She smiled against the kiss and soon broke it, "So, this place" she muttered
“This place . . . “ Evelyn murmured. “Right, right!” she said, snapping out of her brief daze. “Sorry,” she said, starting her car.
She laughed lightly, turning to face the front window.
(Omg I’m so sorry for not responding, this just kinda got lost in all my stuff)
Evelyn started driving, shifting her focus to the road. “I think you’ll like this place,” she said to Aaliyah. “It’s perfect for a rainy day like today.”
"That's good" she replied, smiling brightly. It was an unusually busy day for it to be raining, but she checked the clock and concluded it rush hour, nodding her head in understanding.
"Would you like to pick the music?" Evelyn asked, picking up the aux chord with one hand and handing it to Aaliyah.
She plugged her phone it, smiling at Evelyn. She scrolled through her playlist before picking out "Stars and Moons" by Dizzy.
Evelyn hadn’t heard the song before but listened to it as she drove. Every so often she woul sneak a glance at Aaliyah. All too soon, she pulled up at a small coffee shop with brick walls. It had tall glass windows that were steamy. Evelyn parked right in front, grabbed her umbrella, and came around to Aaliyah’s side of the car. She opened her door and held the umbrella over her. Evelyn offered her arm. “Shall we? It’s much warmer in there.”
Aaliyah took her arm and quickly hopped out of the car, "We shall" she replied, closing the car door behind her.
Evelyn started to say something, but thought better of it, not wanting to yell over the pouring rain. They went into the cafe and Evelyn shook off her umbrella and placed it in the umbrella stand. "This is my favorite place to go when it's raining like this," she said. "The owner has this really expensive imported English tea, but she makes it twenty percent off when it's raining like this. Plus, they have the best spot in town to just sit and watch the rain." Evelyn gestured to the tall windows with tables nearby them.
"It definitely seems like it" she replied, smiling softly as they walked into the tiny shop.
"God, it's pouring out there." Evelyn peaked out the glass door at the pouring rain. She turned to Aaliyah. "Should we order?"
“Mmm hmm” she hummed, smiling as the warm air slipped over her as she stepped inside
Evelyn walked over to where they could see the menu, pulling Aaliyah along with her. Once there, she looked at Aaliyah, smiling wistfully.
She ordered what she wanted and paid for the both of them, putting any change in the donation bin integrated into the counter.
Evelyn smiled at Aaliyah as they waited for their drinks. "You didn't have to pay for me. I took us here, after all."
"That's the point. You brought me here, it's the least I could do" she replied, taking her drink off the counter when it arrived.
"Well, thank you," Evelyn replied, smiling almost shyly at Aaliyah. She didn't exactly feel nervous, but she could feel the butterflies fluttering in her stomach. Her drink was ready, so she grabbed it. "Where would you like to sit?" she asked Aaliyah.
"By the window?" she asked, gesturing to the array of tables that were near it.
"Lovely." Evelyn walked over to a table by the window and sat down. She was about to take a sip of her tea, then realized she needed cream and sugar. "I'll be right back," she said, walking over to the bar and adding cream and sugar into her warm beverage. She came back to the table saying, "All better now," and sat down. She took a small sip. "Ahh. Tastes just like home."
She smiled at her remark. "I drink my coffee black, I don't know why" she explained, brushing a lock of hair behind her ear as she looked out the window at the small droplets of rain.
Evelyn looked up. "No offense, love, but that sounds disgusting." She leaned forward. "How the hell do you do it?"
"I don't know" she replied, laughing slightly. Her eyes sparkled in the dim sunlight outside, the lights down the street reflecting into the window.
