“Dios I never thought about that,” Alexa ran her hand through her hair, “They know how to handle themselves. I only worry that the System will send them back. What about yours? They can probably pay to get out of this situation.”
“Dios I never thought about that,” Alexa ran her hand through her hair, “They know how to handle themselves. I only worry that the System will send them back. What about yours? They can probably pay to get out of this situation.”
"Oh, of course they can," Arsen agreed. "Dad's done things like this so many times that it's like a second nature for him." He shook his head. "It's a miracle that we've managed to stay in the System's good side."
Alexa scoffed and leaned back in the chair looking to the ceiling. Here she was worrying about her family getting deported over her stupid idea and he was sat there knowing his family could bail themselves out of this mess, "Of course he can."
"Well, it's more my grandfather," Arsen said, shrugging. "He donates a lot of money to the System, and they overlook it. It will be fine. Probably. Hopefully." He rubbed his face. "But it still would be better to see them." He glanced up at Alexa. "Do you want to see if we can arrange a meeting with your parents, maybe?"
"I, that would be nice," Alexa looked over at him with a slightly stunned look. It turned to a smile a few moments after before it fell again, "Would it be safe to do that?"
"Probably not, but I can see if it can be worked out. If the meeting with the Resistance works out, maybe we can get their help, too, to do it." Arsen shrugged. "I can try."
"Yeah maybe," Alexa responded with a little sigh. She let the smile tug on her lips once more, "Thank you for even thinking about trying."
Arsen shrugged, looking uncomfortable. "That's what friends do, isn't it?" He asked, trying for a small smile.
"Yeah, yeah it is," Alexa responded her smile growing, "Does this mean we're friends now rich boy?"
"Are we? Does this count as a friendship, or a partnership?" Arsen asked, raising an eyebrow at her, trying to fight against the smile that was threatening to cross his lips as well.
"I would say friendship," Alexa said glancing at him with a smile. She didn't bother trying to fight it, "I mean we were partners, but I think this is a little further than that. You don't mind being friends with a Theif like me?"
"I dunno," Arsen said, in a mock-despaired voice. "I might be shamed in polite society. Imagine being friends with a Thief! It would be horrible, and my reputation would be destroyed." He shook his head sadly. "I don't think it will work out."
Alexa shoved his shoulder a little as she laughed. She could tell that he was mocking, teasing, whatever, "Oh shuddup. It'll be fine and you know it."
"No it won't!" Arsen shouted dramatically, placing a hand on his head and leaning back in mock defeat. "I could die! You are such a heartless person!"
"If anyone's dying it'll be me," Alexa responded watching him while leaning on her hand, "You may die socially, but I would die literally."
"No you won't," Arsen said, waving a dismissive hand. "You're smart. You've got invisibility. You'll be fine."
"Aw you think I'm smart," Alexa responded with a slight laugh and coo.
"Smart enough." Arsen mock scowled. "Stop twisting my words around! It's not nice!"
Alexa was still laughing Arsen being unable to get any reaction from her whether he wanted one or not, "I'm simply saying what you said. And you said I'm smart."
"You're making me regret my words," Arsen said with an offended sniff. "Stop it, or I will take back every nice thing I've ever said to you."
"You wouldn't dare," Alexa responded looking at him with a bit of a pouty face. She knew he was joking, but it still hurt, "I will take back my words too."
"I absolutely do mean it," Arsen said, crossing his arms and sticking his nose into the air. "And if my memory serves me right, you've never given me a compliment, or a kind word, since we've met."
"I do remember a thing about discussing who had a better ass where I did stay you have a decent ass," Alexa responded with a little smile on. She couldn't keep the pout on for long.
"That doesn't count." Seeing her smile, Arsen broke into a grin. "I might forgive you if you give me a genuine compliment, you horrible person."
"Okay fine, you pretentious rich boy. You're actually kind of a nice person," Alexa responded with a little smile as she shrugged, "Does that count?"
