Lukas nodded, "its not like you know the way there anyway, so it would be better if I came" He said laughing slightly. "but yeah I will accompany you."
Lukas nodded, "its not like you know the way there anyway, so it would be better if I came" He said laughing slightly. "but yeah I will accompany you."
Fiel rubbed the back of his neck ruefully. "You're right. Thank-you. Is it very far, then? Do you go there often?"
Lukas shrugged, "I go there when I want to talk to the townsfolk, or to hide from my parents..but It is a really nice place" He said standing up.
Fiel followed him. "I should like to see it. Most of the markets back home are fairly small and boring. But who knows, maybe soon there will be Tarilonan stalls here in this country, and vise versa."
(I gtg for the afternoon, see you tonight hopefully)
"that would improve trade, and make it easier to get a vast varieity of things" Lukas nodded leading the way to the market, once there he stopped at the front of it, there were rows and rows of stalls. Each with individaul things, "Vernor is a very large kingdom, and we have many villages, each of wich has many stalls here, and of course the farmers all have their own, as well as craftsman and others. IT is a very large market"
Fiel's eyes widened at the sight of so many different people and wares on all sides, at the colorful hubbub of it all. Slightly embarrassed, he tried to hide his amazement, but the fact was that he'd never been to such a busy market before and it was giving him a bit of culture shock.
"I should be able to find everything I need here," he said in a small voice. "Um….the first thing I was going to look for was some earrings for my sister. Do you know where I should look?"
Lukas nodded and smiled at how shocked Fiel was, "I will show you the best place for them" He said and grabbed Fiel's hand and led him to a stall. He had grabbed his hand so that he would not lose Fiel in the busy market.
Fiel was all right with being towed along through the crowd. Crowds were unfamiliar to him. He'd grown up in a large family, yes, but they were family. The population of his kingdom was small, and he rarely had to be up close and personal with more than a dozen of them at a time. This surging mass of strangers was a little overwhelming.
When they reached the stall, he took a moment to catch his breath, then surveyed the wares. As he did so, a worrying thought occurred to him.
"Does your kingdom use common gold?" he asked, referring to the universal currency he'd learned many countries use. "I only have that and Tarilonan credit to pay with at the moment….."
Lukas nodded, "we don't really have our own, I mean we do but no one uses it except for royal things, so yeah we do use those" He said and glanced at a stall nearby, "I will be right back, don't leave" he said walking off towards the stall that had a bunch of flat rocks, some with carvings, some without.
Fiel watched him go, then cleared his throat and began examining the jewelry on display. It was all very nice, but he knew his sister well and was able to guess what she'd prefer among the sparkling items. While he waited for Lukas to return, he picked out a pair of delicate pearl earrings in the shape of teardrops. He payed for them and tucked them carefully away in his shirt pocket.
Lukas went to the stall owner and got a small flat rock on a string, he had the man engrave it with something that was similar to what was on his brother's, so that when he left, he would not be leaving his brother behind. It was something he needed to feel better about this whole thing. He paid for it and walked back to Fiel with the string around his neck.
Fiel glanced over and smiled. "I found some very beautiful earrings, thank-you for the tip. What did you get?"
Lukas showed him the rock before slipping it under his shirt, "something small, I can explain it later if you want, but I am not supposed to talk about it here." He smiled softly.
"Oh, all right." Fiel was curious, but obediently dropped the subject. "Well then, next I would like to buy some paint, and some dyed wool for weaving. Where might I find such things?"
"Follow me" Lukas said grabbing Fiel's hand and leading him farther into the market to a collection of stalls full of things for weaving.
Fiel gazed in admiration at all the beautiful wool and yarn, but one stall selling beautiful bright blue wool grabbed his attention. "This is perfect. Blue is our family color." He purchased a card of it and a moment later his keen eyes spotted someone selling artist's supplies. "And there's the paints for my younger brother. I only have room for one or two colors but that's all right. He'll make good use of them. Do you ever paint, Lukas? I seem to recall you do sketching sometimes."
Lukas looked away nervously "ah no, I don't really get the chance, I usually only sketch things for documenting purposes anyway"
"Oh, I see. Well my brother loves to paint, he's quite good too. Last year he helped add murals to the walls of our royal library." He smiled proudly. "I can't wait to show you the library. I think you'll like it, it's very peaceful and there are many wonderful books."
Lukas smiled, "I can't wait to see it, I love books"
Fiel nodded. "In the meantime, I just need a few more things. Do you think this market will have any alchemical supplies? My eldest brother likes to dabble with them and use the recipes to design new spells."
Lukas thought for a moment before leading Feil even farther into the market, till they were on the far end of it, there were a few stalls with alchemical things a bit off from the others, "here"
"Oh, interesting." Fiel perked up and examined the contents of the stalls curiously. "Some of this looks quite exotic. I can't travel with anything too volatile, but perhaps a vial of something my brother's never worked with before…." After some consideration, he chose a tiny bottle of crushed green mineral powder. "This says it has unique properties when melted. I'm sure he'll have fun with that." Pocketing it, he thought hard. "Two more things: I need a map of this kingdom, if one can be procured, for my sister. And I would very much like a local recipe of some kind for my mother's collection. She loves preparing food of all kinds."
"we can get those from the castle, I have plenty of maps I made…if that's alright, and the cook knows all the recipes of the kingdom so talking to them would be the best way to get that, unless you want to buy a map, then we can find one" Lukas said simply, the last part nervously.
"Whatever works best," Fiel replied easily. "Getting them from the castle is fine. If asking for a map is a problem, I can certainly think of something else, although I assure my sister would only want it out of curiosity."
Lukas frowns slightly, "I am offering to give you a map that I made to give to her." He said grabbing Fiel's hand leading him out of the market and back to the castle.
