Daisy glanced over at Arvil and shrugged. “Not from me. What about you—“ She stumbled over the next word a bit awkwardly before being able to say it. “—love?”
Daisy glanced over at Arvil and shrugged. “Not from me. What about you—“ She stumbled over the next word a bit awkwardly before being able to say it. “—love?”
“Nothing from me, either,” Arvil responded smoothly. He really needed to talk to her about those pet names… “We’ll be seeing you around, then.”
“Right, of course,” Grayson nodded. With one last look, he turned around.
“Hey Cam, little guy, c’mon. Let’s go.”
Daisy followed after the man and his eerily-similar nephew. “Which flavor was your favorite, Cameron?” she asked, smiling at the little boy.
Arvil held out his hand for his nephew to take, who took it immediately.
“I like chocolate,” he replied with a smile. “The chocolate one was the best.”
“Too bad they didn’t have cotton candy, huh? I guess we’ll just have to have chocolate cupcakes for the kids,” Daisy mused, reaching over to ruffle his hair.
“That’s okay,” Cameron replied, squeezing his uncle’s hand. He smiled brighter when Daisy ruffled his hair. “Chocolate is good, too!”
Daisy chuckled and glanced up at Arvil before looking back down at Cameron. “Chocolate is very good. I like brownies better than chocolate cupcakes, though. What about you?”
“I actually agree with that,” Arvil hummed, staring down at his nephew. “I prefer brownies over any other dessert.”
“I like cupcakes,” Cameron frowned. “They’re amazing! I don’t like the nuts they put on brownies.”
“Oh, I don’t like nuts in my brownies, either,” Daisy agreed with a shrug. “I just like them with extra chocolate.”
(Is this dead? If so I totally understand, I was just wondering)
(We’ve kind of taken a break from it, not knowing what to do next. We both would love to continue it, of course, but we need to know what comes next for these two.)
(Alrighty! Take your time, like I said I was just wondering :))
(Thank you! We’re trying to figure things out now.)
(No problem! And whatever you guys come up with, I’m sure it’ll be awesome!)
After the cake testing, the three finally decided to leave. Cameron was getting tired and hungry, which made him a little cranky.
“Do you have somewhere to be?” Arvil asked, breaking the silence that had taken over. Daisy was being uncharacteristically quiet and it bothered him. “Are you hungry?”
Daisy glanced over from her spot in the passenger seat and shook her head. “No, I’m free for the next couple of hours. And… Well, besides all the cake I ate, I guess I’m a little hungry for real food. Why do you ask?”
Arvil shrugged as he drove, keeping his gaze on the road. “I was thinking we could order takeout or something. Or go to Olive Garden. Have you ever gone there?”
“Yes, I’ve been to Olive Garden, Arvil,” Daisy said, shaking her head with a small smile. “I suppose we could go there… What do you think, Cam? Wanna go to lunch with us?”
He was a sucker for her smile. She probably wouldn’t ever realize that.
“I’m hungry,” Cameron piped up, a small pout on his lips.
“We’ll take that as a yes, then,” Arvil chuckled as he took a turn.
Daisy chuckled a little at the boy’s words, turning to glance out the window. Her smile fell slowly as her thoughts flowed through her head.
Kids were funny, always saying ridiculous things and doing something funny. Except when they were tired or mad and threw a fit. That was one of the reasons she wasn’t ready for a kid. Not yet. And… maybe not for a while. Maybe not with Arvil…
Arvil’s eyes fell on Daisy, and he furrowed his eyebrows. Had he done or said something wrong? She was just so… quiet. It also looked like she was lost in thoughts.
“Hey,” Arvil broke the silence again. “You okay?”
Daisy blinked and turned back to Arvil, nodding at him. “Yeah, I’m fine. Just— thinking,” she explained with a shrug.
“Penny for your thoughts?” he quirked an eyebrow as he took a right. “They seem far too deep to make you lose your smile like that.”
“It’s… nothing. Nothing we haven’t already talked about,” Daisy assured him, shaking her head a bit. She glanced back at Cameron before facing forward again.
She just… didn’t want to go there right now. They’d already talked about this, so why should she bring it up again? She didn’t want to, anyway. Plus, it wasn’t as if… No. No, she wouldn’t go there.
Arvil glanced at her a little while longer before turning back to the road.
“If you say so,” he muttered. Something they had already talked about…? “Just a few more minutes and we’re there, all right?”
