“Sure. Thank you for bringing me to lunch,” Daisy said, glancing at him quickly out of the corner of her eyes. “I probably would have forgotten otherwise.”
“Sure. Thank you for bringing me to lunch,” Daisy said, glancing at him quickly out of the corner of her eyes. “I probably would have forgotten otherwise.”
“That isn’t good. At least one of us should remember to eat,” he reprimanded her playfully. “Right, my dude?”
Cameron, who had been playing with the toy he brought, immediately looked up.
“Huh? What?”
Daisy couldn’t help the small smile and chuckle that made it past her lips. “Of course. Especially since one of us can’t remember to eat, like, ever. Unless his fiancée brings him food, that is.”
When he heard her chuckle, Arvil was pleased. Finally, she was smiling.
“Okay, that was uncalled for,” he tapped his fingers against the wheel. “I do remember to eat dinner, you know. Or the occasional breakfast.”
Daisy hummed, rolling her eyes as she relaxed back into her seat. “Right, right… And what do those meals usually consist of? Takeout or ramen?” she joked.
Arvil scowled playfully. “Takeout,” he muttered under his breath. “It’s takeout. And sometimes ramen, but mostly takeout.”
“I guess I should be bringing you real food, then,” Daisy mused with a small smile. “Maybe some soup or something. Or chicken pasta.”
Surprised, both of Arvil’s eyebrows shot up. “Made by you?” he asked in surprise. “Wouldn’t that be troublesome? You do have work, you know. Takeout is fine. Anything you bring is fine. It’s fine even if you don’t.”
“I’ll make it the night before. Leftovers from my supper,” Daisy said with a shrug. She chuckled a little and shook her head. “It’ll be fine, really, Arvil. It’s not a big deal for me to make some food.”
“Are you sure?” he repeated, glancing at her for a second before turning back to the road. “I don’t want you to burden yourself. You don’t have an obligation to bring me food, you know.”
“Arvil. Leftovers. It won’t be that hard. You have a microwave in your office or in the building somewhere, right?” Daisy asked, turning to him with a tilted head.
“I had a microwave installed in my office after last time,” he responded quickly, remembering the time he had to go and heat the food in the cafeteria.
Daisy blinked, her mind going back to the last time she’d brought him food. She blushed a little and cleared her throat.
“R-right. Of course,” she murmured, nodding quickly. “That just makes things easier, then.”
Arvil knew her mind had gone to the same memory that struck him. Their lips locked, desperation from both of them… they’d never talked about that again.
“It does,” he hummed instead. “It also saves me the energy from going all the way to the cafeteria to have it heated.”
Daisy smiled over at him again, somewhat amused. “Is that really so hard to do, though? Or is the big baby just lazy?”
“You know how I am,” Arvil looked over briefly to wink at her. “Your big baby is just extremely lazy.”
“My big baby? Mmhm, right,” Daisy chuckled, smirking a bit as she shook her head. “Maybe you should find some time to work out some days. You’re going to get fat if all you do is eat junk food and play video games.”
“Hey, have you even seen this body?” Arvil quirked an eyebrow, shooting her a suggestive smile. “I’ve been doing this for years, honey. I’m still fit.”
And there it was again, a pink hue coating her face. The blush returned to Daisy’s cheeks even as she rolled her eyes at Avril’s words.
“Yeah, yeah… When do you even have time for that, you workaholic?” she questioned.
When he caught the blush on her cheeks from the corner of his eye, he smirked.
“I go to the gym on the weekends,” he answered her with a chuckle. “I’m needed the least on Saturdays, and my dad mostly handles the work then. But hey, when we’re married, I bet you’ll drag me there every day, right?”
Daisy huffed a laugh and shook her head. “Every day? No. No, I don’t think either of us would have time for that. Two or three times a week, though, maybe.”
“I’ll have to rearrange my schedule after marriage, too,” Arvil mused. “Can’t give work all of my attention, right?”
“Right…” Daisy murmured, chewing on her lip. They would be expected to actually spend time together, more than just a lunch date once or twice a week. “Why don’t, uh, we talk about this later? After we drop Cam off.”
“All right,” he hummed, taking a turn into the parking lot. “And here we are. Olive Garden.”
After eating, they dropped Cameron home. His mother thanked them for taking care of him, and they stayed for a few minutes before they were out on the road again.
“Tired?” Arvil asked, drumming his fingers on the steering wheel. “Today was such a day, huh?”
Daisy hummed, shifting to look at him. “Yeah, I guess it was. I’m surprised Cameron didn’t get sick from all of those cupcakes,” she mused with a soft laugh. She was avoiding what they really needed to talk about, and she was sure he knew that as well as she did. But she would talk about it… soon…
