"Oh, I'm friends with those people who are actually smart." He smirked. "And rich." He let the door shut behind her and headed for the car, climbing in the driver side. He didn't open the door for her. He did unlock it, though, and buckled in his seatbelt.
Alexa rolled her eyes as she got in on the passenger side. Of course, he would be friends with other rich kids. She buckled up and leaned back in her seat, "So as long as they have money they can be your friend? Love those standards."
"It's great," Arsen said sweetly. "We can look down on everyone else." He started the car and backed out into the typical New York traffic.
"Huh, so I guess we're never going to be friends. I can live with that," Alexa responded letting herself relax in her seat. It wasn't like she needed friends anyway, but she hadn't minded Arsen when they were just poking fun at each others.
He rolled his eyes. It wasn't what he had meant but… he blinked. Since when had he been on friendly terms with a Lowslum? There was something wrong with him. He needed to get his mind checked. "Well, good. I'm glad. I'd be devastated if you couldn't."
"So you do care," Alexa responded with a smirk, "Once we get this all over, we never have to talk to each other again."
"Can't wait for that time," he said cheerfully, turning a corner and nearly running into a person who was crossing the road, oblivious to the cars beeping at him to go faster. Arsen flipped the guy off as he sped past, but the guy didn't even blink, or look in his direction.
Alexa watched the minor interaction but was more focused on the man who paid almost no attention. Her quip fell off her tongue, "Yeah… That guy seemed a little off, didn't he? Even for a New Yorker."
"Actually? That's normal." Arsen shot her a grin. "For the drunkards and weed users, it's normal behavior. I'm actually surprised that he managed to cross the road without falling."
Alexa smiled back at Arsen even though the encounter was still in her head. It just didn't sit right with her, "Yeah yeah. He probably was high as shit or something to that sort."
"Oh, he absolutely was," Arsen agreed. He pulled into the parking lot of the tavern, and parked the rental car, exiting, before waiting for Alexa. "Here we are."
Alexa stepped out of the vehicle and saw the tavern. She began to walk over to the entrance, "Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go in."
"Well, someone's impatient," Arsen said with a scoff. He pulled the door open. It was noisy inside, full, but not that full compared to others. He wove his way through the tables to the bar.
Alexa relaxed and morphed with the atmosphere of the bar. It was just an instinct to try and match the other people in the area. She walked up to the bar enjoy the pleasant noise and slight room compared to most bars in the area, "I wouldn't call it impatient, I'd call it pushy."
"They're technically the same thing," he said, rolling his eyes. He sat down at the bar and turned to her. "Do you want anything?"
"Root beer would be nice," Alexa responded with a slight shrug. She was underage so alcohol was out of the question, at least her ordering it was.
He grinned. "All right." The bartender moved over to them, and Arsen ordered a root beer and something called a Rebel's Drug. "And make it fast. We need to leave soon. There's stuff to be done, I don't have time to be here."
It must have been a code word, because the bartender's eyes sparkled, and he chuckled. "Right away, young sir." He brought back a bottle of root beer and a cup of clear liquid. He slipped a piece of paper into Arsen's hand as he did so, then backed away, going to serve the next person.
A Rebel's Drug? Could the drink name be any more obvious? Alexa thought to herself. She didn't make any comment taking the root beer from the counter. She spotted the paper in his hand and looked at him, "We get the goods?"
"Yup," Arsen said, nodding." He nodded his head at the bottle in her hand. "You want to go back to the hotel and drink it there?"
Alexa nodded and stood up from where the bar was, "That would be nice."
"Well then, come along." He stood up to go, moving to the door and opening it. What he saw made him groan. "Well, shit."
Alexa looked to him and then out the door, "What is it?"
"Look at the car." There were people in black clothes standing around the car, glancing at the door to the Tavern. Arsen cursed. "We must not have been careful enough. Look at the uniform, it's the System."
"Shit," Alexa cursed under her breath recognizing them now. She took a deep breath and grabbed Arsen's hand whether he wanted her to or not ready to go invisible at a moments notice, "Well we better run then."
"To where? They can see the enterance… how are we supposed to run?" Arsen glanced around.
