Lachy yawned softly, then smiled as he slipped his hand into Aidan's as he stood from the seat, "Ready to go be the heros everyone thinks we are?"
Lachy yawned softly, then smiled as he slipped his hand into Aidan's as he stood from the seat, "Ready to go be the heros everyone thinks we are?"
“Ready as I’ll ever be.” He said, squeezing Lachy’s hand gently. He took a deep breath. “Well….here we go.” He started really feeling the anxiety again. What if they couldn’t be the saviors everyone needed them to be?
Lachy returned the squeeze. Even though he wanted to keep holding his hand, he let go. If Aidan grabbed it again he wouldn't protest. He nodded once before heading to the door where Mike was waiting with a soft smile.
"Hi boys. The meeting is this way." He said, leading them across the grounds.
When Lachy let go, Aidan let him. He knew they’d be getting stared at enough anyway, and he didn’t want to give them a real reason to be staring. But the whole time they walked, Aidan would hover close to Lachy, not wanting to be too far away from him.
Mike led them through the camp, weaving through different houses and cabins, gardens and work out spaces. People were practicing magic everywhere, honing their powers, getting ready to fight. Lachy found it all a little over whelming and brushed up against Aidan's side.
Aidan had to admit he found it a little overwhelming as well. So when the other brushed up against his side, he gently took Lachy’s hand in his own, reassuring them both. He didn’t say a word as he did so, he just kept walking.
Lachy flushed red, turning his head away in an attempt to hide it from Aidan, even if it didn't quite work all that well. He gave the others hand a squeeze, a silent thank you for the comfort.
He looked over at him briefly, smiling quickly. He was happy to be able to help his friend feel at least a little bit calmer.
They moved through the camp with ease. Soon enough, they were at a fairly large cabin that resembled more of a church or a medieval throne room then anything. Mike held the doors open for them. On the inside was a large table with the elders of the camp seated around it. At the top, were three empty seats.
Instantly, Aidan felt his nervousness creep back up again. His grip tightened a bit on Lachy’s hand, needing reassurance. It still didn’t seem real you know, being someone that a prophecy was about. But now, it was very much real. These people expected the two of them to be able to help.
Lachy was quick to squeeze back. He was in the same boat. Nervous and scared for what these people might want of them. Mike led them up to the front, gesturing to two of the seats.
Aidan nodded in acknowledgment, letting go of Lachy’s hand briefly to sit down. But he quickly took hold of it again once they were sitting down.
Lachy bit his lip as he seated, a little disappointed when the other let go but that feeling was gone when Aidan took his hand again.
Mike sat next to Aidan, "Would you care to introduce yourselves?" He asked.
((Aidan internally: no not really))
He nodded before addressing the other people at the table. “Well..I’m Aidan, and this is Lachy.”
(Me when my mum asks me to introduce myself to her work friends)
Lachy waved with his free hand and offered a small smile, quietly thanking the other for introducing him so he didn't have to.
"And can you explain what your powers are?" Mike asked.
((Mooooood))
“Well my powers are all fire based,” he began to explain. “The intensity of it usually depends on my mood. And I can spread it to whatever part of my body that I want really.” He said before looking over at Lachy. He didn’t know enough about the other man’s powers to be able to explain them.
Lachy bit his lip, really not wanting to talk but he supposed he would have to, "Um, I can control light and darkness. Thought not really the latter… I don't do it that often." He rubbed at the back of his neck with his free hand.
Aidan squeezed Lachy’s hand gently, kind of nodding to reaffirm what Lachy had said. He waited to see how the council would process this.
The adults looked at each other and murmured softly, processing the information. One female at the end of the table spoke up, "How long have you both worked together?"
“Um not too long. Only a week maybe?” It felt crazy to say but it really hadn’t been that long. The rest of his life before Lachy didn’t even seem to matter that much.
There was some more mumbling. Looks of disbelief and concern marring all their faces. The same woman spoke up again, "Only a week? How can you work together when you barely know each other?"
He shrugged, reminding himself to stay calm. “We’re learning. And so far, we already work together pretty well.”
They went quiet for a few moments. Another man at the end of the table spoke, "We weren't expecting you to be so.. young. Do you think you can handle this?"
“It’s not exactly like we have a choice, right?” He pointed out. “So I think we can handle it.” He said, looking over at Lachy.
Lachy nodded softly, "Well I mean… it's not like we're going into battle right away. We have time to train together, yeah?"
Mike nodded, "Yes, we have training grounds all set up for the both of you. They're ready to use whenever."
