(sorry for the wait, turns out I'm working all day today)
Fiel's sharp eyes spotted movement far below, in the garden where he'd sat with Lukas the day before. It was Lukas again, sitting down by the rocks they'd passed, looking calm and thoughtful. For a second Fiel was tempted to fly down and say hello, but something made him hesitate. He vaguely remembered seeing words carved on the stones, as if they represented something. They reminded him of the cairns at the top of the mountain above his home, engraved with the names and good deeds of his ancestors. Perhaps Lukas's people had a similar tradition. If so, the last thing Fiel wanted to do was intrude on a private moment.
Instead, he looped in slow circles and figure-eights over the castle, planning to return to his room soon and hoping Lukas didn't see him and think he was snooping.
Lukas stood up, "Bye Justin" He said before turning around and walking back to the castle. He started humming quietly to himself as he walked. He passed a few servants and spoke to them for a few moments each. He wondered if Fiel was awake, but decided not to go and check. He went to the kitchen and sat at the table waiting for the cook to finish making breakfast.
Soon, Fiel swooped down to his own window and landed there. The sill was too narrow to make a good perch, and after a moment of nearly falling backwards to earth, he was forced to tuck his wings in and tumble forward onto his bedroom carpet. Not very graceful, but at least he was unhurt. He took a little more time to make himself presentable, then headed off in search of food.
When he got to the kitchens, he was happy to see Lukas already there. "Good morning," he said, making his wings and tail vanish so he wouldn't collide with any of the bustling servants. "Mind if I sit with you while I eat?"
Lukas smiled at Fiel, "that would be nice, How did you sleep?" He asked as the cook set two plates of breakfast on the table. They had eggs, bread, and fruit. Lukas started eating, focusing on his food, more than well anything else.
"I slept very well," Fiel replied. The food smelled delicious, and he accepted it gratefully. "By the way, I should have asked last night—do you think anyone would mind if I went on short flights over the castle while I'm here? Is there a better place for me to go? I don't want to make anyone feel spied-on."
"I don't know, you could always fly over the forest…but I don't think my father would be all that happy if he caught you he might think you were spying, he can be a bit paranoid" Lukas shrugged.
"I'll keep that in mind. I would hate to lose his trust at this crucial juncture." Fiel tried to remember his manners and eat slowly, despite his hunger. "Speaking of which, do you know when your father will begin seeing to the day's business? I want to speak to him as soon as possible about our idea to let you visit my kingdom."
"um he should be eating breakfast now..but I think by the time you get done eating, at this rate that is, he will have started doing kingly stuff" Lukas said, having already finished his food.
Fiel nodded. "All right. I'll go see him shortly, then. Afterwards, where can I find you? I would like to tell you what he says right away."
Lukas shrugged, "I think I will grab a book and head to the garden" He wanted to be alone for a while anyway.
(Off to bed, see you!)
"I will meet you there, then. I hope you enjoy your book." Fiel finished off the rest of his meal and stood, giving Lukas a smile. "Wish me luck."
(night)
Lukas smiled, " you probably need all the luck you can get"
Fiel paused at the door and winked. "Oh I don't know, they say we Tarilonans can be quite charming when we want to be."
As he walked off down the hall, he winced. Was that a weird thing to say? Why had he winked? Hopefully Lukas didn't take that the wrong way. Picking up the pace, he went in search of the king.
Unfortunately, he soon realized that he did not remember where to go. In fact he was quite lost. Finally, he was forced to approach a passing servant and ask for directions.
"Excuse me," he said politely. "I am looking for the king concerning matters of business. Could you please show me where he holds court?"
Lukas had blushes at what Feil has said. He stood up and quickly walked to the library grabbing a random book he headed to the garden and sat in front of the rock.
The server smiled at Feil, “yes follow me” she said leading Feil to the Kings study, “he should be in there”
"Thank-you very much." Fiel gave the servant a grateful nod. This time he'd done his best to memorize the route in case he had to come again. Now he turned and took a deep breath before knocking on the king's study door.
"enter" the king said, he was sitting at his desk looking over papers.
Fiel obeyed, giving the king a deep bow as was expected. "Good morning, your majesty. Firstly, I would like to thank you for your continued hospitality. Your kingdom is quite beautiful and its people are kind." He was trying to be extra polite, much as he felt that this man may not deserve it. He wanted to give his and Lukas's plan the best chances of success, and disrespecting the king would not help their case.
"In addition, if you will lend me your attention a moment longer, I have a proposition for your consideration. It relates to your son, Prince Lukas, whom I have been introduced to and spoken with since our last meeting."
"And what do you propose with him"?" The king asked, his voice showing the spite he felt for Lukas.
Fiel did his best to ignore the king's tone. "Prince Lukas has informed me that he is currently seeing suitors. It just so happens that I have two sisters who are doing the same. Unfortunately, it is a strict custom in my kingdom that young ladies should not leave the castle until they are married, much as they would like to come visit. With your blessing, therefor, I would be honored to bring Prince Lukas back to my home so that he may meet my sisters. Perhaps one of them will be just what he's looking for."
(gtg, seeya later!)
The king thought for a moment, "fine"
Fiel blinked, caught off-guard. He'd expected the king to at least question him, or even refuse outright. But then again, he didn't seem to care what his son did as long as he married eventually.
Thinking this, he dipped his head. "Very well, your majesty. Thank-you. In that case, there merely remains the matter of when we depart. I do not know if you still require my presence to work out the details of our alliance, but I will of course be willing to remain here as long as I am needed. Likewise, I would not want to steal the prince away from his duties too soon, as he may be a guest in my kingdom for a week or more. In short, we will only leave with your permission."
The king waved his hand, “he has nothing important to do. Never has, never will. Besides I have a letter to send to your Queen(?)”
(Yep, Queen is correct ^^)
"A letter? Certainly. I will deliver it to her with all speed." Fiel was pleasantly surprised—despite the king's rudeness, this was going very smoothly. "In that case, I shall begin preparations to return home this very morning. Do you have the letter ready now, or shall I return for it later?"
The king held out an envelope, it was sealed with wax, "it is here."
Fiel took the letter and tucked it in his shirt pocket. "I am sure Queen Ewinna will be greatly interested to hear from you, your majesty. If that is all, I shall take my leave. Good day." Bowing a final time, he turned with relief and quietly slipped through the door. Now to find Lukas and tell him the good news.
