Cas noticed him and cowered a bit, hurrying along and trying to ignore him entirely. He really didn't want to deal with this right now.
Cas noticed him and cowered a bit, hurrying along and trying to ignore him entirely. He really didn't want to deal with this right now.
“Where are you going?” Brandon asked, calling after him. The boy definitely looked like he had woken up on the wrong side of the bed.
Cas kept walking, trying to block out Brandon's voice. If I can just get to a classroom, or stay in the crowd, he can't do anything to me… right?
Brandon followed Cas, getting angry that he had been ignored. “What’s your deal, man? Why don’t you want to talk to me?” he demanded.
"Because you're a dick and I have no interest in dealing with you again. Now please leave me alone." Cas kept walking, growing increasingly annoyed.
“Excuse me?” Brandon scoffed. “I’m not a dick, you’re being a dick. If this is about earlier, we weren’t talking to you.”
"You were definitely talking about me, and I would prefer for you to leave me alone." Cas hated how Brandon towered over him. It made him feel weak. "I'm just trying to go to class."
Brandon rolled his eyes. “Fine, be that way then you dick,” he responded, storming off.
Cas sighed and shook his head, eventually finding his class with the help of some random teacher he stumbled across. He sat down at the desk he was told to and put his things down.
For the rest of day, Nick was just waiting until the final bell rang. When it did, he practically jumped from his seat and hurried out the door of the classroom, heading to his locker to get the rest of his stuff and leave.
Cas eventually managed to find his locker, which was thankfully not locked. There wasn't anything in there at the moment anyways. He sighed and put down the books he wasn't going to need at home.
Nick's friend Ian noticed Cas and gave him a condescending look as he passed, then went to go talk to Nick, who was caught up in conversation. He didn't seem to notice his friends' behavior towards Cas, not being a very observant person.
Cas sighed and closed his locker, leaving it unlocked since he knew he was not going to be able to unlock it tomorrow. He gathered the things he needed and started walking towards the exit.
Nick and his group of friends walked towards the exit as well, and Nick waved at Cas with a smile while one of his friends glared at Cas. Two others laughed quietly, behind Nick's back.
Cas waved to Nick and glared right back at Nick's friend as he walked out. His foster parents were too busy with work to pick him up, so he was walking home.
Nick said goodbye to most of his friends outside of the school, and he rode the bus home. Once he got there, he played video games as usual.
Cas felt eyes on his back and heard faint footsteps. He was being followed. His heart sped up a bit and he picked up the pace, hoping the boys would just leave him alone eventually.
Brandon walked faster, trying to keep up with Cas. "Why are you running away?" he asked loudly, turning to Ian. "What a loser," he added more quietly.
Cas moved a bit more quickly, his heart racing now. He didn't know what the boys planned to do to him, but he didn't want to stick around and find out.
"What's your problem?" Ian asked, both of them walking faster to catch up. "Don't you wanna be friends?" He laughed mockingly.
Cas stayed silent, his pace now at a jog. He gripped his books tighter and kept his eyes firmly on the stretch of sidewalk in front of him.
"Slow down!" Ian called, still laughing. "Can't you take a joke?" He fished around in his lunchbox for something to throw.
"Leave me alone!" He broke into a run, panting a bit now. He was starting to feel a bit lightheaded from the exertion, but he really didn't want them to catch him. He could pass out at home if need be.
Ian managed to find half of an uneaten sandwich and threw it at Cas, though he wasn’t exactly the most athletic. Both Ian and Brandon laughing anyway before turning around and walking away. Neither of them cared enough to chase him.
Cas stumbled a bit when something hit him, but managed to stay up. He sighed softly and stopped in the middle of the sidewalk when the boys left him alone.
