"You're feeding them….with noise?" The thought ran though Tyler's head. "How the fuck are you doing that? They eat flash, not sound waves."
"You're feeding them….with noise?" The thought ran though Tyler's head. "How the fuck are you doing that? They eat flash, not sound waves."
"I'm not feeding them yet." Caspian said with an eye roll. He pulled something from his belt pocket, and cast a quick spell, then threw it into the center of the sharks. It grew into a mass, and the sharks started eating. "The humming is a summons." He explained.
He rolled his eyes, sighing. "You coulda just said that!" He sighed, voice annoyed. He was slowly starting to regret his decision, but didn't show it.
"Sorry." Caspian said with a shrug. He wasn't exactly sure…what to say to this person. For a long time, his only interaction with others had been with his mentor, and…his mentor hadn't been a good person. Caspian touched the strands of white in his hair.
"Is this all you do? Feed sharks?" This wasn't what Tyler was expecting. He had been expecting magic and rituals and that kind of stuff, and all he found was shark feeding.
Caspian suppressed another eye roll. "No. This is just what happened to be on my schedule today."
"So then what do you normally do?" He asked, staring at the other merman.
"Lots of things." He replied with a shrug.
"Like what?" He was genuinely wanting to know, but it seemed like Caspian wasn't going to answer.
"Practice. Make sure the boundaries are still complete." Make sure my mentor still can't return and finish the job of killing me. "I don't know. Depends on the day."
"Do you have a favourite activity?" Tyler knew he was being a little annoying, and he was kind of trying.
Caspian shrugged. "Not really." He said softly. The sharks finished eating, and swam away one by one.
"Are you sure? Everyone has at least one thing that they prefer to do. Even someone like you must have to."
"Someone like me?" He echoed, starting to swim back upwards. "And what do you mean by that?"
"Whoa!" Tyler defended, moving back slightly. "I don't mean it in a bad way! It's just…well, you seem like a loner. So I was just trying to say….you know what, nevermind."
Caspian shook his head. "It's fine…" He said quietly. "Besides…what I prefer to do could be considered…odd."
"Well I like odd," Tyler said, smiling softly. "My sister's quite odd. She can control land matter, like what's found on the surface. But we don't have any of that down here, so it's a useless power."
Caspian snorted. "Ah. I prefer to learn new spells. I guess." He shrugged.
"That's….interesting? I normally just swim. I know everyone else does it, but I'm fast. I cover ground. I see things that no one else would see."
Caspian nodded. "I see." He said. He sighed softly as they came out of the abyss, releasing the spell.
"So, um…where are we gonna go now? We still have a full day ahead of us."
"Im going home. I have something I need to do. You can come with me, if you want to." Caspian replied.
"Of course I'm coming with you: you said I could spend the whole day with you. I'm not giving that up now."
Caspian sighed. "Fine." He headed towards his home, silver tail flashing. The scars on it were obvious.
Tyler spotted the scars on Caspian's tail, but he ignored them. He felt like it would be too invasive if he asked.
