Autumn shook her head. “No, I want to talk to you. We can just sit on the couch.”
Autumn shook her head. “No, I want to talk to you. We can just sit on the couch.”
Alex set her down and shut the car door. He suddenly felt nervous. Very nervous. He nodded, locked the door and led her inside, sitting on his couch.
Autumn followed and sat beside him on the couch. Chewing on her lip again, she stared down at her hands.
“I’m sorry,” she started in a whisper. “I just can’t help but feel like I don’t deserve you. You’re too good for me, when I haven’t done anything for you…”
Alex grabbed her hands and shook his head. “Autumn, I don’t want you to try and do something for me. I want you. You’re enough.” He lifted her head, his eyes begging her to understand.
“I just… I told you how my parents left me to practically raise me sister, right?” Autumn asked, her eyes flicking across his face as she went back to biting her lip.
Alex chewed on his tongue and nodded. “Yeah. You did.”
“Well…” Autumn trailed off as she thought about how to say what she wanted to. “Ever since then, I’ve had a hard time letting people into my life. You were special; I trusted you almost immediately. But then we were joking about a house and dogs, and I… I don’t know… It made me think about the future. My parents told me they loved me, and then they left. And now you tell me you love me, and it’s hard for me to remember that you won’t leave me, that I trust you…”
Alex chewed on his lip and pulled her into a hug. He didn’t know really how to respond. He just wanted her to know that he was there for her. Forever. Through thick and thin.
He kissed her lips after a moment of silence. “I’m sorry. I’ll never leave you. Never.” The thought of him leaving disgusted him.
Autumn nodded and buried her face in his neck, a few tears escaping from their prison behind her eyelids.
“Thank you,” she choked out.
Alex squeezed her close and wrapped his legs around her too. To pull her close. “Don’t thank me, baby.”
(Because the specification was needed. Lol.)
“I can’t help it. I’m just thankful for you,” Autumn whispered.
(Lol. Unnecessary is unnecessary.)
Alex leaned his head on hers and kissed her cheek. “I’m thankful for you, too, babe.”
Autumn hummed and curled closer to him. She was really glad she had him.
Alex wrapped his arms around her and laid down with her. He kissed her softly.
“I love you.”
“I love you, too,” Autumn murmured back, nuzzling his cheek gently.
Alex smiled and hugged her closer. “You’re the strongest woman I know.” He kissed her again.
Autumn kissed him back softly. “I’m not strong…”
Alex shook his head. “You’re the strongest woman I know, and I mean it.”
“Well, thanks,” Autumn murmured, burying her face in his neck again.
Alex smiled and rubbed her back. “You’re welcome, baby.”
Autumn hummed in response and wrapped her arms around him, tugging him closer. She was so thankful she had him; he was so good to her.
Alex curled up around her, rubbing her back gently. He shut his eyes happily. She was so sweet and strong. He was so glad he had her by his side.
“I don’t want to fall asleep again,” Autumn murmured into Alex’s neck, her arms tightening around him.
Alex opened his eyes. “Let’s just snuggle, then.”
“Snuggling is good,” Autumn said with a hum.
