Avalin stood up as well, "Then let's get going." She said, rocking on her feet with a happy glint in her eyes.
He nodded and took her hand In his "and I thought you didn't like surprises?" he asked as he led her out of the cafe and down a couple streets
"I don't, but getting surprised at where we're going next is different." She walked alongside him, a small bounce in her step, "Are we going to go visit any of your and Thor's friends?"
He nodded "Strange should be getting back from a mission by tomorrow." He turned down a street and came upon a large marble building "close you eyes."
She followed his instructions somewhat hesitantly, sticking her arms out in front of herself so she wouldn't run into anything.
He laughed lightly "I won't let you run into anything love." He pulled her gently Into him and guided her into the building "stairs," he muttered next to her ear, supporting her with an arm around her waist
She nodded and smiled, taking a small step up. "Where are we going?" She asked, leaning into him as she took another step up the stairs.
He stopped and glanced around "you'll find out soon love," glancing up the stairs he sighed and turned to her "this'll be much easier." He carefully scooped her up In his arms and carried her the rest of the way up, cradling her head to his chest so she wouldn't hit her head on the wall " keep your eyes closed love, no one likes a peeker"
A small squeak came from her when he picked her up, but she didn't mind. "I won't peek, even I have standards when it comes to surprises." She said, the feeling of being carried with a blindfold on a little disorienting.
He smiled and glanced down at her "I promise, you'll like this one." He said against her temple, lips brushing her skin as he spoke. He set her down in front of a door "you can open your eyes now," he opened the door to the observatory
She opened her eyes slowly and leaned against him, absolutely stunned by the observatory, "Wow.." She said, amazed. She smiled brightly and turned to him, "This place is amazing."
He gently nudged her forwards "go ahead, no one's been up here for years." He grinned and walked in, flicking his hand so the lights turned on and the fire started "my favorite place to come here, of course besides Lilian's"
She followed him in excitedly, immediately starting to look around, "Why don't people come here?"
He shrugged, coming to stand in the middle of the room "internet, no need for this anymore, people don't find places like these of any use anymore." He said with a sad smile
"That's not right," She shook her head and looked around, walking over to the fire, "What is this place used for?" She touched a piece of equipment and looked over at him curiously.
He cocked his head to the side "that one's used for calculating how far the stars are from each other. Bring it over." he went over to a shelf and grabbed a few maps, laying them out on the table
She picked up the equipment and set it on the table, smiling happily. "Is it easy to graph where stars are?" She asked, happy to be learning something new.
He tilted his head from side to side in contemplation "relatively easy," He set a small blank map in front of her "we'll start simple," he flicked his hand, a gold sextant, encrusted with emeralds appeared. He glanced up at her "Ready?
"Of course," She nodded and watched him carefully, already curious about what he was doing. She pointed to the new item that he made appear, "What's that?"
"A sextant, it's used to measure the distance between the stars." he waved a hand over the papers, making appear the stars and lines that made up the galaxy with a light green shimmer, much different from the magic he had used a couple of nights before
She nodded again, tracing the edge of the map with a small smile, "See, this type of magic is nice, the simple magic."
"simple is not a word I would use to describe this, but alright." He smiled softly, coming up behind her and guiding her hands to the right position on the sextant. "you put the longer point on one star and then walk it to the other star you want to calculate." he instructed gently
"Like this?" She asked, putting the longer point onto a small star and walking it slowly towards another slightly larger star. She looked up at him with a small smile, hoping she was doing it right.
He nodded with a proud grin "mhm, yep. Exactly like that, love."He flicked his hand again, changing the image on the map. A more complex map appeared, more stars mixed in with bigger dots. "try this one."
She looked at the map and placed the end of the sextant on one larger star, walking it to one of the smallest on the map, "This is easy," She said with a smile, "What's next?"
