"Well did you want to go back there?"
"Well did you want to go back there?"
"No…but that's not my point. Then again, it's not like I had any to deal with before since everyone in that house hated me."
"I can tell you know, no one in this house will hate you."
"I don't know…" She chewed her lip but tried to ignore her thoughts.
"The twins love you, Fiona and hell, my father defended you earlier. That's a clear sign he doesn't hate you."
"Or that he just wants you to be married so that he can get rid of both of us."
He sighed, "Fiona, I might hate him, and he may hate me, but we're still family. He wouldn't kick me or us out."
"And you know that how?"
"Because I've lived with him my entire life and if he wanted to kick me out he already would have."
She fell quiet, still doubtful but she didn't say anything more.
He sighed again, resting his chin atop her head.
"How did it manage to get this bad?"
"What do you mean, love?"
"I mean just that. They all went from sad to angry to abusive and I was the only one to notice. How did it get this bad?"
"Well I… I don't know. I don't know your siblings or your father, but I do know that it shouldn't have gone the way it did."
"Usually it's a lot worse, they just tone it down in public."
"I'm glad you're out of there then. That you're safe here."
"Oh no, they'll be back. The longer this goes on, the more times they'll come back trying to retrieve their mistake so she doesn't infect everyone else."
"Don't you dare refer to yourself as a mistake. You're not a mistake, you're a miracle, and you do not 'infect' anyway and I'll fight you on that."
"But that's what I am! My father never wanted a girl, he wanted a family of boys. So when I came along, he tried to convince my mother to drop me off on the streets!"
"The clearly your father is a twat. No child is a mistake, you're not a bloody mistake, and don't you ever think that. Your father is wrong."
This was so unusual for her. She was used to being ignored, pushed aside, forgotten. She was still reeling from this. "Or maybe you're wrong and just don't want to admit it."
"I love you so much Fiona, why in the ever loving name of god, would I think you're a mistake? Why would I agree with a man that has said all these awful things to you? I wouldn't, because I know I'm right."
"I don't know, they always ring true to me. I've always meant nothing to them, I guess it made me mean nothing to myself as well."
“You don’t mean nothing to me. You mean everything. You’re my everything.”
