"It's ok," She replied, smiling gently and shrugging, "I've just gotten used to not being able to do certain things. Not being able to drive bothered me the worst, but it doesn't bother me anymore." When she had been younger, she had hated not being able to do most things non-werewolves could, but slowly she had been coming to terms with it. She could do things most people didn't get to do after all in return, and even if it wasn't the same, it made her feel better.
He nodded a little but he didn't share her smile yet. ”If you’d like… I could show you how to drive. That way, in case of emergencies or something, you would know how to.” he offered. He didn't think buying a pack of beer for her or her pack was a smart idea. Honestly, he was having a hard time trying to imagine exactly what life was like for them without the things that, he was starting to realize, he took for granted.
Selina's face brightened at his suggestion and she tipped her head to the side in question, "You would teach me how to drive?" There was no way she was going to turn down the opportunity to learn how to do something she had wanted to do for so long, but she wanted to be sure that Frankie would actually be alright with teaching her before she agreed. The last thing she wanted to do was make him do anything he didn't want to do.
Frankie smiled back and nodded, seeing her enthusiasm at his idea. ”Yeah, I can teach you. We can say you have a learner's permit if we need to. Remember my dad's a mechanic so I know a fair bit about cars.” he said, glancing around for a second before whispering with a small smirk. ”And, uhh… I can show you how to hotwire most cars but only for serious emergencies, like if you needed to get out of someplace quick or… I don't know, something like that.” he ended with a shrug, looking a little embarrassed at admitting that he knew how to do that.
(So sorry it took me so long to respond..life is insane right now)
"I would love to learn both of those things, whenever you want to teach me that is," She replied, barely hiding her excitement behind the bright smile on her face. Who could blame her though? Frankie had just offered to teach her the one thing she had been dying to learn how to do forever.
(It's alright. Honestly, the whole world is crazy right now 😉)
Frankie chuckled a little at her expression and smiled brightly back. ”Ok. I can show you how when we go to the city.” he told her. ”But the hotwiring, I’d have to show you when we're alone since it's not always legal… There are exceptions but it's usually a little risky.” he explained.
Selina just nodded again, eager to learn even though their trip to the city was still days away. "That sounds good with me, I don't want you getting in trouble for teaching me." Getting him in trouble was the last thing she wanted, even if it meant letting the chance to learn how to drive slip away again. She could handle not driving easier than she could handle having Frankie get in trouble.
You’re worth getting into a little trouble. He shrugged. ”It’ll be fine. My dad had to learn for his job, so he could help someone who lost their keys and he showed me when I got to go to the shop with him.” he explained. ”I just probably shouldn't show you how to in the city… but I could show you here.” he smiled.
"Before we leave the park you could show me, or someday while we're here," She offered, smiling and nodding. It was a useful skill to learn, and she hoped she would never have to use it, but if she did then it would be her last resort it there was no other option to get a car started.
”Sure. That sounds like a plan to me.” he agreed. Honestly, he also hoped that she wouldn't need to use that information but considering how the government was kinda looking for her and probably her pack, it almost made sense for him to teach her so that if they needed to run they would have a better chance.
(Ok, I'm going to let you know (Even if I know it sounds like a major excuse), I'm working two jobs over these next two weeks so my replies might be more infrequent, but I promise I don't want this to die and I'll try to reply at least once a day :) )
Selina nodded, realizing they had been basically holding hands during the entire conversation. She didn't move her hand though, just glanced at their hands and laced her fingers between his gently. It was exciting to find out that she could find out how to hotwire a car, and most importantly find out how to drive in case she ever needed it.
(It's ok, no pressure. Thank you for the heads up though.)
Frankie smiled back at her before he followed her eyes to their interlocked hands and promptly blushed. It just felt so natural that he almost forgot. But when she didn't pull away, he relaxed a little and carefully curled his fingers aground hers.
"What's your favorite thing about cities?" Selina asked quietly, finding her own face flush as she glanced at their interlocked hands again. She wouldn't admit it out loud, but she liked holding his hand, it felt right; like she was supposed to be holding it.
”About cities?” Frankie said thoughtfully as he looked back at her, not moving his hand. ”Umm… Well, I like going to the movies every once in a while and amusement parks are a lot of fun…” he admitted remembering that she didn't get to see those kinds of things often. ”But I really like visiting the library. It's very peaceful.”
She listened carefully, nodding as she tried her best to remember what was what. The movie theater she remembered, but an amusement park was something she couldn't fit to an image in her head. She decided the best way to fix that was to go sometime when she could. "Libraries are nice, though sometimes I think they're too quiet," She replied, knowing what that building was. The rows of books were nice, but the silence was not nice. Especially when she was already skittish in a city, having every noise seem out of place was terrible.
He nodded slightly at her description. ”Yeah… There are times when it can feel a little eerie with how quiet it gets.” he agreed. ”But if you find a nice corner with a window and a really good book… you almost forget where you are.” he smiled a little nostalgicly at the number of times he had been in that exact situation. ”It’s almost as good as being out here. Unlike the amusement parks. They’re fun but so loud and often crowded… State fairs are pretty similar though not always as crowded.”
"I've never been to an amusement park," She admitted with a small shrug and a tiny smile, "Is the amount of people really that bad?" Selina knew it probably was, especially since she hated groups of people. But it sounded fun, and if she had the chance to go she probably would just to see if she agreed with what he said.
Frankie shrugged a little as he looked at her. ”It really depends on the size of the park and what they have running. The busiest ones usually have a water park in the summer. I think most are a little less busy in the Spring though.” he said.
Selina nodded, glancing over at him as he talked, "That makes sense. Which do you like better? Water parks or amusement parks?" She knew there was a distinction between the two just based off of their names, and since she hadn't been to either, an opinion on which was better was something she wanted.
”Oh, that's a tough one.” Frankie smiled at her as he thought over his answer. ”I mean water parks are a lot of fun especially the ones with the really tall water slides and the multi-gallon bucket that dumps on everyone below it but… I’m more of a sucker for roller coasters so, I’d probably have to say amusement parks are my favorite.”
"Both of those sound really fun," She agreed, smiling and glancing at their still laced hands with a faint blush on her cheeks, "But from how you describe them I think I would prefer an amusement park over a water park. A roller coaster is definitely something I would love to see in person if I ever have a chance."
Frankie's smile grew as he nodded a little. ”Yeah, they're a lot of fun.” he agreed. ”And I would love to take you to one if we had a chance to. I bet you would like it too, there's a ton of rides and the food’s pretty good.”
Selina nodded, trying to imagine the sight based off of what she knew of roller coasters. Her creation in her mind was probably nothing like what it was, but it was something to picture as she answered eagerly, "Going to one of those sounds amazing. How good is the food there?"
He shrugged a little. ”Honestly… unhealthy but delicious. Most of the food is either fried or just sugar.” he admitted. ”But if we do go, you have to try a funnel cake… Just not before going on a roller coaster.” Frankie smiled, really liking the idea even though he wasn't sure if they would get to.
"If I ever get the chance to go I'll definitely try it after I go on a roller coaster," She agreed, amazed by the idea of a place that sold food that was mostly just sugar, seeing as foods like that were most of the time a treat in her pack. Whenever the park ranger brought them some they tried to make it last as long as possible, no matter how good it was.
