going for a handshake, but oh well!
Jane smiled. "So how are you, Sarah?"
"I've been doing well. Brothers are all fighting, so having a peaceful house is a bit nice," she laughed.
"I–" Pierre cut himself off and turned abruptly away. "Yeah. I'll do that now."
"Ah, rather tired," he admitted quietly, taking her hand and just bowing his head, instead of kissing it like normal.

John shuffled awkwardly; his introvert self was starting to crave the solidarity of home.

(skip?)
Yeah, til April comes over?)

"So early? Jane, you've hardly danced!" Sarah cried.
Jane blushed. "It's fine. I'm tired. Shall we go, John?"
