Evelyn's eyes opened groggily. She blinked, forgetting where she was. But once she saw Aaliyah in her arms, she immediately remembered where she was and last night. She smiled, seeing Aaliyah's eyes open, and feeling her stir. "Morning."
"Morning." she hummed, rolling around to face her, kissing her cheek as she woke up. "Last night was nice…" she mumbled, nuzzling her neck.
"Last night was very nice," Evelyn said with a smile, stroking Aaliyah's hair. Suddenly she gasped, her eyes widening. "What time is it?"
"Ten ish" she replied, worried a bit about her sudden urgence
"Shit," Evelyn muttered. She planted a quick kiss on Aaliyah's cheek, then scrambled out of bed, pulling her clothes on. Her phone said it was 10:09. "Shit, shit, shit."
"What's the matter?" she asked, shifting so she was sitting up. She didn't bother to cover herself.
"I've got class in twenty minutes at the other end of campus and I walked here." She pulled on her pants form off the floor. "Oh bloody hell, I can not be late."
"Oh, my classes don't start until twelve" she hummed, knowing she probably already knew
"Lucky." Evelyn felt her breathing speed up and her hands start to shake. She squeezed her eyes shut and tried to take deep breaths, but it didn't calm her down at all. Whatever, she tried to tell herself. If I'm late, I'm late. But this professor locks the door five minutes into class. If I'm late I miss the class. That's a waste of money. Money that I can't waste. And I don't know anyone in that class so I can't ask for anyone's notes. And the professor's gonna notice that I wasn't in class and refuse to help me in his office hours. Then I'm not gonna know what I need to know for the final and I'm going to fail and . . . Evelyn hadn't realized, but her hand came up to tightly grip her hair, to the point where she was at danger of pulling it out.
Aaliyah rushed over to her, holding her in her arms, "Hey, hey it's gonna be ok. It's ok to miss one class." she mumbled softly into her hair, gently removing her hands from it. She had anxiety attacks herself before, but it was different for everyone. She just calmly continued to run her fingers through Evelyn's hair, melting to the floor with her to give her legs a break.
Evelyn squeezed her eyes shut and let Aaliyah guide her to the floor. Her breaths were still shallow and fast, but at least she wasn't pulling at her hair. Aaliyah stroking her hair helped. Even though her thoughts were still racing and she could still feel her heart trying to leap out of her chest, she could also feel herself starting to calm down. "Th-thanks," she stuttered out, clenching her shaking hands into fists.
She kissed her forehead and continued stroking her hair, "It's nothing…as long as you're ok" she mumbled.
Evelyn leaned into Aaliyah slightly. She put her hand on her chest, focusing on the other girl's heartbeat, and trying to slow her's down to match it. It was a trick she had learned that helped calm her down. She breathed in the scent of her, not wanting to move. But she pulled herself away anyways. "I think I'm okay now." Evelyn looked down at her phone. "Christ, now I really have to go," she said, chuckling weakly. She rubbed her hand over her face and wiped away tears she didn't remember shedding. Evelyn stood up, fully dressed, and started walking towards Aaliyah's bedroom door. "I'll call you. Today." She paused. "Is that alright?"
"Yes, it's perfect. Just don't worry ok?" she replied, holding up her bag for her to take.
“No promises,” Evelyn said with a weak smile and a wink.
She smiled and watched her move out the door and heard the go down the stairs. That same butterfly feeling that she had the time they met returned, a smile spreading across her face and showing her dimples.

Evelyn walked out of her class went straight to her dorm. She went up the elevator, down the hall, opened her door, and collapsed on her bed. After a moment, she took a deep breath and grabbed her phone from her bag. She opened Aaliyah's contact and smiled. She had used one of the photos she had taken of her as her contact picture. She pressed the call button and held her phone up to her ear.
She rushed over to the kitchen and turning the volume of the t.v down as she clicked the answer button, "Hello?" she asked.
"Hey," Evelyn said, perking up and sitting up at the sound of Aaliyah's voice. "How are you?"
"Oh, hey Evelyn. I'm good, you?" she asked, resting her stance and leaning on the counter.
"I'm better now, thanks. Evelyn paused, coming to a realization. "Hang on, do you not have caller id?"
"Nope" she replied, a small smile on her face
“Ah. Your semi-cold tone makes sense now. I was afraid you were upset at me about something.”
