Rose sighed as she hefted her backpack up higher onto her shoulders. As much as she liked to learn, she hated school. There were too many people who just didn’t care enough about anything. And that included her brother, who, at the moment, was probably lazing about somewhere.
Tobias was indeed lazing about. He had his head down and earbuds in at his study hall, dozing comfortably in his sweat-combo. He worked as hard as he could in his core classes, just so he could sleep in his study hall. Of course, that was the class he always failed, since he didn’t have work to do, but hey, one class.
Rose stuffed her books in her locker and traded them out for her next ones. She actually enjoyed her next class, which was AP English. English had to be her favorite subject, by far. There was just something about how words could be arranged to make something like a book or a play or a speech or even just research that made her want to be able to do it as well as, say, Shakespeare.
Tobias felt his shoulders being shook. He blinked open his eyes, sitting up slowly and rubbing his eyes. He waved off the teacher and stood, picking up his things and moving unsteadily from out of the desks and class. He made his way to Honors Trigonometry, which he found to be extremely easy.
(The nerds. Lol. They’re both super smart but have completely different personalities.)
English went by in a blur. Rose wished it had lasted longer because now she just had to go to her one filler class: Debate. If she had a choice, she would have taken just about any other class, but the others she wanted to take were filled before she could.
Debate was just a pain to her because none of the other students actually cared about it. At least, if you asked her, they didn’t. She took that class very seriously, but it seemed that no one else did, and she hated that.
(Lol, raised to be smart and intuitive, yet totally different in every way.)
After completing his work Tobias trudged to his Health class. It was by far the easiest. He sat down in his normal seat, in the back somewhere, and squished his face up into his hands with a yawn. Another boring day for another nickle in his nickle jar.
(Comepletely and entirely. Lol.
When should we introduce the others?)
Rose sighed and packed her bags up. As she was walking to her next class, she tripped and spilled her books across the floor. When she had realized what had happened, she looked up and glared at anyone who was looking at her, including the guys and girls snickering together in a group not too far from where she’d been tripped.
Without a word, she picked up her books, stood back up, and headed to her next class. Laughter continued to follow her while she walked, but she continued to ignore it.
(Hmmm I’m not sure about Tobias. But maybe my character steps in when she’s getting bullied?)
Tobias stuck his hands in his pockets and looked around the room, messing with a quarter he had stashed in there. He liked to mess with little things. They helped him stay up so teachers didn’t get upset at him for falling asleep. How couldn’t he?
(Sounds good!)
Rose's next class was rather uneventful. She got through it easily, with it being mostly review for the day, and then headed to her next class.
Once again, she fell in the middle of the hallway. This time, her notes from her folder scattered across the floor and got kicked away by a few passing students.
The folder was kicked away and plocked into a passerby’s foot, who paused and lifted up the folder slowly, as to not dip out the papers. The male straightened up, his brow furrowed. No one ever tripped down this hall. He stepped out of the traffic and over to the girl who tripped, offering a hand.
“Hi. Are you okay?” He asked with a bright smile.
Tobias slunk his way out of his Health class, sighing and messing with his quarter. He slipped into the more empty halls, where he could stride along quickly to claim a good seat for his next class; Honors Chemistry.
Rose looked up at the guy in front of her and scrunched her eyebrows up a bit. Why was he asking if she was okay? She was sure he didn't really care…
"I'm fine. Thank you for picking up my folder," she said as she finished gathering the rest of her things. She stood up and took the folder back from him, adding it to her pile of books. "I should be on my way to my next class now…"
The guy smiled lightly and stepped out of her way, bowing lightly. He had long brown hair that was a black color at the roots. It looked quite nerdy, but it matched his dark eyes quite well.
“Alright. You're welcome.” He trotted off, ignoring the snickers as he passed.
Rose watched him walk away for a moment before she along her head and starting toward AP History. It was a good thing this one another of her favorite classes. Maybe it could cheer her up a little…
Tobias shook out his fluffy, tangled hair and stepped into his Chemistry class, sinking into a chair near the door. He was ready to go home and sink into bed. The warm embrace of his bed called him in the corners of his mind as the boring teacher stood to announce the lab they were doing tomorrow.
A shorter blonde took the seat beside Tobias and smiled over at him. Her hair was stacked in top of her head in a half-up messy bun, the other half hanging down to her mid-chest.
"Hey. You excited for this class? Chem is my favorite," she whispered over to Tobias with a grin.
Tobias’ eyes flitted briefly to her and he shrugged a little. “I guess. This class has just gotten boring,” was his dull response. He didn’t really like Chemistry as much he did Bio or Physics. He pulled out his quarter and started to turn it in his hand over the desktop, making sure it didn’t clatter and make noise.
"Boring? How could you think Chemistry is boring?" the girl chuckled. She looked over at him with bright green eyes framed by dark lashes. "This is probably the best class of my day."
Tobias kept his gaze down and focused on his shining little piece of silver. He liked how it caught light and gleamed brightly.
“Eh. It’s just dull. The same stuff every day, I guess.”
The girl hummed and glanced down at his spinning coin. The teacher said something that caused her attention to snap back to the front for a moment before she turned back to Tobias.
"I'm Robyn, by the way," she introduced herself with a small smile.
“That’s nice,” Tobias blurted out rather suddenly. “I’m Tobias,” He quickly continued, hoping he didn’t sound as standoffish as he felt. He ignored the teacher altogether, his head and shoulders still dipped in posture.
"It was nice to meet you, Tobias. I'm sure we'll be seeing lore of each other this year. Well… Obviously, we will because we're in at least one of the same classes together," Robyn chirped with a shrug before her attention returned to the front of the room.
Tobias nodded over the desk, chewing on his lip and sighing faintly. If one day felt like a whole month, this entire year was going to be extremely long.
The teacher rambled on about the chemicals they’d be mixing and the lab itself. The lab required partners, which everyone in the class began turning to each other and whispering.
Robyn laughed softly and turned to Tobias again. "Well, what do you say? Partners?"
Tobias glanced up again, still spinning his coin. “Sure. Sounds good.” He looked back down and away.
