Daisy hardly knew what she was doing as she slowly let herself kiss him back. Should they even be doing this? They’d known each other for, what, a month? Two? But still… She wanted this, and it was obvious that he had, too.
Daisy hardly knew what she was doing as she slowly let herself kiss him back. Should they even be doing this? They’d known each other for, what, a month? Two? But still… She wanted this, and it was obvious that he had, too.
When she began to kiss him back, Arvil released another low growl. She wanted this. She definitely wanted this. His hand moved from her cheek to the back of her head, his other arm wrapping around her. Their lips moved together, and Arvil couldn’t remember the last time he enjoyed kissing someone this much. He liked the way her lips molded in his. He liked how they felt against his.
He liked the feeling that came with kissing her, too. He didn’t want to stop.
Daisy shivered at the sound, melting slightly into his arms. She let him pull her closer, and she wrapped her legs around him to do the same to him. Her own hands found their way around his neck, looping around him.
What was she even doing? She hadn’t thought through this, they clearly hadn’t thought through it… What were they going to do after this?
Fire burst through Arvil when she wrapped her legs around him to pull him closer. Did she even know what she was doing to him? Heck, even he didn’t know what was going on with him. All he knew was that they were kissing and that he didn’t want to stop.
He removed the other hand from the back of her head to wrap it around her as well, his thumbs rubbing circles into her skin. God, her lips were so soft, so delicious. They tasted like strawberry. He loved that flavor.
Just as Daisy was getting used to kissing him, just as she was beginning to think that this was okay, that it wasn’t wrong or weird… a knock sounded on the door. The door opened to reveal a man, an employee, who said tentatively, “Sir?” And he promptly froze at the sight of his boss making out with his fiancée.
Arvil pulled away with a growl, letting go of her mouth and looking over his shoulder with a scowl on his face. He hadn’t wanted to stop. What was with his employees, always coming in at the wrong time?
Then again, it had been a good thing. Everything about them was a lie. The more they did this, the more it’d be hard to let go.
“What?” He all but snarled at his employee. “What do you want?”
Daisy gaped at Arvil, even as he turned around. Her cheeks burned, and she looked away, avoiding the employee’s eyes. She could not believe they had been caught doing that…
The man at the door stuttered, twisting his hands together, his face even redder than Daisy’s. “Uh, your, um— Your father wanted to see you… In his office. Soon.”
Arvil sighed heavily, stepping away from Daisy, avoiding her gaze.
“Yeah. Tell him—tell him I’ll be there in a minute,” he ran a hand through his hair. “And for God’s sake, don’t come inside without my approval!”
The man nodded profusely. “Yes, sir. Sorry, sir. I will let him know,” he mumbled before slipping out, his head sucked in either shame or embarrassment.
Daisy coughed lightly and tried to slide down from the desk, her cheeks burning such a bright red. “So…”
Arvil ran another hand through his hair, heaving another sigh.
“I told you not to do that,” he muttered, not looking at her. “Sorry. I should have controlled myself.”
Daisy shook her head and crossed her arms over her chest, now standing in front of the desk instead of sitting on top of it. “No, I provoked you…” she murmured, placing the cold back of her hand against her cheek, one arm still around her waist. “I’m— I’m sorry…”
“I should go,” Arvil muttered, knowing if he looked at her, he’d want to kiss her again. He couldn’t do that. “You can stay if you’d like.”
“I should actually probably go, too,” Daisy sighed, rubbing her arms. She nodded and took a step away. “I’ll see you later, I guess.”
“Yeah,” Arvil muttered before he started for the door. “See you later, Daisy.”
What have I done…?
Daisy shook her head and began collecting her things again so that she could leave.
Without turning back, Arvil walked out the door. God, what had he done? Why did he have to kiss her? It ruined everything. This was supposed to be a lie. What were they going to do now?
[TIME SKIP: TWO DAYS LATER]
Arvil gritted his teeth in frustration. Two hours. They’d been here for two hours and yet they couldn’t decide on anything. Arvil and his team had gone to meet a potential ally industry to reach an agreement regarding their project. It had been two hours since they met up and four hours since Arvil had left home.
This trip had been decided off the bat. His father came to his office in the morning and told him he was going to the meeting instead of him. He barely had breakfast before he packed everything he needed, gathered his team and went.
But it had been two hours already and Arvil just wanted to leave.
Daisy had arrived at the office for lunch just like she would any other day. She had skipped out yesterday, having gone silent to him through any contact. Not that he tried to call. She assumed that was because he was still trying to figure things out just as much as she was herself. Maybe he understood her need for space. Maybe he needed some himself. But she didn’t get to ask him, even if she had wanted to, because he wasn’t there.
She had stepped into an empty office once more. No warning this time that he was gone, no one to tell her where he was. He hadn’t left a note, hadn’t called… Nothing.
So she called him herself.
During the meeting, Arvil felt his pocket vibrate. Usually, it was rude to look at phone calls during such important things. But it was so boring and annoying that Arvil couldn’t help himself. He dug out his phone.
Daisy Darling.
Realization struck. His face paled. He hadn’t told her he needed to leave. He hadn’t told her anything.
Arvik stood up from his seat without removing his eyes from his screen. “I need to take this call.”
He left the room before anyone could protect. Leaning against the wall, he answered the call. He was such a goddamn idiot.
The call picked up, and Daisy let out a slow breath.
“Where are you.” The question was quiet, her voice flat. “Nobody can tell me where you are or what you’re doing.”
Arvil rested his face in his free hand, her flat voice making him wince. Was she upset? Why? God, he missed her voice, too. The last time he saw her—he forced the thought away.
“I’m at a meeting,” he answered slowly. “Out of town.”
Daisy hummed, staring down at his desk. She stepped back and began to walk circles around the room.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” she asked, her voice hardly above a whisper.
“It slipped my mind,” Arvil cursed himself for the pathetic reason. “I had a lot going on.”
Why did she sound so goddamn upset? She should be pleased he wasn’t there, right? So why was she upset?
“Right. You forgot. Okay…” Daisy hummed disbelievingly. She shook her head, whispering her next words. “I had a lot on my mind, too. And yet… Yet I still showed up for lunch. Like always.”
Those words made Arvil wince. He’d screwed up.
“Daisy, I’m sorry. I should have told you,” he cursed, shaking his head. “I’ll get things finished here quickly and then come back. Okay?”
Why the hell was he acting like he really was her fiancée?
