Joy folded her knees close to her chest, reaching out to the report beside her and handed it to Bryce.
She immediately hugged herself close, resting her head on her knees. She chewed on her bottom lip, waiting for Bryce’s response.

She immediately hugged herself close, resting her head on her knees. She chewed on her bottom lip, waiting for Bryce’s response.
Bryce furrowed his eyebrows at her as he took the file. She didn’t want to tell him herself? Why…?
He opened it, his eyes skimming over the words. He caught the gist of it from the words his eyes drifted over.
“You’re pregnant… Oh— Oh my gosh… Joy…” he breathed, tearing his eyes away from the papers to look at his girlfriend wide-eyed. “That’s— Wow. I can’t believe it…”
Joy finally looked at Bryce, worry plastered on her features, her eyes red with unshed tears.
“I—I’m sorry,” she stammered, hugging herself closer. “I know you wanted to have a peaceful college life, and I know you didn’t want kids until marriage and—and I should have been more careful. I’m sorry, Bryce…”
“Joy… Babe, no, I’m not upset. This is okay. It’s not your fault, okay? It’s definitely not your fault,” Bryce said softly, setting the file down and moving closer to Joy. He took her hands in his own and kissed the backs of them. “I love you. And we can get through this together. If you want to keep this baby, we’ll keep it. Okay?”
Joy leaned against him, sniffling quietly.
“I want to,” she forced out through her clogged throat. “Keep it. I want to keep the baby. We can, right?”
“Of course, Joy. Of course we can. I would never not let you keep your baby. I’m actually glad you want to keep it,” Bryce murmured, wrapping his arms around her and kissing her forehead. “How far along are you?”
Your baby.
Joy squeezed her eyes shut. Of course she understood the hidden meaning behind his words. He probably didn’t think it was his.
“One month,” she murmured. Right after they reconciled. Joy was sure the baby was Bryce’s. After all, it had been some time since she’d cheated on him. It couldn’t have been the other guy’s.
Bryce sighed audibly, his arms tightening around her. That wasn’t far enough along to have been the other guy’s… It was his baby…
“Our baby… Oh my gosh… It’s our baby,” he breathed, burying his face in her neck.
Joy leaned into him, her lips finally turning into a smile. He was happy. Her Bryce was happy.
“We’re going to be parents,” she murmured, her eyes letting go of the tears they’d caged up. “Bryce, we’re going to be parents.”
Beyce laughed lightly, pulling back to press a long, loving kiss to her lips. He was ecstatic; the adrenaline was rushing through his veins. He was going to be a father!
“Parents… I can’t believe it. Babe, I’m going to be a father,” he said, looking into her gorgeous green eyes. “You’re going to be a mother… Gosh, you’ll be the best mother!”
Joy laughed, her eyes twinkling as she looked into his own. He wasn’t faking it. He was truly happy. He was really looking forward to it!
“You’re going to be the best father ever,” she whispered, smiling tearfully. He’d accepted her yet again. “This child’s so lucky to have a father as wonderful as you are. We’re both so lucky to have you…”
Bryce grinned and kissed her gently. And then again. And again. And one last time before he simply grinned at her.
“You’re amazing,” he said softly.
Joy wiped her tears away, sniffling again before pulling him by his shirt, hiding her face in the crook of his neck.
“Thank you…” she cried shakily. “I love you so much…”
“I love you, too. Gosh, I love you,” Bryce murmured, tugging her tighter against him. “You’re so beautiful… So, so amazing…”
Joy didn’t believe Bryce’s words, but they only made her cry harder. She clutched his shirt tighter between her fists, sobbing.
“It—it’s just the—the hormones, okay?” She hiccuped, clinging to him tightly.
Bryce hummed softly and kissed her cheek. “It’s okay, darling. You can cry all you want. It’s not big deal.”
“What if—what if I’m not a good mother?” Joy stammered, already thinking about the impact of her as a mother. “What if our child finds me obnoxious and annoying?”
“Joy, honey…” Bryce murmured, pulling back to look her in the eyes. “You are going to be an amazing mom, okay? You are so kind and caring and compassionate, and you already take care of both of us. You’ll do spectacularly.”
(I’m crying)
(I’m crying)
(Me, too… 😭)
Joy sniffled.
“I hope…” her voice cracked, but his words made her warm. “You don’t even need to worry. You’ll be the best dad ever.”
“Only because I’ll have an amazing woman by my side the whole time,” Bryce said softly, kissing her forehead.
Joy wrapped her arms around him, overwhelmed by everything.
“Can we… I want to go home…”
“I’ll ask the doctors if you can come home, then,” Bryce said softly, kissing her cheek. “But I’ve gotra go find them first, which means you need to let me go, lovely.”
Joy noticed the way her fingers had gripped his shirt tightly to the point where her hands turned white. She immediately let go of the extremely wrinkled shirt.
“So—sorry…” she stammered, patting the spots on the shirt in a poor attempt to smooth the wrinkles. “You can go.”
