As they walked, from behind them there seemed to be a noise growing louder and closer, something like an engine. But by the time James glanced backwards, a small group of motorcycles was nearly running them over, and he had just enough time to grab Arthur and dive off the road before one of them swerved and went off
Arthur yelped in surprise as he was yanked off to the side, and quickly squirmed out of James' grip staring at the bikers. Scrambling to his feet he was instantly on alert. "Th- thanks for the save…" he gasped, still stunned.
"You're welcome," James said, though he sounded pissed as he stalked over to the motorcycle that had crashed off to the side. There was a boy on it, no older than 19, who he grabbed by the shirt collar. "Max, what did I tell you about these damned machines?" he snapped, the boy cowering in fear while the other three bikers stood off to the side near Arthur
Arthur watched, still a bit dazed at how fast it had happened. He looked over the others, figuring they were more members od James' pack.
James was chewing Max out still, the other three staring wide-eyed. One of them, a young girl with dark skin and brown-black hair done up in a braided ponytail, finally seemed to notice Arthur. "Oh man, you new? Guess this shit's a little scary to ya, huh?" she whispered
"A little…" said Arthur… "but to be quite honest my twin brother is much more terrifying…"
"Oh, you got a brother? That's cool man," the girl said with a small grin. "Max is my dumbass brother. Name's Charlie by the way," she said as she held out a hand to shake
Arthur took it, "Arthur…" he said keeping one eye on James, "and while I do have a brother, I'm on my own.."
"Eh, being alone ain't that bad. Sure, it's a pain in the ass, but you get used to it. Though they never tell you about the part where you finally feel whole when you're with someone," Charlie said with a small smile
Arthur gave her a questioning look, before rolling his eyes. Watching James mess up the other werewolf's confidence, he took the chance to study the other more closely.
James eventually dropped Max, though he seemed less angry than before and more disappointed. The boy scampered back to the small group, hiding behind Charlie while the other two—tall, mean-looking women, chuckled
Arthur watchd silently, always keeping an eye on the powerful Alpha.
James now walked back to them, a stern look on his face. "Back to the forest. Make sure this one doesn't do anything stupid," he told the girls, pointing at Max. They all nodded, shifting and bounding away
Arthur watched, "I take most of them are unruly?" he asked quietly, fairly certain that the last thing he wanted to do was anger him.
"Most are well behaved due to the lenience I give them. But some of them, namely the younger ones, have…restraint issues," James answered, an air of command still lingering around him
Arthur took a step back in instinctive deference. "Seems reasonable.." he said quietly.
"But, no matter. Would you like to go into town?" James asked, brushing himself off before turning to Arthur with a small, faint smile
"I guess" said Arthur with a shrug, meeting his smile with a look of slight confusion.
"If you're lucky, I might just treat you to a pastry someplace nice. I've been told there's a lovely brick and mortar café in town," James hummed, grinning a bit now
Arthur watched him in complete confusion, blushing slightly. "Oookay…" he said awkwardly, not sure how he was supposed to react to this.
"Come on, then," James hummed, turning to begin walking towards town. He seemed like an oddity, that was for sure. One moment he was a gentleman, the next he was angry and intimidating
Arthur fell into step behind him, marveling at how quickly this guy could turn in attitude. This guy was intimidating, but that was partly because of the ingrained sense of deference to an Alpha, especially with his status as a rogue.
James was humming faintly now, arms folded behind his back again like before. "Now, what do you prefer? They should have things like donuts, or cookies," he asked
"Scones actually" said Arthur softly… making sure to keep pace.
